I've been watching your hippo videos for a while, and been intending to try playing the hippo exclusively, so when I saw the 30% off the course, that was the final nudge I needed to take the plunge and make the investment. I just bought it yesterday, and I can already tell you that I absolutely love it! One of the things I like is that even after the intro and chapter one videos, I already felt confident enough to try it out for real, and have already won a few games with it. I'm now up to chapter 6 of the course, and another thing I like is your presentation style - I know I'll enjoy watching the videos multiple times. Finally, and most importantly, after a solid afternoon and evening of playing the hippo in online blitz and rapid, I'm really enjoying the system, and the variety of positions that arise! Thank you so much for all the work you put into making the course - it's worth every cent. And I'll still enjoy watching your hippo playlist on TH-cam too!
Solomon did you comment on Neppo vs Wei Ti 2019 Jerusalem.? Nice Hippo was not game with so many sacrifices and the ending was not to clear to me . If Not could you analyze? Thank you!
i flow your channel from many months... thanks for all free content.. i have one question what i should do against d4 and London system it's hard to play against this version when using hippo
I wonder what is the origin of the name of the system. Searching didn't seem to yield anything, besides a different subpar hippopotamus defense opening for black already exists. If I were to lean into theorycrafting, I'm pretty sure it's just butchering of the term hypo, which would make 100% more sense. Hypo meaning beneath, below, lack of, less, usually used in medical terminology. Somebody came up with it and then somebody else unaware of the term assumed the name is supposed to represent an animal. Thank you for listening to my ted talk.
Hippopotamus literally means "river horse". The way the knights (horses) are "tucked in" is reminiscent of the often filmed hippo's head "tucked" almost under water. …but there again, I used to think the King’s Indian Defence was so named because the fianchetto position resembled a teepee in which the king resided 😊
One thing I've noticed about many popular chess streamers is that everybody just calls it "hippo". It might be a stretch, but I believe it's been traded down through generations from original "hypo" into what everybody subconsciously now knows as "hippo", but nobody really knows why. Yeah, maybe the explanation is simply that it really just represents a random animal for whatever reason, but It's more fun to theorycraft :) .
You have a lot of free videos on the hippo on TH-cam. It would take me months to watch it all. Why would I rather buy the course than watch the free stuff? What is more there?
And what if someone also plays the hippo against you? Could become a bit of a standoff once both people have set up their positions on the third and sixth ranks, and waiting to see who will be the first to try and break through.

Really interesting to see the Hippo in the hands of one of the most aggressive GMs ever, even if they were only aiming for a draw.
This is Garry, thanks for teaching me the Hippo.
Can you make a opening video about the Botvinnik English
I would like that video too.
👍
Ditto on the opening-my preferred sequence. I did not at all like GK's pawn run up the board. "Don't try this at home.😊"

Do you update the course after some time? The meta changes.

Can you please make a video about the Accelerated Dragon?

CG, if your opponent KNOWS you're going to play the Hippo as white and black, how do they prep for you?

my man TCG!
From what I see is black is just trying to out play white right from the start with nothing more than that to do in this game😊
The Hippo Defense course is well worth it. (Uncompensated endorsement.)
❤
That clickbait is too much 🔥🔥🔥
