Again thank you for tracking a plant through a full year. It takes organization, planning, and patience, so not many TH-camrs do this. Actually, I cannot think of any others. I learn a lot this way. Happy new year!
So I was watching your older videos from like a year ago and I’d like to say Jan you are amazing living in Las Vegas made me hesitate in finally getting my passion for plants going and with all your tips and tricks I have successfully got two marble pothos on moss poles! Still small but they are happy and growing and my monstera I have two now and man the leaves are getting massive I’m so excited I’m freshly new to the plant world but so far so good! Hoping to buy another humidifier to combat the dry dry air here I bought a meter and about shook seeing 13% humidity I now have it a 40 plus so hopefully another large humidifier will get me to atleast 50 percent I do have warm weather and lots of sun on my side lol 😂 I just can’t tell you enough how grateful I am for your videos
Thanks for taking the time to film these updates over the last year. I love seeing your videos that show progress like this. And you may have just convicted me to get one of these in the next year! I love the idea of how they size up so quickly.
Have you ever looked at plugging the top of your poles while they're not being watered? I add a small cork ball to the top of my poles and wrap them in "plastic binding presentation covers" to make home made grow vertical poles. Corking the top has kept so much more moisture in my poles
my esqueleto grew a 3 foot runner with no leaves that found it's way behind and up a bookshelf, then started putting out really large leaves along the wall. I supported the vine with some command strip hooks and now have a lovely jungle wall.
I have an Esqueleto which I bought about 9 months ago. It was big when I got it. It has grown regularly. I put it outside during the summer and brought it inside 2 months ago. You inspired me to add a moss pole. Thanks!
That is a beautiful plant when it was young! I don’t think I have ever seen one of those plants I liked before until now. If I could have a plant that beautiful, I would love to have one. 😊
Jan: AJ says it doesn't want so much sun. Me: (Looking over at my very sad esqueleto sitting at the window) Huh. Esqueleto: It's about time! Thanks, Jan! 🪴 ❤ 🌱
omg YES, I bought my esqueleto at the end of 2023 and sadly neglected it due to everything kinda sorta falling apart and me having to pick up my pieces. I now have about 15 esqueleto cuttings growing again, hoping some of them catch onto my moss/bark poles. Thanks for the video.
Thanks again for the spotlight on this gorgeous plant! Mine is about the same size/condition as yours and it's in my heated home in Winnipeg doing super well this winter with a grow light, 18-22 degrees, and 40-50% humidity. It seems to be growing better in the winter than it did last summer!
I have grown a one in ambient Canadian (PNW) on a closed back moss pole. It’s been SUPER easy! Very similar experience to yours! I get about 1 leaf month and it doesn’t require much maintenance at all besides showering semi-regularly.
Super easy to grow large indoors!! Mine makes a new leaf every couple of weeks on a huge moss pole. It's under a decent sized light and around a few others. I did a chop and extend a few months ago and I'm gonna have to do it again before spring (northern hemisphere here!) I potted up some of the propagated nodes at the bottom of the pole to make a fuller plant. I took the other propagated nods and made a mixed moss pole with adansonii.
I got a monstera esqueleto around a year ago as a free bee with a monstera obliqua I bought. It has a very damaged leaf that eventually fell off and it became a wet stick. And it just put out it's first leaf a month ago, and despite being a rootless, leafless stick for 6 months, it was 6+ inches, with fenestrations. And recently it made another leaf and it was over twice the size. 10/10, very easy, and very pretty.
Hi Jan, I've been looking forward to this video for so long because this has been my number one wishlist plant for over 25 years. I saw one at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in the 90s as a nerdy teenager, long before I found out its apparent name and followed it through all the misidentifications and the realisation that its exact origin is a mystery. All that is known is that it was collected by Leopoldo Seidel somewhere in the Brazilian Amazon. His notes are very poor though, and he passed away, so no one knows exactly where it's from. That's why it doesn't have a species name and it can only be given a cultivar name at this point. The timing of this video is so bittersweet for me because I'm just coming to the realisation that the "'Esqueleto'" that I bought in October is probably the Indonesian NOID (green version of your 'Indonesian Marble'), which is also cool, but not on the same level for me at all - now I'm on the search for a genuine 'Esqueleto' and I need to get it from somewhere that I trust not to sell me something else.
@@sydneyplantguy I've been looking at a lot of pictures of it now though and made myself get excited about it. It's sometimes called Monstera "Janda Bolong". It gets big when mature and has kind of paddle-shaped leaves with more regular holes. Craigmilran has one and he calls it his Bali adansonii. Judging from how mine has been, it might be hard to mature, but worth it. I hope your "Indonesian Marble" matures too. I will get a real 'Esqueleto' some day. 🥺
I would recommend the monstera Burke Marx flame, the price has really gone down since tissue culture, they grow beautifully in the right conditions (with a moss pole)
I also have an Esqueleto that did a wold lot of nothing for the past 9 months. I got them as 2 single leaf cuttings that I polyhedral together. I was worried they would stay like that forever. I put them in my husbands office at home up on a cabinet. It’s’ warm in there and bright, but on the cabinet it didn’t get as much light as that plants down lower. About 6 weeks ago it gave us our first leaf. We now have the 7the leaf coming in between the 2 plants. They aren’t tiny, nut definitely not as large as the leafs I bought. They are about the size of your newest largest leaf, probably even a bit bigger. I don’t have it on a pole, because it hasn’t been doing anything until recently. I don’t love moss poles. so I’m not sure what to do. For now, I’ve given it a wood pole for stability. I’d love for it to size up, but not sure the trade off of a pole is worth it. It might be for this plant. Not for most. But this plant is GORGEOUS!! I absolutely love it. It’s one of my favorites. Thanks for taking the time to film this over an entire year! I know that takes so much time for you. But I absolutely love watching these kind of videos. So I am super thankful!!!!
I love your content. You inspired me to get my plants on poles! So far, every one has failed, but that's cause I'm too exited and loving them too much 😂 Thank you for the humour, the knowledge and the followups!
Being a ‘monstera’ I wonder what this plant would look like not on a pole? I have a deliciosa and it’s gorgeous and not on a pole. I would love to have this plant without a pole.
One of my favourite Monstera! ☺ I've grown mine for a couple of years and agree that other than a moss pole (to prevent runners) it doesn't need any special conditions. I also grow it in ambient conditions, but unlike yours it gets eastern exposure with some light from a southern skylight (northern hemisphere) on the other side of the room. I think it may prefer more light, since mine sized up faster (from a small palm sized leaf to more than 40 cm in about 8 leaves, all in one growing season) and the internodes are much smaller (a couple of centimeters).
Ha! I just found one and put it in a moss pole this fall!! No one else will be able to tell the difference between the esqueleto and my adensonii cept me tho lol, they’re too similar for the layman’s eyes, my baby was /is so much smaller than what you started with, but doing well so far at 20-22 degrees and between 35-50% humidity
Question: How do you manage to disconnect two Grow-vertical-poles stuck into eachother for a couple of centimeters (how many would that be btw?)? What if the plant has so many or so strong thick roots within both poles that you'd have to cut them apart because the cannot be pulled out of the bottom pole. I use a similar pole system, and my plants aren't as mature as youra yet. Still I wobder how I would go about that. How do you do that? Thanks and cheers from Germany 😊
i have noticed my moss pole is drying out superrr fast and the water drains through really fast when i water with a bottle on top. I'm thinking maybe I didn't put enough moss when making the pole? is there any way to add more moss to an already made pole? thanks! 😄
Things will get better, don't give up 😋💪🏻 I feel you, had to cut most fronds from a fern because it's in shock and my Philodendron Splendid is on it's 4th pole in the hopes I can get it to size up this time. We're all in this journey together haha, we'll get there someday 😂
I also was looking to the left to see my obliqua amazona still just the same as when I brought it 4 months ago, But it's not dead so I'm happy about that 😆👌
