Leveling UESP Article: en.uesp.net/wi...
This was recorded on Daggerfall Unity v1.1.1 with no mods or texture packs. It's free on the internet and I highly recommend anybody who enjoyed the later games to check it out.
Holy smokes guys. The response to this has been overwhelming. I can't thank you all enough for watching! If you guys have any ideas for future challenges I'm happy to hear them!
More videos like this would go down a treat. Nice concept, well narrated, juicy length.
Do the same challenge but with forbidden armor (plate) and forbidden material (ebony).
This type of content is my favorite. You're a cool dude.
Dude we love daggerfall
Not so much a suggestion but my OCD demands I mention it. Anyway(s) isn't a word. 'Anyway' is singular and plural, it is to be without an S.
I hesitate to say anything about grammar since it can often be perceived as insulting.
I imagine your character as a real life person who's obsessed with the lore of the universe, then he gets isekai'd into it, he knows about all the magic, but since he's not from that world he can't actually do any of the magic, he knows all these obscure languages but they're kind of useless, he has no experience fighting but knows his way around all the dungeons because he was so addicted to the game.
Yeah if I was Isekai'd into Skyrim or something I probably wouldn't make it past Helgen, knowledge only gets you so far lmao
I'd acheive CHIM and beat the main quest with my eyes closed.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to once again meet in the Ragnarok video comment section once every 100 years when there is an upload 🙏
My great-grandpappy used to tell stories about these uploads. Never thought I’d live to see one myself!
On the bright side for Pleads-for-mercy, I imagine a Dragonbreak makes keeping track of debts difficult.
24:48 Imagine being a Warrior or Thief but dressing as a Mage to get enemies to waste spells like Silence on you as a trick.
I feel like castle Necromoghan is the way it is because it is supposed to be a secret fortress. The better question is "why does queen Mynisera simply not destroy the letters proving her husband's infidelity?" instead of maintaining a secret underground castle full of monsters guarding it.
Useful blackmail material, just in case?
when he said worst possible build I thought he meant the original daggerfall executable
Lol

I really like the implications of daedric artifacts breaking.
The corresponding daedric prince gives you the thing, but not forever. You can do with it what you want, but at some point it will return to it's prince.
In the manuals for both Daggerfall and Arena, it's stated that the artifacts either can be taken away by their associated deity basically on a whim, or have minds of their own and can abandon you of their own volition. That's basically the lore reason for these artifacts "breaking," they're just leaving because you overused them. Even in Morrowind, where this mechanic was dropped, the in-game book Tamrielic Lore mention artifacts like the Ice Blade of the Monarch, the Savior's Hide, and the Dragonbone Mail having a tendency to "wander" and change owners often.
I dont think I've ever bothered with the main quest in Daggerfall, I just like living a fantasy life in a random kingdom each play through
I thought I was going crazy but I showed someone else and they saw the same thing. I'm 41 minutes into the video and ever since he got the shield every time the character flashes on screen for a fraction of a milisecond I think he's just hella caked up like the "I'm sorry for having a fat ass and correct opinions on everything" meme
I really love the way the daedric artifacts work in Daggerfall. You have to actually summon the daedra, you need to either be a good mage or make a deal with witches, they're actually powerful character altering items, and the fact that they have special dates that you have to do the ritual thing on is so so cool. They just feel so much more special than they do in Oblivion and Skyrim. They're alright in Morrowind too.
A mage that can't do magic, high speed and personality...you made Rincewind!
A wizard who can't cast any spells, the Rincewind school of magic.
So what Nulfaga says there is
"How on Earth could a stray arrow ever pierce Lysandus's throat?
Was he given a proper funeral, or was he left to rot in the battlefield?
It's taking all I have to not end myself from this.
I've tried to summon his soul already, but he doesn't respond to the spell.
I'm losing my mind here."
Thats alot more put together than mine was
Ngl, this game looks impossible to navigate. But it is kinda fascinating.
I have never played Daggerfall but the character creator alone looks more fun than all of skyrim combined
Best character creation system in the series
Daggerfall (especially now that DF unity exists) is probably the best ES game if ALL you wanna do is crawl dungeons and build characters.
The Elder Scrolls is nuts when you realize it's all about giant robots. Daggerfall is about a power struggle over a giant robot. Morrowind is about a giant robot. Legit Mazinger Z style super robots that can defeat entire armies. And we barely ever see them. It's giant robots all the way down.
liberty prime in another world
21:24 "my son is dead? Are you serious? How did a arrow kill him? Did he have a funeral? i cant see his soul, where is it? im going to go insane"
My interpretation is closer to this.
"Why did someone shoot Lysander in the throat? Didn't people love him and mourn his passing or were everyone liars? I wish this sadness and pain in my heart would go away before I stab myself to end the suffering. I've looked everywhere but I can't find my son's soul. Oh my, I've gone insane."
I don’t see nearly enough Daggerfall around TH-cam. Thanks for this!
It's a similar amount of randomness in dungeons as it is on SPORE planets; the planet generator was hugely bugged for some seeds, but it was quicker to make a list of 'good' seeds rather than fix the generator, so while the distribution is more random, technically all were first generated during their respective developments.
Awesoem content man! I can't believe you don't have thousand more subscribers, that's only a matter of time, cheers from Brazil!
What's amazing about this video is that this proves knowledge is power. You have the worst possible build and yet you beat the game and even made it look easy, simply because you knew what to do.
The Magical career while being completely incapable of magic, the linguistic skills, the name about begging for mercy... You just literally made Lizard Rincewind, lol.
A lot of the story dungeons actually were not randomly generated, privateers hold included.
Daggerfall challenge run is something I’ve been wanting to see for a while now
"theory mage". absolutely amazing
The difficulty in Daggerfall isn't the combat, it's finding your way through the ridiculously oversized random dungeons for a piece of paper on the floor in a room six miles deep.
Don't forget when the goal is hidden behind a secret door, hidden behind a SECOND secret door, just a few feet from the entrance.
21:23 on UESP is says she gives one of 4 possible dialouges, in this one it seems like she's just saying "what could've compelled someone to kill lysandus, goddess? did he die with respect from his citizens/family, or was he forgotten/despised after death? I wish my heart would not be in so much pain, if it doesn't stop I might just cut it out of my chest. I've looked for the spirit/presence of my son in every plane of existence but still haven't found him, I feel like I'm going insane"
she specifically mentions the "afterworld, underworld" which sound like some sort of afterlife dimensions, and the world in between might be nirn which might explain why she can't find his spirit since hes trapped as a ghost in the physical world in the city of daggerfall and can't leave to see her
and also, apparently the 5 month deadline for that quest is bugged and you can wait to turn it in forever
Nulfaga can say one of four dialogues. The one you got means;
She knows that archers would have been useless on that field of battle, because she compelled the dragon Skakmat to lay a thick fog on the field, so she states incredulously that only a goddess could have aimed an arrow to kill him. Her 'pretty birdies' (probably) refers to her descendants, who were quick to crown Gothryd after his death and largely didn't seem very moved by the loss. The next sentence is a hint to the door and a statement of mourning, and the one after that a reference to his body not being interred where it is said to be, but in a secret tomb --although it could be argued that it's hinting at the Underking knowing the place. Last line just seems to be a statement of mourning.
There's another three dialogues she can have there, all of them containing the 'shut up' hint, a vague statement about how it shouldn't be possible for Lysandus to die to the arrow, a hint that his body is interred in a secret tomb, and something about Oblivion.
That 'OP' rant was entirely relatable..nothing like spamming Forbidden weaponry and chronic weaknesses to the least common damage types with high reflexes, so much XP bonuses.
There's a mod that corrects the outsides of dungeons to be more accurate to their name
One of dozens of mods I recommend
It's nice to see younger generations of players, who not only give a chance to really old games, but even try to master them.
This is my first real experience with Daggerfall. I imagine regular blind gameplay is just as cursed lol
Nulfaga used some poetic language but was quite easy to translate:
"Why would anyone kill my beloved, God! Did people like him or has everyone turned against him? Oh shut up, my heart, or I will kill you. I search (a list of worlds for the non-living) and can't find my son's 'energy'. Only madness can save me now."
And it makes sense that Lysandus would not be in any spirit realm since he's stayed behind as a vengeful ghost.
Underking ending is the only real ending to this game. They act like it's a whole dilemma, but the fact our second best option is the king of the necromancers really says all that needs to be said about the rulers of the Iliac Bay.
Man, what a run! definitely gonna stay around for more interesting runs like this one man.
Appreciate how you explained mechanics and things of the game (have never played myself, only watched videos), it shows that you really like/love the game
I can't really tell but I think the crazy woman is saying something like "What would compel the goddess to kill and punish Lysandus? When he died, did people mourn and love him, or were his companions liars? I wish I didn't feel this way. I can't find my son no matter where I look, as if he never existed."
I expected nothing much when I clicked on this video but I was more than pleasantly. Very entertaining watch
I liked to take hand to hand, thaumaturgy, and the rest as languages for my class. Diplomat. I'd run around without my weapon out and many creatures would not attack me. Traveling only one day and hitting up a town to chat with the folks a bit would let me level up ettiquette, blunt, running, jumping, and a practice spell.
First mistake, the two major skills and one minor skill that count towards levelling up are the highest in level, not position. So if the skill in the thirds major slot is higher than either of the two above it, it will be the one that counts.
i have a feeling this character is descended from trouble-finder
Making yourself weaker to have a challenge is literally some eldritch god pastime power move/flex
Pleads-for-mercy is literally me.
You can actually become a full fledged mage without being able to cast any magic. Enchanted items exist, and you can level magic through them. So entering magic guild, gaining ranks are possible.
P.s.: Oh you actually mention about it in the video. :D
P.s.s.: Also you forgot another thing, that can make game harder. Inability to use plate armor.
Super fun video! Pleads-for-life is a perfect name
Now here's an actual challenge video
Impressive work!
Great video man!
great vid, would like to s more daggerfall/morrowind/oblivion content similar to this
We love Ragnarok ❤
Our Argonian is very… “special” …
More videos like this please. Daggerfall content is too few around here
Very good video!!
Don't rag on my babies, the Argonians :,(
The only Elder Scrolls game i ever played was Skyrim! But im still fascinated by the previous games. It looks so cool
Translation of what the lady said:
Gods, how could you kill Lysandus? What possible reason could you have?
Was he mourned by his subjects or betrayed and hated?
My grief threatens to kill me.
I have searched the ends of creation for my son.
I am driving myself mad with my grief.
We need more darggerfall videos ❤❤
As someone so knowledgeable about the games systems and features your should make a beginners guide to the game.
just use UESP like a normal person. way too much to get across in a video
@@TuorTheBlessedOfUlmowould have to be a video series due to how much there is to go over in this game.
Probably 6 videos at least.
Pleads-For-Mercy is absolutely a character I would write and I will, in fact, shamelessly jot this down so I won't forget to do so whenever I get around to it. An absolute genius and master of his craft that can't actually engage with any of it personally due to his body being an inverse of his genius to the point where his handwriting is barely even legible.
I strogly recommend "The color of magic" by Terry Pratchett. Pleads-for-Mercy is basically the main character "Rincewind"
Cool playthrough
I have a challenge suggestion for you that may also be a "weak" challenge, though it does involve mods.
SWINDLER CHALLENGE
Use Language Skills Overhaul (Nexus 257) so you can turn pacified enemies into companions.
Every Primary, Major and Minor skill must be the Language skills in whichever order you choose (Including Etiquette, Streetwise, Mercantile).
Basic Magicka Regen is added to allow NPCs to also recover Magicka. Tweak settings as you wish.
Otherwise play as normal.
I'll have to look into modding! I'm sure there are plenty of interesting things to be done with them in Daggerfall Unity.
@@Ragnarok311 The one I suggested is a simple install for Unity.
I look forward to it
@@Ragnarok311the mod support for this game is insane. With mods it's hands down the best TES game ever made.
Excellent video, I had recently looked for daggerfall content and couldn't find much. I'd love a more in depth character creation in a modern Elder Scrolls.
You very much misunderstand the pain of having bad speed
this is true. I may try to "improve" on this in the future! I won't lie though, I don't think I'd look forward to being level 10 with 50 hp again
@@Ragnarok311 without being able to dodge.
Pleads-for-mercy is so me
"He is so pathetic that people have pity on him."
Oh hey, I must have a really high Personality score in real life. :^)
OH 800g! like gold. Man I thought one of the test results was just "goog" like wtf
Now I wanna see this game done... right...
Done well, done excellent, or just done OP.
And if there's many ways to do it, then I'd like to see atleast a Mage, Fighter and potentially a Diplomatic Build.
this was a good video.
I love it when TH-cam recommends me all the newest Elder Scrolls challenge run videos
For a comparison, how about a run where you make a character that is as OP as possible?
32:34 can’t you get a repair equipment enchantment from the blob daedra with the book?
Its worse than you thought not only are the languages generally terrible dragonish should have been removed the dragons never made it in the game
Agility and Willpower don't really affect much, since all the checks in Daggerfall are made by 'rolling' a d100. So a -4 to hit/evade/resist spells isn't actually that much, being equivalent to a few percent lower hit rate/evasion rate/spell resistance. Speed, Endurance and Strenght are the most important stats and I'd say you could make a miserable character to play by making your speed as low as possible, since it affects how fast you swing your weapons. With very low speed, you would swing your weapons at a snail's pace, making every encounter last longer, and so, riskier to die. I would also make Strenght stat low, again, to make sure killing enemies takes as long as possible, not to mention lowering your encumbrance.
hell yeah
YOO THE HEALING IS OP EARLY THIS IS CAP. however sick build but yea disease resist is a better nerf than shock
Im glad youtube's algoirthm is recommending good shit now
Godbless the Algorithm. Fantastic video and funnier than shit too. Subscribed for future content 🤝
Agility doesn't really contribute much to hit chance, dumping speed and strength would probably make for a worse character
Why’d you level magic if you can’t cast spells?
Nice vid
Nice video bro this shit rocks
Cool channel dude.
This is the first playthrough of daggerfall I have ever seen. I can see why nobody talks about this game but at the same time, very unique and interesting in its own right
I'll be honest, with a couple of mods using Daggerfall Unity (well I say a couple but it's a bunch really) the game can get very interesting. The problem the game has resides, at least to me, mostly in the endgame, as things become very repetitive and you just become so strong that enemy encounters don't even matter anymore. One of my more challenging runs was running a khajiit acrobat, I was originally just doing it to test something but I had such a hard time getting anything done I decided to stick through it. I definitely recommend not min-maxing in this game because the fun factor severely diminishes the stronger you get.
Yet you ARE using Longswords, one of the best weapon types in the game.
Clearly you messed up trying to use bows. Which are GREAT just GREAT trust me
Why put the last magic skill as minor instead of major?
Because I wanted to use it to level!
Your overall character level is determined by your 3 Primary Skills, your 2 highest level Major Skills, and your highest level Minor Skill.
So say we chose Restoration, Thaumaturgy AND Mysticism as Major Skills. Say Restoration and Thaumaturgy are both level 50, and Mysticism is level 30.
Leveling Mysticism at that point doesn't improve your overall character level.
As such, I put it as a Minor Skill, since it would be the only one gaining levels there, which would make it contribute to our character level as it would be our highest level Minor Skill.
dont stop man
When bethesda games weren't dog-poop. There is no excuse for rpgs being streamlined, morrowind had a good xbox port. But the 360 meant oblivion had to be 'streamlined' for 'casual' players that don't want to sit down and learn how to play a game. I miss old bethesda.
Generic comment for the algorithm.
