Rescuing 1960's Tractors for USE on a Friends Farm ~ Forgotten in a CROWD of OTHER old Tractors

  • I enjoy old machines & tractors, as you may know, and recently, a friend of mine called me to see if I could help him move a couple of tractors that he purchased from an auction back to his farm. He uses these types of machines on his cattle farm. The two machines are from the 1960's; they are two Case 930 tractors. One is propane and one is diesel. They have been sitting in the mud for decades, but that finally changed! We had to do a few repairs to get the tractors onto the trailer, which I'll show in this video.
I hope you enjoy! I know we did!
    ~
0:00 - Introduction to the recoveries

Have a Pitman Polecat PC1300 on Ford F700. Replaced all the cylinder packings, slide bearings and a lot of hoses on mine. No leaks. The main 2 stage extension cylinder on the PC1300 here was mfg by Great Bend industries. Have the Pitman manual and parts catalog for the PC1300. Very handy to have a digger derrick for pole sheds, swapping engines, and other heavy jobs.

Back in the late 1970s, I was grinding a piece of metal without wearing safety glasses and a redhot ember went into my left eye. I learned the hard way that PPE especially safety glasses are very important. Friendly advice.

When you change your heat on the welder you have to let it go back to idle then change your heat if you don't then you run the risk of messing up the dial changer. I have the same model and that's after I messed up 2 dials because of that. I do love your channel bud and love what you do keep it up because people today would rather let the old iron rot in there yards instead of getting them running again or selling them to people that will

I'd say if you have a small holding or even a small farm, using these older tractors can make sense, as they don't cost much, there is very little to go wrong on them and they are light weight, so less soil impaction. It's also nice to see the old tractors given a new lease of life.

Since that truck has air brakes, I know what I would do. I would put me a air chuck on there, and use the truck air to air up those tires. It should build up to 120lbs, more than enough for what you need. it might equalize , but you will get at least 60lbs. Plug in a air hose, and there you are, heck with that battery operated compressor!

Great work , I love the truck , the crane and winch is super nice . Glad you helped him save these old machines . The new stuff is to dependent on to many sensors and switches that will not stand the test of time . These old machines set in the weather for decades and they are still worth the effort of repair . Simplicity is the key . I love your channel , great work and craftsmanship .

Next time you experience stick welder problem with current too high, try using a 4ft piece of ½" waterpipe as current regulating resistor in series with the ground lead.
You will need an extra ground lead w/ clips (a jumpstarter cable will do fine).
The more length of water pipe is inserted, the more you lower the welding current.
Quite easy to find the sweet spot.
NOTE: the pipe gets HOT ! (though nothing like red hot)
