RIDING A NEW ENDURO BIKE AT REDBULL HARDLINE!!

- The RedBull Hardline downhill race is the craziest MTB event of the year. The course has huge jumps and crazy features and without a downhill bike, I had to build a brand new enduro bike to ride this course. I didn’t manage to race but here is footage of me riding the course and doing tricks on the huge step up. Hopefully you like my new bike - and the bonus pit bike session!
Everybody else: DH rig and full on protection gear.

He must not be used to clipless pedals. Once you get used to them, it becomes second nature to flick your ankles sideways, even upside down in the air. I used to race XC, and I went OTB a number of times and always immediately was out of my pedals long before I was close to going over. Most likely since he’s a free rider, he uses flat pedals the majority of the time.
I started racing before clipless came along, and I hated racing with flat pedals and toe clips; they just didn’t hold me in. So I started using road cleats with double leather straps that locked me in completely. In order to get out, I had to reach down and flick the leather straps. I once went off the side of a rocky trail at high speed, did a complete flip and would have landed on my wheels if a bunch of willow branches hadn’t caught me. I was completely locked in. Made for good bike handling skills though.

Watching you do this puts the actual race in perspective. Watching the real thing is absolutely unreal.

Very smart guy not to even try and race. Could have got career ending injuries there. Takes a lot of balls to chicken out of something like that when you're in the public eye, so fair play Matt!

Great effort anyway Matt...that was absolutely not the right tool for the job though...hope you can get there next year with a DH bike and send it...Btw, Jono's Salmon impression was pretty epic! 😂 (Glad nothing serious happend)...Such a great event...loved it!

Matt, love you to pieces, mate, it's very humbling to see you taking your time down this track and having a bit of fear the intensity! Really goes to show how extreme the DH sport is when a killer rider as yourself is having quite a challenge to make it to the bottom. Thanks for the vid and I'm stoked for you!!!

You would of had a bit better chance if you changed the back tire to a 27.5 and keep the 29er on the front would of have you a little more angle but with the 29er in the front would still give that control.
I like the look of this one much better than the old weird linkage design that honestly make it look like an e-bike.
Good call to opt out of the race. I mean I'd loved to have seen that and I'd have cheered for you, but not at the risk of you getting seriously injured.

You stated at 11:07 that a 203mm rotor is the biggest and most powerful rotor you can get, that is false. The Alpine Trail is also a pretty modest enduro bike, It has a relatively modest HT angle, small wheelbase, and has incredibly shore chainstays. A real enduro race bike like a Pivot Firebird or the new Rocky MTN slayer would have been far better for such a gnarly course. Props to you for giving it a shot tho, those tricks were wicked!
i bet the money he gets from marin.. and them being yearsss behind in geo compared to other companies is worth it.
