That’s actually a very smart way to build a house. Not going to lie, before I started really liking Chinese culture I was into tiny houses and was considering building multiple tiny houses around a central courtyard before I knew it was a thing
I really love to find out and know the history and living style of every country. China was already built different from the ancient time. Their tradition attracts everyone ❤❤❤
If I ever build a home I’d make it like this with very personal outdoor space but I’d like to add height in the main building like the archery towers or drum towers u find in Beijing and xian
Kinda sad that these kinds of homes aren't built anymore , i think the only 2 countries that still build courtyard houses are Tajikistan and Uzbekistan .
I forgot where I saw it, but someone explained this as follows: the downward slope refers to the earth and the upward curve refers to the heavens, creating balance and harmony between 天地 for the family under the roof

In traditional southern American architecture the placement of courtyards also was vital for airflow cooling the home pre-air conditioning era.

Why roofs of Chinese traditional houses are bend... curved? This disturbs sliding off snow from the roof.
