You could have washed that hoof off for this particular problem before shoving gauze up there. I know it’s not necessary when trimming. But with this particular repair you shoved a lot of dirt up there.

That needs to be opened up so it can heal properly. Stuffing cotton in the wound wont heal it. It will actually do more harm.
