I used to work at Park Grant of Sioux Falls, SD. We were a Wholesale/ Foodservice supplier, and we carried a lot of 100# bags of sugar. This time of year we had several big beekeepers that bought many bags. You got a GREAT buy on those 4#.
They're 4 lb bags and there definitely 20 of them that I can see plainly. Depending on whether they're stacked on other things or more sugar bags there could be 30 or even 40 bags. So maybe max 160 lb or 70 kg.
This food supply is definitely gonna help your bees survive. But won't it affect the quality of your honey? After all summer is close and they should be able to harvest enough pollen!
Thanks for the relaxing simple beesness video. Nice to just watch and listen to something simple and entertaining for a while. I like all your videos. I can't wait to see what you can teach us in the future.
Every one of your videos makes me feel like less of man Can mine, bee keep, put shrimp in a tiny box The only thing ive done with my life is sit in a chair and not do homework
Proto thats because your parents decided to live in the city urban area and not on a ranch.... dw when youre older you can start becoming more outdoorsy, itll be hard learning all this stuff by yourself tho
I find these bee videos very fascinating. My family tried to get into bee keeping but we never got that far. I did learn a lot about bees through your videos, swarming etc.. I'd like to try again someday.
Pretty astonished at the performance of your microphone. Great video. I was full pucker the entire time you had the hive open. Pretty amazing just how calm they are.
Hey Cody, quick question. What are all of the pros and cons of beekeeping, and is it expensive to start up? Seeing your series has made me interested in the craft and Im curious about the entire startup process.
susceptible to bee stings, and you must be prepared to accept a loss if the entire process doesn't work, or if varroa mites infest your hive. It's a lot of work too
Pro: help bees, environment, get honey. con: expensive, and good amount of labor required. Expect to break even or under in costs. there is a bee keeping group on reddit. I recommend going there to get started.
As from our experience, we had a really good start, as a person we knew gave us 2 hives for free, with bees in them. Of course the equipement cost a nice bit, but after around 3-4 years of beekeeping, I think I can safely say that we've made some nice profit. Of course hives can die, swarm out, the year might be bad, etc.
Logan Harner is relatively expensive to start up. I'm getting a nuc on the 20th. I really do recommend trying to find your local club and joining, they will be able to tell you more about your local difficulties in starting a Hive. they will probably be a bunch of old geezers but they will love to teach you.
The amount of love for nature that speaks from these videos is just amazing. Respect ! My son runs around the table screaming when he sees a bee... he's not there just yet..
Bees are really cute. The way you opened that hive and they were like "yup it's that guy again with his finger poking at us" and they ignored you. Beekeeping is amazing :D
We use 44 gallon drums with the top and bottom cut out as seedling protectors to plant trees in. We sometimes need mesh on top also to stop the cow's reaching in to get the tall grass inside them. After a few years the trees get large enough to not need them and you can remove them and plant some more trees in them somewhere else.
They're definitely not organic ingredients. If he suppluments this season with the "chemicals," the bees can feed off of natural organic flowers during healthier seasons. Im asking if this process taints the bees forever?
I can't be too sure about the vitamins or chemicals, but that sugar does not look organic at all. The reason why the mixture smelled like fruit loops cerial is because it contained lemongrass essential oil. Lemongrass is similar to citronella by acting as a natural and organic bug repentant, but it smells better. Could he have not gotten honey from another farm to replace the sugar and supplument his bees naturally?
Ian Porret I think it depends on what you define as 'organic'. If organic is something produced by a living organism then the sugar and honey are always organic. If organic is something that was made the way it is made in nature, then the honey is not.
Bee keepers are in a losing war right now, they can be organic and have a high risk of losing their bees or use artificial supplements and improve the hives chances of survival
@Cody'sLab was wondering if you could explain this or do an experiment over time? I watched a documentary where somewhere in the middle east the bee's collect pollen from a poisonous plant which then produces a honey which is high in alcohol content. I found this really interesting and was wondering if this could be recreated by simply changing the bee's diet maybe sugar liquefied in some type of alcohol?

+MrBibky 1. You stated US, not America, so there's no confusion there. 2. The act of generalising your country to the entirety of an in-autonomous continent, *is* calling it a country. European countries have a variety of prices, which are completely self governing.
Are you a flat earth-er? Where do you get those ideas from? Saying that you live in a continent and saying that prices from a continent are more expensive than a certain country (even a country on the same continent) *doesn't make a continent a country*. You could say that the price for firewood is cheaper in Hungary than the rest of Europe (not sure if that's true, that's just an example). You completely ignored my comment. And by the way, what I said still holds true. Take France with 1.22 USD / kg of sugar, Italy with 0.91 USD / kg, Germany with 0.76 USD / kg and Hungary with 1 USD / kg. For the same price or cheaper to get more, that's something you don't really find in Europe. Although I realized after a while it was a sale and that's why Cody got it cheaper. Try getting a deal like this anywhere in Europe. Ain't going to happen. If you reply with another ignorant comment, I won't reply anymore. So, I wish you a nice life.

Ben Lauderdale i go to the store and buy like 12-20kgs of sugar every 6 months for making homemade juice, and they dont look at me weird

Year twelve thousand and seventeen, the bee population is doing fine after the humans have went extinct...
.... The bee has evolved global hivemind network and having constant warfare with the ants over the southern nectar region.

bees generally don't want to sting you, they only do it if they feel that their life or home is in danger
