Mont Buet, Grand Couloir West, 14/02/17

  • Despite the occasional storm, winter here in Chamonix just isn't happening right now, and we are set to have the worst season in living memory.
    But that doesn't mean we shouldn't go out and look for fun anyway. On Valentine's Day, Joel Evans, Grant Fulton, and I, went rummaging around on the wild side of mighty Mont Buet, hoping for a bit of a ski in the Grand Couloir West, an absolutely stunning 5.3E3 descent. It was a long day, starting with around 1750m of ascent finishing with a fairly long walk down the valley to Sixt Fer Cheval, with some top-quality ski canyoneering in the middle.

    You started skiing soon after walking? In Britain?

      I first skied at 3 years old, in France, Italy, and Austria. I've only skied in England once, at 2 in the morning after work one night, on a tiny hill local to where I grew up. The snow had melted by sunrise.
