So astonishing, it brings tears to my eyes. Coupled with the enormous loss when the sea claimed Esbjörn, the beauty and pain combined are almost too much to bear.
I never grow tired of listening to this. Pure genius. Thankful that I heard them play in Bristol in 2007 shortly before Esbjorn was tragically taken from us. Always a joy to listen to.
Ce trio est absolument exceptionnel, je ne me lasse pas de les écouter, les regarder ! Quelle tristesse le départ brusque par accident stupide d’Esbjorn . RIP cher artiste d’exception ! Ton art demeure vivant
i remember the very first time i heard to e.s.t., the song was "viaticum", and i stayed just petrified, it was incredible, but, well, i guess now nothing would surprise me in the music ambient, not with this genius. R.I.P. Esbjorn :'(
What an unparalleled talent. It was like being given the best starter you've ever tasted, then suddenly you were told that the kitchen was closed. RIP Esbjörn
Clapping has some crazy out of phase and cymbals? I think the recording let them down here. Sonically, I think we are only getting half the performance. Great job none the less.
@@TCt83067695 Sure thing, I saw them in 2006 when I was but a larvae and I was truly blown away. Was in uni playing for the jazz band and adamantly hated the curriculum and the Gershwin songbook. This band and a few others really sparked my imagination. Happy listening and be well chief.
I was lucky enough to see him once at the Old Fruit Market in Glasgow (2006). I was shivering through the entire performance. He was not only a superb musician but also a fantastic person with a tremendous depth. No dislike for this video. No wonder. It's simply impossible to not like this masterpiece :-)
The idea of this song was used for a soundtrack for the show Zankyou no Terror, and I believe one of the tracks features the bassist's daughter (?) Hanna Berglind--they share a last name. Interesting!
"Idea"? They sound almost the exact same. I'm a Yoko Kanno's fan and listening this song left me in shock because 'saga' (which is Kanno's version) was my absolute favorite in the soundtrack.
@Mary Mctavish Umm...no. Talent is essential of course, but here's a quote from the bass player, Dan Berglund, in the Irish Times, after Svensson's death: “I was in another band around the time I joined the trio but I chose the trio because I felt it was more my kind of music and I thought we had the potential to go further than my other bands. Of course, achieving this involved a lot of work and we spent a lot of time trying to break through." Laurenz Klecker I’m honestly damn jealous. Their music touch me deeply. I’ve seen Sakamoto in Hamburg live once. I’m thankful for that. But they were so brilliant...
Yum. I got to the Svensson Trio via Pat Metheny, and now I've been checking out their videos and I am totally falling in love with their music. Svensson's piano playing is SO beautiful. This trio is becoming one of my all-time favorites! Can't believe I didn't know about them for so long.
Esbjorn had a fantastic feeling of polyphony and the differenciation of hands. And the ingenious sense of musical timing. By the way, I use to show this composition to my students as an example of complex three-part form with passacaglia in the 1st part and in the reprise and with intonational reminiscences of them with the contrasting middle part wich is of episode-type. And note that the reprise of the passacaglia's bass theme is superimposed on the ending of the middle part - so-called combined reprise. One of the most ingenious compositions of E S.T.
How could somebody dislike this guy ... first time i noticed him was on a sleepless night on tv.... my jaws dropped off and then i took my guitar to jam with them... so fucking genious
Not only is the music timeless and the performance fantastic, but the modernist set, the filming filming ,all those cables on stage - give it a nice '70s retro vibe. Some cadences of the solo section remind me of 'Blue in Green/Autumn Leaves' changes.
Imposible generar mayor sensibilidad en forma de musica que la que hay entre el mto 4:40 y el 5:15 aprox., este grupo, y en especial, Esbjörn pertenecian a otra dimension musical!!!

Listen to how God speaks through a pair of hands! RIP Esbjörn.
Then 'god' allowed him to die...
Derek Warby no, he invited him to play
Absolutely terrific!! RIP Esbjorn :(
... Mycket bra jazz, tack!
one of the most savage bass patterns in modern jazz. not to be played while driving.

i came here after listening to the zankyou no terror ost, and i can surely say i'm absolutely in love
Dan Berglund is my new favourite bassist.
He also plays very well on the album Alla Mina Kompisar by Per Texas Johansson!
How people manage to work together to such precision, speed and complexity
The answer is the same for every question about music, practice
@Mary Mctavish Lmfao. No.

I'm so glad that I could see them live one time... No one could ever reach this level since then! My opinion.
Laurenz Klecker I’m honestly damn jealous. Their music touch me deeply. I’ve seen Sakamoto in Hamburg live once. I’m thankful for that. But they were so brilliant...

+guitarmax99 Me too. To bad Svensson died. He is and could have been even greater. But still such an inspiration to hear his music.
When Jazz Bachs
JaZZ ist unsterblich! ... Esbjörn Svensson hat uns das Testament hinterlassen ... Fantastische Persönlichkeit ... Grüße Sveden
the year he died he was coming to my hometown...never got to see him.it´s sad when people like that leave us with our sad selves in this stupid world
