    I have a yuzu tree. I got it 7 years ago and this is the first year producing fruits.

    You have no idea how valuable these videos are for permaculture and edible landscaping enthusiasts. Many rare fruits like Yuzu can be grown in temperate zones, but they are typically unknown to gardeners and not grown or eaten. Yuzu is apparently good down to 10'F/-12C maybe even lower.

    Yuzu is actually a very popular flavour here in HK, give anything a Yuzu flavour, it just vanishes off the shelf. People also eat it often, during the Mid Autumn festival. But you gotta find a bigger one than that, or else, yeah, it's gonna be very sour.

      Actually, we eat Pomelo instead of Yuzu in Mid Autumn Festival. Yuzu is more like a “Japanese” fruit.

    Yuzu is more about its fragrance than its flavor- its like a lemon orange but with a juniper inflection... I think the rind on the Yuzu is what's valued and I've even had crystallized yuzu peel which is fantastic- sugar definitely brings out the flavor. Its used in baking too- I have had a wonderful dessert where they cut the yuzu's top off like a jack-o-lantern, hollow out the fruit, and bake a sort of citrus pound cake inside the rind! I think they may also have candied the rind. Its served with juniper leaves which enhance the flavor.

      yuzu is a ancient citrus, early on branched off as a family line...smells like grapefruit/tangerine, but slightly musky- has it's own distinct smell... I grow them. big thorns!

    Yuzu sake is really great! I got a 750mL bottle for about $15 on sale here in San Francisco during a ramen festival, and yesterday I bought a yuzu tree on sale for $25. Super excited for the harvest after seeing your review! Thanks ^^

    In Korean grocery stores they sell a yuzu paste mixed with strong brewed tea in a glass jar for health reasons. it really does help to banish the common cold, get rid of throat congestion and it is delicious. You take a big spoon of it, put it in a mug, add hot water to it, stir and drink it down. A large jar costs ~$8.00 and is worth every penny. The Japanese use yuzu as a condiment mixed with soy sauce. I have got to try that. I just thought it was lemon flavored which isn't all that special. Yuzu kosho is a traditional Japanese condiment made from spicy peppers and kuzu grated peel. The Japanese also make a marmalade from kuzu fruit. The peel is delicious when candied.

    I'm not really a big fan of sugary sodas, but a couple of years back I found a really tasty green citrusy one, very off-brand, named Yuzu. It was very cheap and I doubt there's any real yuzu in it, but it's made me very curious about the fruit and this video didn't turn me off it at all. Curious about the yuzu-booze, too!

    • @WeirdExplorer
      @WeirdExplorer  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That sounds deslish! I love trying weird sodas. You might be able to make your own yuzu soda! If you have an asian supermarket try and track down something called Yujacha, its basically a concentrate of yuzu that is used in tea. Just thin it out and mix with seltzer.

    How to eat Hyuga-Natsu is quite different from other citrus species. Hyuga-Natsu should be pealed like apple and sliced like peach with its white albedo left. The albedo of Hyuga-Natsu has slightly sweet taste and no bitterness. And eat its flesh with its albedo. That’s how Hyuga-Natsu should be eaten in the most delicious way.

    Yuzu is not Japanese. China is the first country of yuzu and has developed a yuzu tea in Korea. Japan imports a lot of yuzu, but they don't know how to eat yuzu, so they think it's jam, so they eat it on bread.
