    I freeze dried Greek yogurt successfully. I flavored it with raspberry powder I freeze dried and powdered and put it in a 1” square silicone sheet. I froze it and then placed it into the FD. It turned out really nice. As it melts in your mouth … it becomes fresh raspberry yogurt. Just amazing 🤩

    I freeze dry Fage Greek plain Yogurt 0% fat all the time with excellent results. When rehydrated, my hubby couldn't tell it from fresh. I do entire trays at a time with 1.5 (35 oz) cartons per medium tray. Of course it comes out as a crystal powder right out of the FD but rehydrated, it's fantastic. Don't see why people are having an issue.

    I use a frosting bag to make tiny (size of mini chocolate chip) whole milk Greek yogurt bites for my 1 year old granddaughter. I store them in a glass jar and she loves them and they hold together wonderfully. With a bigger tip on the bag I have made Greek yogurt bites for my older kids and they (the yogurt not the kids) also have held together well. I think the trick is storing in glass and not trying to vacuum seal them. Just got my 2nd freeze dryer!

    So I've been putting off buying a freeze dryer for about 5 years now because I couldn't justify the cost. After finding your channel I just ordered a medium one 5 minutes ago using your affiliate link. I am very excited for what comes next. The only down side is it's an 8 week turn around time but I can't wait

    I took vanilla almond milk yogurt and put powdered freeze dried strawberries in one bowl and powdered Bananas & yogurt in another and mixed it until combined and made yogurt drops with it and they are really good! I made them for my baby nephew and for my kids and they love them. You could mixed any powdered freeze dried fruit with a yogurt to make it thicker.

    I regularly freeze dry Greek yogurt as “yogurt bites” for my grandkids. I spoon the yogurt into a condiment bottle that I bought at the Dollar Store. I cut the spout top so it has an opening of about 1/4” diameter. I put parchment paper on my chilled trays and then use the bottle to make dots of yogurt about 3/4 inch diameter. This works best with smooth yogurts without fruit chunks. I put it in the freeze-dryer without pre-freezing and it takes about 12 hours to finish. Recently I tried using a coconut milk based yogurt for my dairy intolerant son and while the
    dots spread a little more than Greek yogurt, those too turned out well.

I am hoping I can FD smoothies to take on camping trips or travel!

    I got random question you might be able to answer (or another fellow follower). If oxygen absorbers can keep food in mylar bags good for 25 years, why does oxygen absorbers stored in mason jars or other type containers only say they will last 1 year of storage. So only buy what you will use in a year.

      I did a test of a 300 cc oxygen absorber that was several years old. I have pictures that I do not know how to add but the bottom line was that it removed about 500cc (I tested it twice as the first one removed all the oxygen before it was used up). The test was with a quart mason jar with a packet taped to the top of a small measuring glass cup. The glass was in a glass bowl with water and blue food coloring.

      Good question. I know you can freeze dry sourdough starter and it comes back to life and works normally when dehydrated, so thinking about that makes me lean toward saying the probiotics would remain or return to active. But I don't know for sure.

    I've been making yogurt drops for my grandbabies and they love them, but I am not always happy with how they come out. Out of 6 batches they I have run, the best was full fat strawberry Greek yogurt with blitzed up freeze dried bananas in it. Drops formed and held their shape really well and flavor popped. I want to try some unflavored gelatin to see what happens and was thinking of trying some silicone molds. Afraid that might be a mess waiting to happen, but it is only yogurt...lol

    I’m guessing some modified food starch (like ultra-gel) would have the same effect as the pudding without the extra favors and sugars. Yes, I know it sounds like a scary item but it’s not. Basically a cornstarch you don[t have to cook. What do you think is in that pudding anyway? Worse stuff.

    Greek Yogurt is simply regular yogurt that has had more of the whey drained off.

    • @terrim.602
      @terrim.602 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory, that is correct, but it is not correct. Greek yogurt has at least 5 active cultures. You can buy yogurt with no cultures and let it strain to get the heavier/thicker texture like Greek yogurt, but it still doesn't have live cultures. Look at labels and only buy yogurt that has at minimum of 5 cultures. You can use that yogurt as the starter of a whole gallon of delicious plain Greek yogurt. Add thawed fruit and stevia or very small amount of sugar and you will be so surprised at how amazing it is!!
