Hi Art Friends! We asked if you wanted to see this video a few days ago and a bunch of you said you'd be interested, so here's an updated 2017 edition of our pencil case tour :D

A few tips and tricks from a fellow pencil enthusiast, feel free to add to the list:
*1.* What I know about blending stumps and tortillons:
*Blending/paper stumps* are made of compressed paper and have two pointed ends. They're best used for large areas, and when they get dirty you can file them a little with sandpaper or a nail filer-that'll clean them a little.
*Tortillons* are made of tightly rolled up paper, thinner, and have only one pointed end that can't be cleaned. They're meant to be used at an angle because too much pressure can make the tip collapse. The paper is stiffer than the blending stumps' and they're mostly used for small areas, for details. You can get the tip out if it gets pushed in by pinching it and pulling it out, or pushing a toothpick/paperclip through the flat, not pointed end, and you can make your own, just google "Blending stump/Tortillon DIY"-the "/" is because sometimes people use the terms interchangeably.
*2.* You shouldn't (but you totally can if you prefer it that way-I too, preferred using my fingers when I first started drawing; now I prefer shading rather than blending, because it looks cleaner imo and it's much easier to erase) use your fingers to blend because, if nothing else, the oils from your fingers that get into the paper absorb the graphite and make it very difficult to erase any mistakes afterwards. :(
*3.* If you want a perfectly black area, without any white dots, you should blend the pencil so that the graphite gets in all the little crevices the paper has.
*4.* If there's a large area you want to blend, you can wrap your finger in tissue paper and do it like that.
*5.* Also, there's this really cool trick I've learned from Honeybee (I'm subscribed to her, you can check a video of hers to see this technique in action, she actually has a video dedicated to demonstrating this technique ^^), where you scribble on a scrap piece of paper, and then use your blending tool of choice (blending stump, tortillon, Q-tip, tissue paper-she uses a makeup/ paint brush) - and pick some graphite up and then lightly swipe it where you want your shadows to be. That'll give you a very soft, well-blended shadow. :)
*6.* Another tip is to have different blending tools (like blending stumps for example) for each category of values: light, medium, and dark. This way, you won't need to buy new ones that often, and you'll never ruin a drawing by having the blending tool make your shadows darker and darker, as it gets more and more dirty.
Ahh, this is all I can think of, off the top of my head.
And I have a few questions myself. XD. Steph said in a video how, but I forgot: how do you take pictures of your pencil drawings without the graphite shining?
And another question: how do you stop the graphite from leaving an imprint on the other side of the page when you're drawing in a sketchbook? Do you always place a paper underneath the page you're currently drawing on?
And how do you keep the graphite from smudging? DrawingWiffWaffles said she's noticed that if you apply a little water at the end, over your pencil drawing, it won't smudge, but of course, the paper will buckle to some degree. The logic behind this is how you can't erase the pencil lines of the sketch after you've applied watercolours.

Fixative might help to lock in a sketch so it wont smudge the other side of the page but its pretty expensive. I think the water works better for simple sketches and such, so best to invest in thicker paper sketchbooks. I still dunno how to stop them from shining beyond smudging them but sometimes I sandwich them with paper to do the smudging thing (helps to soften the lines a bit as well) and it shines less then

For the other Americans out there, in America Pilot V-Pens are called Pilot Varsities and Uniball Eye pens are called Uniball Visions. They're the same great products, but are packaged differently and have slightly different names. Hope this helps!

I have an idea for an art challenge: you pick each other any 3 art supplies (it can be ink, markers, pencils etc. Anything you have) and you have to make some art with it. You get a pencil and rubber in addition to the art supplies. I think it would be best to pick something out of the other ones comfort zone, like Adam with inks/brush pens, and Steph with pencils or something. :)

Steph and Adam, you are amazing. You are so inspiring to me, and I know a lot more people are inspired by you as well. When I discovered your channel, I may have been a bit skeptical but after a few more videos, I knew I had hit the jackpot. Usually I'm totally hyped to buy the pencils and markers you guys use, but recently I'm already having the ones you show, what's amazing.
as a German I'm happy you're using a lot of German brands like Staedler and Stabilo so it's easy for me to get my hands on these :)
I'm in love with my rotring pens. it's originally a German brand as well and my grandfather had a lot of these because they are made for technical drawing and these things.

I just picked up a set of wooden drawing pencils for my birthday thanks to you guys! :D Watching Adam draw made me want to try them out.
I love that camera! I have the blue version of it and I love it more than any of my other cameras. The tiny pictures are so cute! It's a bit of a pain in the butt though because you need to be at least an arms length away from something when you take a picture or else it turns out blurry. I wasted a lot of film on that and lighting before I thought to just measure distance with my arm, lol.
You guys have the best settings for a lot of your videos! (I really like the woodsy/nature settings!)

I know you probably won't have time to respond to this message but I was just going to say that I love your channel and that you have inspired me to make an art channel of my own.You guys really shown me the meaning of an art channel not to just be like hey look at my art I'm so great but to inspire people to draw no matter the level of talent.So people can enjoy art. I got a new pencil case yesterday, with new supplies and everything and they were based around those from you two! Ah man I could've used this video yesterday, you two are such great inspirations for me! Ahh, no problem, I'm still happy this came out, this is so helpful to get ideas! All I have is 20 pencils, 3 2H's and 3 are 4B, and pastel promarkers xD

I have the exact same mechanical pencil since last June and it really is very good! I barely used normal pencils for drawing since I've got it. I'm happy that you think it's a good mechanical pencil too, Adam!
I have the Derwent pencil extender as well but it's a bit rough on the fingers after a while. Brilliant invention though.
the pen you need to erase the v-pen ink are the ones you talked about in your 'drawing with erasable pens' video. you said that you used them in grade school, but they never worked. the trick is that the white end erases erasable ink (like in some fountain pens) and the blue end is to write on top of the part that you erased (because the fountain pen will not write on top of anything that has been "colored" with the white end).
I hope that makes sense :)

I have a bic plastic mechanical pencil name spencil that I've had for a really long time and I love it!

I have the exact same mechanical pencil as Adam, just that it's 0.35 and I use 2B leads, so I still struggle with breaking the lead from putting a little too much pressure on it. XD
Those mechanical erasers and coloured pencils that you can erase (I've heard there's a company that makes even coloured leads that you can erase, for mechanical pencils) are on my wish list for so long, but the art supplies stores around me are _so_ small, I'll have to order them online.
