    Eve L. Ewing, speak facts: "Affluent blacks are more likely to live around low income blacks in the neighborhoods they live in, than in white neighborhoods". I have been waiting for someone that has a platform to point out this fact of disparity! Very articulate! Well done!

      Tonya Harvey tell that to Kanye West or Trevor.. do you think they live in the hood? Beverly Hills and the upper west side the hood ain’t. What are they actually doing to empower ALL poor/working class people? What does this rhetoric do to accomplish any dialogue with poor white people who vote for republicans because they’re tired of being told how privileged they are by democrats?

    • @TheHarveyTruth
      @TheHarveyTruth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      starstuff100 It's not rhetoric, it's reality! My understanding is that the people that are not experiencing it, have no idea what's this statement even means!

      Tonya Harvey racism exists, it’s a problem and the history of slavery and segregation has left a wound which will not be easily healed; however, my point is that financial means always empower even those who were historically disenfranchised and who still face discrimination. Wealth empowers, always. You have more in common with your white neighbors than Kanye West with his golden toilets, regardless of race.

      @@starstuff100 "More likely" is a term you guys need to learn the meaning of. "More likely" does not mean "guaranteed." The ignorant keep using the argument that "well, the media and polls got it wrong, so it's obviously fake news." Someone who understood the words and concepts being used would only use that argument to manipulate those who don't. "Likely" is not the same as "guaranteed." "Chance" means "possibility," which does not mean "definite." When there's a "90% chance" that something will happen, there's a 10% chance that it will not; no guarantee, but it is "likely." When they say "Affluent blacks are more likely to live around low income blacks in the neighborhoods they live in, than in white neighborhoods," they mean exactly what the words they typed/said mean: there is a high probability, but it is not guaranteed to be 100% true every time in every case.

    She’s so right, in America people are blamed for being poor, if you live in a low income family your only path towards success is to be the top of everything, grades, sports, extracurricular activities, and of course perfect SAT. While children in upper class just go to school, celebrate B’s and C’s and choose which Ivy League school is better for them. Most often 99% of kids in wealthy neighborhoods get into the college of their choice while only about 9 students of a big poor school gets into college. Seeing the gap between races in education is just upsetting considering the government is supposed to put the same efforts into schools. And the crazy part is that Black people have it better than Native Americans and Spanish students. I used to live in a predominantly black neighborhood and I thought white people didn’t exist in my city, only saw them in downtown, then I moved to a predominantly white neighborhood, only black in our block and now I only see black people in downtown 😂 Segregation is still real and strong in America, and the most dangerous part is that even as black people we’ve now accepted it without seeing the negative effects it has in our lives. The government only invest in white areas so if we don’t integrate those areas we’ll never benefit from those things. My motto is follow white people and you’ll find the money. 🤷🏾‍♀️ however, they’re also now moving into black neighborhoods but that’s another issue.

    • @im.empimp
      @im.empimp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd extend your motto to "follow the financially prosperous people and you'll find the money" or "follow the successful people and you'll find success". White women still earn $0.80 to the $1.00 of white men and your sentiment works for them, it also works for race, sexuality, etc. My second extension is actually pretty different, because different people have different definitions of success.
      I get the impression that Eve doesn't want to be crazy rich; to her success would be about more equitable opportunities for every child. In other words, her personal success will look very different than the average rich person's success.
      Of course, in our capitalist world, understanding how financially prosperous people got there can impact an individual's _strategy,_ even if their personal _goal_ isn't centered on having lots of money.

    • @Lilyrose23
      @Lilyrose23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      boo yah
      I also agree with your second point, success doesn’t just mean money. But, often people who live in poor neighborhoods don’t even know the amount of resources that exist in their city, they think that life of poverty is all they’ll know forever, they get mixed up to gangs and drop out of school because they don’t think education is for them. However, once those same people move to a better environment they realize how easy it is to escape the poverty they’re born in. I know that because in our university some young black men who had problems with the law were put into a program that educated them and took them to another environment instead of prison. And they all said that going to other schools, universities and traveling through field trips of the program made them want to study and they all were now working, planned to go to college and they agreed that changing their environment and seeing a better future is what changed them the most. Students in poor neighborhoods also perform less in state tests because the environment they’re in doesn’t reward education. I did a research about the education gap in my city Seattle for my statistics class in college and black students performed more when they were in a predominantly white school ( richest neighborhood) than when they were in a predominantly black school ( poor neighborhood) and there was also a strong positive correlation between Income and test scores.

Secondly, in my heart I believe that investing in the education of children from all backgrounds will quell "hyper-individualism" and start (or continue) the revolution for global progressiveness for ALL peoples. The cure for cancer or world peace could come from the mind on a kid named Chequan in Chicago. You never know. At least...that's my wish.

I didn't hear the word "blame" until you responded. Seems to me you've got some issues you need to deal with before a reasonable conversation about "forced integration" and "white privilege" can occur. Let me start the salvo with, Merry XMAS, God bless you, and prayers for you and your family. Moreover, I hope you have an amazing New Year.
      So you know your audience, I am a decorated veteran of two wars, a college graduate (working on my Masters with a full time job), with no criminal history, a proud father, a taxpayer, and a product of both all black and fully integrated schools. I'm a PA resident so for me, every day of my life is a challenge against racism. White priviledge or not, I won't let ANYONE prevent me from being the best HUMAN BEING I can be. BTW, I know black families care as much about their kids as white families. Boy you need a hug.

      @bridogg154 I'm going to follow Eve's words and not spend a lot of time trying to convince you about how racism is a symptom and Chicago is the cold that results from the racist policies that affect it. Please don't EVER say black people don't care about their kids. I would lay odds that you have never felt the feeling of hopelessness that results from systemic racism that plagues minorities in this the world's greatest country.
      Here's the thing. I believe in the Scientific Method. Let's put your theory to task in Chicago and integrate your children into the black public school system there. If not yours, another affluent white family or families who want to push change and equality through education and "racial unity". Maybe they can observe first hand how much black families care about their kids and how racist policies affect that community. Don't just pay lip service to it, lets hypothesize, test it, chronicle the results, and independently test it again across the country and see if it works. Can we start with you @bridogg154? How about your neighbor?

      The school system is bad. The issue with it i think is children sit for hours a week up to 12 grade and then we expect them to not be lazy and get a job when they been Conditioned to sit on a desk, getting A's B's and C's instead of them discovering what they want to do in life.
      From actions one can learn and get experience, from sitting nothing good comes from it.

      @Conner Clark you realize what you said is literally a byproduct of structural racism, right? Black upward mobility is stifled by racist white policies (ie limiting access to resources, banks refusing to give out housing loans to prospective black homeowners, etc.), then ofc there is going to be a generational disparity in inheritance.

    • @connerclark3678
      @connerclark3678 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      P0k3D0nd3M4cG Well, I want laws against housing discrimination and for schools to get funding without regard their racial pie chart (already laws on the books with both). But since we fund schools with local property taxes, it’s a given that, on average, richer students will get a better education than poorer ones. That always sounded like a flawed system to me but I wonder how we fix it without screwing over those suburban kids who are already building their own future based on expected access to AP classes, sports/clubs, etc.

I struggled and did poorly that year too and when it came down to applying for college, gpa was so low i got rejected EVERYWHERE.. i'm an adult now, but for some reason i think about this quite often. i'm not pointing fingers but it feels like someone should've noticed ? offered a solution? made some suggestions? my home situation was fucked up and abusive too which added to the pile.

I myself went to work right out of high school (a not uncommon decision at the time), so I may very well be wrong about this, but I _believe_ that city colleges are open to everyone, and if you do well, you should be able to transfer to a better school. Джейк Пол логан bullshit! The europeans were behind in many areas. Islamic ctries were advanced in astronomy, mathematics, science and medicine. The islamic world also influenced other aspects of european culture, partly by original innovations made in the islamic golden age, including various fields, such as the arts, agriculture, alchemy, music and pottery. Gmab, europeans thought bathing was unhealthy! They suffered from plagues due to the filth they lived in. Fleas on rats carried that plague and rats were in abundance due to filthy living conditions! Medicine killed ppl more often than curing them. In the the 1800s, queen victorias grandson, kaiser wilhelm, had a dead rabbit hung around his neck to supposedly 'cure' his lame arm and he had some wooden contraption rigged to his body in an attempt to fix that arm! Brilliant! 😂 Get over your european supremecy fallacy. They went into other ctries, true enough, and conquered and divided them. What did that do? It created a mess! Look at pakistan, afghanistan, india etc and all those 'stans' the british created. They were united before and now hate each other. Lmao

    Trevor please check into this story : Tonight I was racially profiled and discriminated against for taking a phone call in the lobby of my hotel room at the DoubleTree Hotel Portland DoubleTree by Hilton. The security guard "Earl" decided that he would call the police on me, the exact reason is still unclear to me.
    He said that I was a safety threat to the other guests and that I was trespassing and said that I was a disturbance because I took a personal phone call from my mom in a more remote area of the lobby.
    The manager who actually called the cops, "Luis" actually asked me AFTER he called the cops, what happened?
    They already had in their minds that they didn't want me there so I waited for the cops to show up and when they did, I explained my side of the story and they didn't want to hear it. They asked me if I had personal items in my room (which of course I did) and asked me to go retrieve them. They told me that since the hotel requested me to leave, that if I didn't I would be considered a trespasser and would be thrown in jail. I complied and cooperated and was not issued a refund for my room. I packed my stuff and went to another hotel.
    I cannot believe the level of professionalism that this hotel property had with me tonight. It is never ok to discriminate against guests for the color of their skin and to prejudge them based on your own bias against that race. Earl is a disgrace, calls himself a man but calls the Portland Police Dept on a man who was minding his own business in the lobby of his hotel. I had my hotel key in my hand the entire conversation, he knew I was a guest. He wanted to prove a point and did it in the worst way. Not really shocked that this happened but just extremely disappointed. I will be seeking justice. Believe that. You want to help minorities (of _any_ stripe) move up in the world? Help them focus on their math. In the immortal words of Jaime Escalante, math is the great equalizer. You don't need a lot of materials to teach it, and as time goes by and the world becomes inexorably more technical, this drives increasing demand to math skills and those who have them.
    It's also a good idea to help them learn a foreign language, because as time goes by, the human race _also_ becomes inexorably more _interconnected._

    • @hyrunnisa997
      @hyrunnisa997 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you missed the point. How can their schools teach them properly if they are underfunded and are being closed? Where will these kids learn math and foreign language? What if they cant even go to school without being in danger? Here in Detroit many girls get gang raped in these schools. The buildings are falling apart, entire classrooms are condemned and recently they had to shut off all of the water because of the high levels of copper and lead.

    • @lazyperfectionist1
      @lazyperfectionist1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hyrunnisa997 I'm sorry. I should've worded it better. Not to diminish the harrowing condition of Detroit, but I've experienced math education that was less than stellar in buildings that were in _good_ condition; math curricula drawn up by people who didn't have a clue or just didn't care. Yes, one needs schools in good condition, but one also needs curricula drawn up by people who care and who know what they're doing. I dare to say that the budget in Detroit would not be so underfunded if a greater portion of the Detroit population was strong in their math skills, and accordingly, had high-paying jobs.
      So Detroit is the unfortunate victim of a self-fulfilling, short-sighted prophecy.

    Another major issue that gets sidelined, despite its overarching importance. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EDUCATION! Start with crap, the BEST you can get is flavored crap. Even a hard-working, intelligent, interested kid will only get half or less of the info and skill set needed to compete (gee, wonder why the rich don't want this...)
    EVERY child needs a REAL, honest education and opportunity to succeed. "Society" has placed ENORMOUS barriers to success, largely to protect their privileged status.
    But this IS a problem with a real, if unlikely, solution. Republicans have made it VERY clear they want no part of a fair and honest democracy. EVERY legal solution is ignored or turned into something to benefit those who already have too much. And virtually EVERY one of those most guilty are in only one political party. So the path(ology) is clear. They want no part of a democracy, give them what they wish. Disenfranchise the GOP, so they no longer have the right to assemble, vote or disperse false information (via the Fox Propaganda Network. If necessary, re-education centers for the incorrigible (we did it for the Jews and the misfits (eugenics,) we did it for WW2, so STFU.)
    Eliminate the problem. THEN heal the nation.

    That is fine if you want your own echo chamber but many people around the world who are not American and/or are not black will lose interest and will miss the important videos like this one which would be a shame because there is not a lot of point telling people who already know the problem about the problem.
