    Think I saw someone mention the resistance issue with the pots for the Fusion with EMG’s too.
    They loose some of their full sound and work passive too when the pots are high impedeance.
    HB should take note and correct the issue.

      I hope this video will help to make them change the issue. Its a shame, the amaroks are pretty good guitars

      Got that guitar and will return it because low B is very hard to intonate and string tension is not ideal. Probably will end up buying Amarok-6 and Amarok-BT. For the price it is very hard to find something similar. Visually and in hands guitar is superb, but scale and intonation is a serious problem :\

  • @Leo_ofRedKeep
    @Leo_ofRedKeep 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Adding a string makes the neck wider. Correcting this makes the strings closer to one another. For a 6-string player, there is no avoiding that feeling of "leaving home".

    Hey Cory, nice video as always :) I have been watching your videos for a long time and I can say you are probably the one that made me love Harley Benton. Funny fact is I was in the positives reviews you put on the screen... So this time I decided to stop by and explain why I love this guitar. Of course this is just a personnal feeling, my opinion is not better than any other and I want to be as careful as you on this point. About the specs, especially the pickups, I love two things. First one: it's a bit risky but very interesting to put an EMG hot 70 instead of more common setup like the 707 for example. The hot 70 add something to a setup made for metal in my opinion and the amarok has its own personality. For this price this is a great thing. Second point, I find theses pickups very accurate, when it comes to add some distorsion or to make djent stuff, they sound right, but indeed, they are good only with a little distorsion (around 50 on the pot with an Overdrive before in the chain). The clean sound as you said is also very good. About the neck, the shape is just perfect, I played on a friend's Schecter Cygnus and I feel it's too flat. So like you said before, it's a matter of taste and when it comes to pick a 7 string guitar for this price, this guitar deserve to be considered with all the specs in mind :) Thanks for you work and for your time if you read this.

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I read all of it 😁👍
      I repeat myself very often here with "its probably just me" when i say something i don't like.its obviously me not fitting to the guitar and i dont want to destroy the experience for someone else.
      But it just the way it is and the channel is about honest reviews.
      I agree with the EMGs.. I mean i think i proved they can sound good in the video but i know they can easilyzsound bad if you don't know what you are doing with amp settings etc.
      I liked them a lot on the amarok 6!
      The neck reminds me of my old Schecter Loomis... Baseball neck. Very fat. Like fat on a 6,really dislike it on a 7.
      Personal preference.
      Btw the EMG 707 were pretty bad on the loomis.
      Thanks for your long comment and your point of view!

    Hi! I have bought a red one, but have 2 issues:
    1) Intonation of low B string is impossible without removing the spring. Did you have any problems with intonation?
    For Drop A it is even worse: no spring and saddle all the way back, still not ideal. Of course, with 59 string B std is ok, but lower tunings need thicker strings => even worse intonation problems.
    2) Low B saddle has buzz in it, so string is partly muted, partly sound muffled after 12-15 fret. Before 12 fret it is ok.
    Apart from that, some visual flaws I don't care, but that buzz and intonation problem is a NO for an instrument :(
    I wanted a universal guitar to use as B std, E std 6 string and almost Baritone tuning all in one. But seems like 25.5" scale is really not ideal for 7 strings. Wish they made 26.5" Amarok-7 :(
    I will probably buy Amarok-6 and Amarok-BT for different usecases.

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, i recommend getting the amarok 6 string baritone and use it for drop A.
      I never need the 7th string anyway and there is no getting used to a wider neck

      @@CoryMura Thank you! I have MIJ 1996 Jackson Performer 6str with ultra thin and narrow neck, so this Amarok was a step up in all directions :) Nevertheless, I got used to it in a ~ day. But intonation and scale - that's dealbreaker.
      Have you had any intonation problems on regular 6str Amarok?

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the standard amarok got no issues.

  • @Wowom
    @Wowom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I also a love/hate relationship with the Amarok 7 and I largely agree with your sentiment. It's a very well built guitar for the price, excellent specs, no flaws in the finish (however I find the quilted veneer to lack depth ... but that's a veneer), love the stainless steel frets, the locking tuners and the neck through construction. But I really struggled to find a good setup for it, balancing string gauge, string tension and intonation (in Drop A) has been a real pain. The guitar still goes out of tune pretty frequently. And my main problem with this guitar is the pickups. I really struggle with the insanely high output of the EMG pickups, even with a fairly aggressive noise gate rolling back the volume knob and a fretwrap, the strings ring out super easily and it's extremely hard to keep everything muted correctly when playing. Everything sounds super compressed, clean tones are tricky to balance. Maybe it's a matter of taste, maybe it's a problem of technique on my end ... in any case, I don't enjoy them.

      Cant agree more. Have one myself. The build quality is pretty nice but i cant get it to a proper setup. Strings are buzzing massively no matter of string height or neck tension. Its hard to intonate. It doesnt stay in tune etc.

    • @LandsOfDespair
      @LandsOfDespair ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you on this, guys. Have it for a few weeks and will return. In std B I had to remove the spring and move a saddle very far away. For Drop A: no spring and saddle maxed out. And still not an ideal intonation. Also, have a buzz in low B saddle after 12-15th fret. And buzz of the 7th string overall. One positive: I now can do a full setup by myself :D
      Before spring removal it was: open - in tune / 12th fret - +5-8 cents / 24th fret - +35 cents. And saddle buzz :)
      All other strings are perfect. Only low B gives me problems.
      Wanted a universal guitar, but I will probably buy separate Amarok-6 and Amarok-BT to fix this. Have you had them?

    • @ourclarioncall
      @ourclarioncall ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most tuning problems come from 1. New strings have to be stretched out quite aggressively and repetitively to remove any slack still hiding in the windings around the tuner post. You wouldn’t think there was any slack but there is. If this step is not done then the guitar can continue going in and out of tune
      2. If you’ve completed that step then look at the nut. This is a massive issue even with expensive guitars . Most guitars have nut slots that are too high. Also the width of the slot maters , especially if you change string guages. Also the material of the nut matters , I would replace all the plastic or fake bone type nuts with real bone or maybe tusq. A quick fix that can help tuning issues from the string binding in the nut slots Is the rub a healthy amount of pencil lead in there. Or buy some guitar grease graphite paste. For example , I had a 3/4 Ibanez that just wouldn’t stay in tune until I put the pencil in between the slots and now it’s a great play guitar.

  • @ondmon818

    The neck, in my opinion , is the most important thing on a guitar. I play a vintage(the company) v6 strat and i absolutely love the neck- it's a 'soft c' apparently . I needed a humbucker guitar so i got a yamaha pacifica 311h in metallic red and it's a stunning guitar, the neck however is different, feels slightly narrower and maybe deeper(probably just more modern) and for that i play that guitar much less than the strat. The neck on the guitar is hugely important .

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fully agree! The neck is what connects you with the guitar, it's the part of your body that got always contact with the instrument. Most important but hardest to describe part imo

    I have one and the big problem is that the pickups squeals with distortion when you turn up the gain. ( I had this on 2 guitars ). I took it to the luthier and he noticed that the guitar has 500k pots where it should have 25k pots, we changed the pots to 25 k but it didn't change the squealing. Now I'm changing the pickups to Seymour Duncan Alpha & Omega and we'll see if it solves the problem. otherwise I think it's great, I had to lower the strings a lot.

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know exactly what you mean. That squealing... , I thought was my fault, wrong amp settings.also it was at little better after making sure the strings behind the nut can't ring. There were some crazy overtones going on.
      As you can hear in the video, it's fine now. Maybe i should have talked more about this.

    The 500k pots make no difference on tone since these are active pick-ups. The reason 25K are normally used is for better noise immunity.

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, will look more into it. I just always used the right 25k on EMGs before..
      BUT afaik if you turn a 500k pot up all the way it will still have a load.. Lets say like maybe 5-6k, thats added to the tone pot with 5-6k.
      Thats why "no-load pots" exist. they go in true bypass
      While a 25k turned up fully will have a rest load like 0.5k, tone pot too.
      Thats like a restload of 12k vs 1k.
      Numbers could be wrong but there is an impact with using 500k (twice)
      I will test this stuff in the future myself because i am very curious now.

    Mine cut my finger on a fret edge, had glue on the fingerboard and crackly pickups so it went back, I got an ibanez rga for the same price and won't touch harley again haha

    for a low budget guitar, i think keeping the neck the same as the 6 version is an intelligent choice. If you are new to 7 strings this instrument will be way better. If you can afford a better instrument there is no reason at all to buy harley benton, unless you just like to collect guitars for the looks

    Its really sad that they didn't do staggered offset dots like in the newer R446...having the dots on the top side in the higher frets is just wrong XD

    I had this guitar. I loved it but the neck was too thick. If I would had the guitar now I would make the neck thinner at the back with sanding paper. That will automatically make the weight of the neck lighter and counter attack the neckdive.

    10-59 on a 7 string?? I use 10-56 on my 6 string tuned to drop b lol, anything less is a bit too floppy for me. I would probably go with a 62 or 64 for the low string.

    • @CoryMura
      @CoryMura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, 10-59 are the stock strings the guitar comes with.
      I use 64-11 normally for b standard

      Jo, lange Zeit gespielt. Gut das das sagst, ich wollt schon lange ein kleines Video dazu machen.
      Aber ich kann hier schreiben das 432Hz tuning ist ziemlich fein bei allen Instrumenten... AUSSER der Gitarre. Die Gitarre intoniert ja sowieso nie sauber und damit ist seltenst eine Note auf der Frequenz auf der sie seien sollte.
