Norwegian rap duo Karpe is Chirag Rashmikant Patel and Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid. In 2022 they released Omar Sheriff, a music project packed full of tributes and nods to their background (Chirag being of Indian and Magdi being of Egyptian origin). They mix Norwegian with Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati and English in a way no one has done before them - call it 'diaspora pop'. Karpe has risen to become the biggest band in Norway, and has now teamed up for a European tour with The Quick Style, the legendary global dance crew that went viral in 2022 with their wedding show video ( • FAMOUS WEDDING SHOW (F... )
"...with more than two decades as one of Norway’s most beloved acts, the message is clear: This is the most beautiful show in the world." - Rolling Stone Australia

Lyrics:
Brown feet in the baraf
Now we drink wine out of a decanter
Peer pressure
Untranslateable
Tarantula, tarantula
Brown feet in the baraf
More Champagne, more Chablis
With Gablu, Bablu and Bunty
Brown feet in the baraf
Now we drink wine out of a decanter
Drank sharab in Geiranger in 02 on tour
I repent, God
Brown feet in the baraf
Brown feet in the baraf
Fairuz
On top of the world
Can you tell my love what I have carried
Fairuz
On top of the world
Can you tell my love what I have learned
We have learned
We have learned
To ride dunya like a waterslide
We have learned
We have learned
We have learned
Brown feet in the baraf, to a black Benz
I know it's just me
I know it's just me
No parasol or Cartier lens can shade my shine
When they talk behind backs, I just wear it like clothes
It stays on the outside
Inshallah
Watch me make snow angels, that's baraf
I'm a flower of decibels straight from the asphalt
Mussels and wine with La mif
Babbouche for Baba Hafid
Half-and-half like Abdelmaguid
Garçon sin cost de la vie
And our moms are white
Like baraf
My mom is 47, so I call her Kalash
I want to hand out Gucci to the neighborhood kids
So they don't need to sell any marijuana
The hell do I know…
Fairuz
On top of the world
Can you tell my love what I have learned
Fairuz
On top of the world
Can you tell my love what I have learned
We have learned
We have learned
Ride the dunya like a waterslide
We have learned
We have learned
We have learned
Ride the dunya like a waterslide
We have learned
Why do you have to eat malban?
Why do you add five spoons?
Why do you leave the apartment so rarely?
Why do you think all of this is happening?
Why did you say that you feel better?
Why don't you just say that it hurts?
Why don't you go to the doctor more?
Why do you have to be so stupid?
Why do you go and get diabetes?
Why do you go and get a kidney failure?
Why don't you go to the gym?
Why do you think you need insulin?
Why do you go get high blood pressure?
Why don't you go walking with a little pulse?
Why don't you go for a walk in the woods?
Why do you go and get another tumor?
Why do you go and get heart palpitations?
Why do you go and get bone marrow cancer?
Why don't you go out in the winter?
Why don't you go and get some exercise?
Why dont you…?

Coke studio brought me to these gems of artists! I have been listening to your songs for the last 4 days. I wish the whole world can witness your craft and magic. This is not just a performance but a masterpiece. Sheer beauty. Pure heart. I wish I can see you live someday ❤
Sett denne over 20 ganger. Treffer like dypt hver gang. For en låt, for en kveld👏🏽❤️

Can't believe I did not know about Karpe until the Coke Studio's drop. I have a whole world to discover and I'm blown away with every song! We need a USA tour!!!
I am here after Coke studio to PIYA CALLING; the lyrical content is absolutely fantastic, takes storytelling to a whole new level, and gets the audience into the shoes of the narrator. mind-blowing musicians. I have to also add that the African string instrument on one of the other tracks really took that song to a whole different level of experience for me, great work.
Coke Studio Pakistan 🇵🇰 introduced me to Karpe. It’s such an amazing feeling to be here.
I cried after hearing my language Gujarati in the new song Piya Piya Calling from Coke studio Pakistan as we hardly get representation in Music. I had to find out who this man was and low and behold it was Chirag Patel. I can't believe that another Gujarati is one of the biggest superstars of Norway. Would love see to Chirag include more Gujarati lyrics in songs. I'm now a huge fan of y'all, sending so much love to Chirag and Magdi. We love you both so much❤❤
thank you!!!
Love from india ❤❤❤ @@karpe
OMG, it feels like life running through lost identities from one pole to another, I am so thankful to CS, that I've found a new musical sensibility, with all of my heart 🙏🙏🙏
Wow Wow Wow - never heard of Karpe till I saw them on Coke Studio - there is a whole world of amazing music I am missing. Norway and Karpe - absolutely brilliant.
Coke studio brought me here. I am pakistani australian, migrated 10 years ago. My god this made me cry. What a talent, thanks coke studio Pakistan
Karpe, music to cry to. I’m ‘native’ Norwegian and I gush😂
As a British born 2nd generation immigrant, I have to say this was so relatable bought back my childhood I cried listening to the whole song what a masterpiece I'm so so glad I found this group I might not understand Norwegian but my heart understands the music ❤
Happy for you. And hopefully the subtitles helped a little!
I cry each time I hear (I’m from Uzbekistan originally)😊- soothing and relatable. It helps me heal. And nice to see emotional people at this concert video - I think this song can bring all people together regardless our origin.
😅😅😢
❤
Who gave the little racist and mulat Faro the right to appropriate Afro American culture? Egyptians hate Blacks.
Takk. Takk for at dere lar oss få innsyn.
Listening to this song, reminds me of the palestinian kids being bombed and losing their parents by the terorist of the world.😢😢
coming here from COKESTUDIO PAKISTAN!!!!! this is amazing!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤♥
As someone who came to Australia at the age of 20 and after 19 years of living here and having my own family it’s still a constant inner fight to feel at home.
Home is where the heart is but home is also where your roots are and no matter how hard we try, one day in this foreign land those roots will disappear eventually, so we try to hang on to it for as long as we can. 😢
@karpe this song has touched home. Thank you being such amazing storytellers and for being a voice of immigrants all over the world. ❤
I see I'm not the first one who came here after listening to 'Piya Piya Calling'! Good to know.
This is incredible! You guys do magic! So hauntingly beautiful!
Also this makes me want to give a hug to all my relatives who immigrated to other countries in search of a better life.
As a Gujarati I feel very proud of Chirag as having a big stardom in a foreign country, people crying for songs he writes and sings god bless.
I never heard, seen something like this moment. I’ve discovered Karpe just by chance but I’m addicted already. I’m from Romania and I understand well the struggle to be immigrant in foreign country. Congrats Karpe for your art. This is unbelievable beautiful!!! Love from 🇷🇴
Discovered karpe through coke studio and MANNNNN I'M GETTING GOOSEBUMPS THIS IS MAGIC!!!
Also suggest their SAS PLUS album.
Never felt my heart sinking and exploding....All at once! Went through thousand emotions...Angelic voices and great message....Ride the world like a waterslide! think I will have to learn Norwegian now.
love! so right!sinking and exploding
wow its like the whole crowd is crying, this is very different from any other band or concerts I have ever seen and I can see this has touched peoples hearts very deeply. can someone tell me more about this band? I noticed they use many different languages and its very unique.
We are one.. 🙌 Search up Karpe❤️
that's how they are, our parents
who just worked and kept quiet
without anyone having invited them to Dagsnytt 18
to talk about freedom of speech
or anything else
for those who are preparing to die in a foreign country
the gooey cake, or the cup of overly sweet tea
serves as the cheapest and fastest ticket home
the grief when a parent is about to disappear
is of course not reserved for us migrant children
but it gets an additional layer for us
maybe because we lose our most important connection
to a part of the world that they brought with them
we, their children
are believers and non-believers
filled with shame and shameless
rooted and rootless
we were kids when we filled out forms for our parents
called customer support on their behalf
and wrote sympathy cards intended for their norwegian friends
we were kids when the rest of Norway were laughing at skits
where the only joke was that people were talking like our parents
one day they will leave us here
between the places they left behind and the places they tried to become a part of
when it's our turn, we will look back to reassure ourselves, and them
that we managed to get one step closer
Karpe Diem's songs are some of the most well-written and thought-provoking in all of hip hop. Their lyrics are full of social and political commentary, and they often explore difficult and taboo subjects. Their music is also incredibly catchy and well-produced, making them one of the most popular rap groups in Norway.
Why is this music so effing emotional, and why am I crying?
Thanks Coke Studio for introducing us to this masterpiece.
I don't know but I'm crying too
Det er helt vilt. Håper hele konserten blir mulig å kjøpe i videoformat!
Elsker dig Chirag. Også dig Magdi. I er nogle kæmpe stjerner

This performance by @KARPE was nothing short of breathtaking. It's incredible how music can transcend boundaries and bring us together, and this beautiful piece of art is a testament to that. It moved me to tears and gave me an opportunity to experience something truly extraordinary. I sincerely hope that we'll have the chance to host @KARPE in Pakistan for one of their biggest shows in the near future.... Love & Respect from Pakistan and Thank you Coke Studio Pakistan💗💗
This song is just on loop, man. That lady is awesome-her voice just holds you tight, its so sureal. I love that, and the way you guys are honoring the immigrant spirit is phenomenal. Thanks, Coke Studio! I know them because of you.
thank you so much
Her name is Emilie Nicolas. She’s also an amazing artist :)
Your song resonates deeply with me. Though I only grasp the word 'Baraf' from its lyrics, the emotions it carries transcend language. Whether through my laptop or phone, each time I listen, I feel transported to a concert, experiencing the ache of being an immigrant in a foreign land.
It moves me to tears every time, prompting my wife to wonder why I'm so moved by the same song on repeat.
Chirag bhai, witnessing your mother's tears and your father's proud yet emotional stance stirs profound emotions within me.
This song beautifully pays homage and serves as a voice for immigrants worldwide.
This is art on another level. Thank you. I cannot go trough the first 2 minutes of this video, without crying my soul out. Thank you for this emotion
Can't speak a lick of Norwegian but so glad CS Pakistan brought me to Karpe ✌🏾

But, the Spirit of the Music Moves Me❣❣❣
Livealbum og konsert-dvd please!!!!
Blir ikke bedre enn dette. Griner som faen. Sterk låt og sterkere live❤️
Tusen takk for alt dere gjør.
I've been listening to CS-15 Piya Piya Calling... Loved Karpe's work there and now it has brought me here... Wow, this is amazing... The energy you create is unmatched...Lots of love from Pakistan...💚
Which one is carpe
Is the one who sings arabic
Plz someone answer
I love this arab style
Hats off to the videographer 🙇🏻🙇🏻🫡
As an immigrant (from South Asia) and living in Canada for 22 years, I just felt this song. At times, it felt personal. Only if people knew the struggles that immigrants go through.
This is how you unite the music and people around the world. I wish I knew Norwegian (so that I could sing along) but this is truly an amazing story and music.
Keep up the good work, you are super talented!
Any gujarati here
Thank you Coke studio for introducing this music to us.
