The day before Charlie's Angels premiered on ABC, and I loved these White Sox uniforms, they're the best uniforms in all of pro sports to me. The collar design was just so unique, and I liked how the blue pants bought out the white jersey so well.
Listening to this crowd reminds me of (as a young Twins fan) listening to Twins /Indians games at Municipal Stadium in the mid 80s where you could literally hear individual hot dog vendors on your radio (it was Oscar Mayer I believe! lol)
When the Twins Lyman Bostock became a free agent a few years later, he signed a lucrative contract with the Angels. The very first month with his new team, he became disenchanted with his performance on the field, and announced he was giving his first month's salary back to the organization, because he stated he didn't deserve it. The Angels' management declined the offer. So Mr. Bostock decided to give it to charity instead. That's exactly what he did! Tells you something about this special human being. Sadly, this young man would lose his life in a shooting that occurred later that same year. Tragically, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time (not the intended target). The alleged perpetrator served all of seven months in a psychiatric hospital and was then set free! Is this justice???
That shooting was in my hometown Gary. It was very sad. Bostock was very talented and a great human being. Too many shootings happened in Gary, Indiana. R.I.P. to them all. R.I.P. Gary.
George Anthony Lyman Bostock was a real genuine man. From what I read the shooter never committed any crimes after his release and would decline interviews if there’s a silver lining at least ✨
@Jonny Danger I lived in Gary, and it was the murder capital of the world per capita population. Ii know exactly where he was shot. The guy that murdered Lyman was angered that his estranged wife was in the car with another girlfriend. If I remember it was a relative who knew the women. The murderer ( I refuse to say his name) claimed he was shooting at his estranged wife. Lyman was sitting between the women and was struck in the temple and died two hours later at Broadway Methodist Hospital Lyman was class act and it was a excellent ball player and who knows just how great he would have been. The police in Gary had posted on signs Welcome to Gary. Enter at your own risk. A lady was shot two doors down from my house. The shooting of people continue all over the US. Gary has been reduced to a virtual ghost town. We once had the biggest steel mill in the world at Gary Works US Steel.
When Veeck took over in 1976, the plan was the White Sox to Seattle and the A’s would move from Oakland to Comiskey Park. He prevented that from happening.

Also note the red seats behind the post in foul territory and in front of them in both the lower and upper decks in the outfield. Color scheme left over from the previous ownership (John Allyn). i'v been to games with crowds that low at Shea Stadium late 70s. it's pretty cool, you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, no lines and you can sit anywhere you want.
If you're talking about the fans here, I would term it resignation and an understanding of the futility of the situation, rather than apathy. Given a semi-successful and entertaining team the very next season, they came out in numbers and cheered and inspired the Sox.
Harry may have been tipping, because at 3:29, he talks about Lyman Bostock's chance for the "scale" in the 9th inning, when "Cycle" is the known term for collecting at least one of each of the possible safely batted ball results.
It's odd only because I'm almost positive Phil Rizzuto and Bill White used to talk about Old Timers like Josh and Buck on Yankees games and said it with no issues, but that was a long time ago.....

Bostock was murdered in Gary, IN in late September of 1978 while the California Angels were in town for a weekend series against the White Sox.

The attendance was 3, 026, and I imagine that given the score being 12-6, many had left the park.
