It blows my mind how you are seemingly scribbling mindlessly all over the paper yet this amazing piece is the product at the end. The brush strokes and all the colors you chose just grabbed me and left mesmerized.
I gotta tell you, Sophie, sometimes I wonder how you're gonna bring it back to something I can see and understand. And this is an example of that. I just love how this turned out!! Really CUTE!
Your videos and paintings make me want to try painting again (after many failed attempts). Thank you so much for making these lovely videos and sharing your thoughts and process 💛
Wow - this was such joyful to watch. It was wonderful to see how artists keep layering and layering and eventually come up with something beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful! It’s a miracle every time. The blobs morph, colors change and images appear. I don’t understand why it happens, but it does, right.before.my.eyes. Always an honor to watch art happen. Thanks! PS: Australia Post has been good about sending updates. Your package has already arrived in the US. I suspect that could be Hawaii. This is much faster than I expected. I’m a happy camper. 👍🏼
@@SophieMcPike Our post offices did a great job! I received the calendars two days ago. They are spectacular! I💕them. Thank you! Thank you! Happy 2023!
Loved watching this process on a larger scale, Sophie 😍 You read my mind... looking forward to 2023 I want to play more, create more and work larger. Thanks for sharing! 💛
I love this piece from you sophie! I love the sparkling giant snowball metaphor- making new connections with new mediums is what it’s all about for me :-) happy new year!
I'm going to have to scrub that paint that dripped on to the wall before our next house inspection though hahaha! Next time i'll be putting some paper on the wall for protection hahaha! Thank you x
Hello Sophie, I'm so glad I found your channel! My current mantra and focus right now is to 'follow the fun,' both for art but also for all other aspects of my life. And you and your channel enrich my vocabulary and provide promising mental pathways for me to explore. So thank you for that! In return, I'd like to recommend a video I recently watched that I found super inspirational, but in a very practical way. As in, it actually got me to pick up some art supplies and start playing around with them right after watching it. Alphonso Dunn made an understated but actually amazing video: 'Why don't more students practice this way of drawing?' The text in his thumbnail is more informative: 'Reduces Fear, Pressure, Anxiety.' Alphonso provides us viewers with an amazingly simple and effective method of approaching art as fun and playful. It's a very short video, so I highly recommend checking it out. Also also: I loved every stage of your painting. All of them were gorgeous in their own ways. I'm more partial to the less polished iterations myself, but all of them are awesome and inspiring. Especially when I could watch them flow from each other while it happened. I love the way you use colour and brush marks, and your approach of exploring your way towards one of many possible outcomes. Which gives me an idea: have you ever tried starting several copies of the same painting at the same time, but making different choices on different canvases? I think it would be super fun and fascinating to see where these choices take you, how they differ from each other, how they lead to new logical steps or new choices, how they can cross-pollinate each other, and how far you travel along each option before deciding that version is done? Just a thought, a pebble in the pond to maybe make some interesting ripples, do with it what you will. ☘️
It's such a magical looking landscape 😍 Beautiful painting as always... Also that was so relaxing to watch 😌 Thank you for showing your process. Happy, Healthy and Colorful New Year! 💗
I got SOOOOO much life and joy watching this video. Your account was literally a God send xxx Did you plan your colors in advanced in terms of the values? Would love to know your process in how you render photographs into stylised colours 🤩🤩
THANK YOU ❤ that's so nice!! I work veryyyy intuitively. Sometimes I have a bit of a colour palette in mind, but that can change at the blink of an eye. Its all play and trial and error :)
Thank you!!!!! I did it over a couple of days just before Christmas, so I didn't have time to do it in one sitting - as I usually would. I don't know how long it took to be honest! 4ish hours is a very VERY vague guess
I’m always amazed how you put down blob after blob of paint and it slowly becomes such a detailed but yet uncontrolled piece of art.
Thank you!! I like thinking of it like focusing a camera - it starts blurry and blobby, then it tightens up slowly :)

❤❤❤❤❤ thank you so much! It's totally one of those 'just trust the process' things! haha
