Thanks! Your Accent made Bald Eagle sound like Bold Eagle. That dog looked phallic, surprised Emma didn't pick up on it. A door mat (not Alex) might be on the shopping list. Don't wear shorts and open sandals when walking through unfamilliar undergrowth, stay safe, oh buy some Deet for the mozzies, well to keep them away. Joss sticks, you hippies!
I've been to a few places where the sunset gets an ovation. I've entertained the idea that when I move back to Atlantic City that I start a trend where people applaud the sun rising. Its a way of expressing gratitude for having another day of life. 🙏
Table tip: check thrift stores (or Walmart/Target/Big Lots etc) for what we call "tv trays" - they're just small folding tables meant for eating dinner while watching TV in the living room. We have two in our van instead of any sort of formal fitted table, and they're endlessly useful for all kinds of things, including outside on the campsite. We're so excited to watch your adventure unfold!
The stereotype at sunset absolutely had me laughing. As an American, I never tire of seeing a chipmunk. They seem much more rare than a squirrel and I'm always enchanted when one crosses my path in my local park. I'm so inspired by your camper van journey. I hope I can do it one day myself.
Those little chipmunks are adorable....and pesky. If they spend any time under your "bonnet" they can cause issues with your wiring. Here's to your life on the road!
That sunset clap on command was hilarious! People in America really do clap a lot more than us Brits! Another great video guys! I'm so happy that you've settled into your new camper!
I don’t know why we’re such an ebullient people but there’s nothing quite like so many different people who happen to gather together in a place and spontaneously and joyously celebrate the occasion.
Love your enthusiastic embracing your new adventures of exploring America! I really do thoroughly empathize with you because I feel just the same when I’m visiting England! It is always and every time an amazing experience when you set out to explore another country that you’ve read about a dreamed about traveling to, and then when you get there it exceeds all expectations! I enthusiastically suggest you visit the Pacific Northwest in Washington State, especially since you both love wildlife and the outdoors so much. I believe you will truly be enraptured with the wonderful wild beauties of the Cascade Mountains, the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound, the beaches along the Pacific Coast, Olympic Peninsula and Rainforest, and the many spectacular views and trails and campgrounds of all of these places. You will fall in love with Washington, just as I fell in love with the Lake District and the Cotswolds and Wales and the British people. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧.
Some of the newbies like me came for the Van fire because of the algorithm but stayed because you guys are absolutely adorable, charming and fun! Blessings from Ontario, Canada. P.S - Don't forget to travel here some day! SO much wildlife and beauty 🇨🇦 Ontario has 200,000 lakes and so much forest. You'd love it.
Get a thick door mat with to drop outside the door to scrub off your shoes 👞 👟 when in dirty/sandy areas to keep down the cleaning and mess in the van! They also make a narrow block style boot scrubber for about $20 that not only cleans off the bottoms and in the treads but also the sides as well and would be easy to store in the doorway step when traveling!
The best and most relaxing part of camping (IMO) is a sitting outside watching the sun come up while sipping a hot cup of coffee. People aren't up yet, and if you sit still you can see so many birds and other animals. So calming.
Get a sticky lint pickup roller for crumbs in the bed. To prevent bringing sand inside is a small floor mat at your door and a shaker container of baby powder. Simply sprinkle it on your bare feet and legs and the sand will brush right off, then you'll be comfortable. Love that you're traversing the USA. There is SO much to see!
I rarely comment on TH-cam videos, but I really wanted to say how pleased I am that it's all turned out fab for you both. Also, you absolutely crack me up with your banter, comments and enthusiasm for everything. Enjoy your time in the US and keep having fun x

This Travel Beans video is among my all time favorites! The happy glow on both of your faces brought tears to my eyes…and yes - in true American form I clapped with sheer enjoyment that your first night in phoenix was a success and that you reached 250K! Well done, you all deserve the very best! BTW - I also grinned from ear to ear that Alex is finally starting to appreciate a few American food/cultural experiences. I can tell you are warming up to us boisterous Americans, Alex!! Just steer clear of mcD’s!
I absolutely adore you two. Wonderful up beat attitudes, joyous, and carrying the spirit of "the ever adventuresome travler". So happy a nightmare one day was an event that brought blessings!!! Phoenix is beautiful and you couldn't have chosen a more apropo name. Much love & blessings to you each..
Congratulations on your 250k subscribers. The Phoenix is great. Also one of my favorite states are Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona. The black squirrels 🐿 are all over the US. As a French expat I can conquer that Americans are a lot more joyful than my Countrymen. My hubby is a lot jollier than my cousins and uncles. My dad was the exception. He was the life of the party. Enjoy your camper van 🚐. Come to South Florida on one of your trips and we will show you around. 🤗☺️🙏
I swear, even before you said it, i knew people would either "woo-hoo" or clap the sunset. I, as a Texan-American would most definitely have been the sterotype--and gladly so. This beginning to your adventure is simply a joy to watch!! God bless your journey
Hey y'all!!! My wife, Susan and I LOVE your new van!!! We want one just like it! I have a couple of ideas for you to consider. 1. For a table up front in the van.... Use your existing table top and pole. Go to a Camper Store and have them cut a hole and install a similar shroud to what you currently have in the back that the pole fits into! 2. Travel ideas. OUTER BANKS of North Carolina. Gorgeous beaches and the Wright Bros. Museum (where they fly the first airplane) is there, too! 3. Another Travel Idea... the state of Maine. (just not Portland, Maine). Go farther North to towns like Brunswick, Bath, Wiscasset, or Sprucehead Island and try the Lobsters and other abundant seafood! It's just gorgeous up there!
It's so lovely to see Michigan from your point of view. I can't wait to see what other areas you visit (I assume Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore made your cut...). As a Michigander, I do wish to caution you: the great lakes are mighty and beautiful and not at all like regular lakes. They can have dangerously strong currents and riptides so please enjoy with caution and pay attention to any water warnings as you enjoy all the beautiful sites here. 💜
After Frank, I’m so glad to see you both so happy in the U.S. again. And Phoenix is a good name. Love that Alex is so into seeing squirrels and chipmunks. And so happy to see Emma in love with the new van. Looking forward to seeing more of your U.S. travels. Best of luck for the next couple of months.
Glad you love seeing the wildlife! Has anyone warned you about ticks when you walk around in plant life? Always check yourselves and know how to safely remove them to avoid daunting Lyme disease. Happy travels!!
My heart over flows with happiness for you two!!!!! I know Frank disaster was so scary, but Phoenix is going to be so much easier, no renovations it’s safe and ready to go, more time to travel and enjoy yourselves!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖~Cara
I second Emma in the sand frustrations! I always brush my feet before bed even just at home. Nothing worse than rolling around in a bed of grit 😂 - Jenny
Phoenix seems like a wonderful new addition to the Bean adventure family. I love how cozy and bright she is. Please come to Western Washington during your travels. Side note: How in the world does Emma always look so fantastic, even when “roughing it”?? Her gorgeous hair could have its own instagram, lol 😂.
Dont Forget in Startrek Next Generation Phoenix was also the name of a Starship that The Enterprise had to hunt down after its Captain went mad and began Killing Cardassians that episode seemed scary imagine hunting down somebody u knew as Friends but somehow they go insane
I'm so glad that you're enjoying Michigan. It really is full of natural wonders. You may very well see bears in the UP. Just a heads up, though. September 3,4, and 5 are Labor Day weekend. This is a national holiday three day weekend. Campgrounds will be full. Make reservations as soon as possible, or you may have to spend a few nights in Wal-Mart parking lots.
At around 10:50 he says the funniest thing... " I didn't realize they released a new version"... great video guys love watching your adventures. Nice van! Check out glacier national park before it gets cold in Montana. That's beautiful!!!
This episode had us smiling ear to ear with Joy. So So Happy for you both. And yes, our offer to host you in Biloxi Mississippi still holds😃 You can use our beach house and park in the back yard with rear street access. Sending Best Wishes and Blessings, James and Kim ❤️
We also live on the Gulf coast of Mississippi and are Boondocker Welcome hosts, so you are welcome here anytime. We have a nice lake across the street from our home and have 2 kayaks and a paddle board you are welcome to use. As far as things you should get for your new to you camper van, you should get a surge protector. Before plugging into the power pedestal make sure the breaker is off, plug the surge protector in then turn on the breaker. Let it perform it’s test on the pedestal. If everything checks ok , turn the breaker back off then plug your cord into the surge protector then turn the breaker back on. You are now safe to use the power. It will protect your rig from many issues that could damage your electronic in your rig. They are not cheap, but neither is have to repair your rigs electrical system. You should also get a water pressure regulator (the one with the gauge is better) to protect your water lines from over pressure damaging your water lines. Also an in-line water filter for when you hook up to campground water faucets. You should look into joining Harvest Host/Boondockers Welcome so you have other choices of places to stay for free or very cheaply. Good luck and safe travels with Phoenix. We are Rambling Rovers Base on Boondockers Welcome
Just so happy for you that you are starting your US camper van journey - finally! Besides black squirrels, there are white squirrels in the US but rare. Certain cities and towns are known for their large population of white squirrels, including Brevard, North Carolina; Marionville, Missouri; Olney, Illinois; Kenton, Tennessee; and Exeter, Ontario. I'd never seen them myself until I went to Marionville, MO.
And, for those who have never seen or heard of white squirrels -- just to be clear: these are *not* albinos. They are squirrels like any other, except with white hair. And they are lovely. (We very occasionally used to see them in Hendersonville, North Carolina, but they're growing more rare, alas.)
Phoenix is the perfect name for so many reasons. I am so happy for you. Congratulations! I never get tired of seeing squirrels either. We only have one or 2 that are usually in our yard most of the time. HUGS
When I would take my son camping in our tent there were chipmunks everywhere, and they root through all your stuff because they look for food. I always made cookies or brownies etc. to take and one night we forgot to take them in the tent and the next morning they had eaten right through the Tupperware containers and devoured all our goodies. Chipmunks are cute but very sneaky. Snakes are my biggest fear when camping.
Glad you folks are loving Michigan so far. I hope you get a chance to explore more of the lakes. If you visit some of the State Forest Campgrounds you'll get more wildlife. Saturday and Sunday I had a beaver swimming past me every morning, and a loon calling in the night.
Great start to many more exciting "Travel Beans" adventures. It will interesting to find out which states you guys like the most. Since being retired for just over a year, we have done more traveling abroad in search of our roots and haven't given the US much thought for travel. We just recently purchased a 30 foot travel trailer so we can start exploring in our own back yard. Living in the Pacific NW we are surrounded by many many areas to camp and explore, but are looking forward to expanding our adventures. Maybe we'll run into each other during our travels. Looking forward to next weeks episode. Safe and Happy travels.
I'm with Emma! I hate crumbs, sand, little bits in my bed. My cat is notorious for getting bits of litter in my bed in the camper. Drives me crazy!! She's been warned. But she's so cute watching everything from the dashboard and windows of my camper, I can't really stay mad at her.
Good Morning Alex and Emma What a Great video super happy for you both listen you might want to take a tour to The Automotive section of the Local Walmart and get your self a Floor runner that's a cover that goes over the floor that way you don't have to get dust and dirt every where and it takes a Broom or a vacuum to get it clean ( I think you should start your Great American Road Trip here in Mt )
we are SO HAPPY for you guys!!! What a journey it's been, I truly believe everything happens for a reason, so glad it all worked out - the bed looks so spacious!
Hoffmaster was a huge part of my childhood! Almost emotional watching this video, especially when you walked past what we called the lagoon, where the river played behind the beach for a bit before joining the lake. So badly need to get back there, but at least I can live vicariously through your enjoyment of that fine facility! 😍😍😍😍
A recommendation, get a surge protector to put between your power cord and the electric supply. Some of the sites will have "dirty" power that can damage the systems in your van. And if you have a black water tank, read up on black water tank management. Let it get mostly full before dumping and then add some water back in after it's dumped and flushed. The sloshing while driving will help keep from getting Gunk stuck to the bottom of your tank.
I waitresses at a Tea Room in Sandwich Ma. and we had a covered out door patio and we had a family of “Chippys” that ran the room lol. We learned to dodge them and they are feet while we carried heavy trays but it worked . The customers loved them ,well mostly,😊
I'm so glad you're loving Michigan! It's my forever home! After the UP, you can make your way into Wisconsin. Door County (the part that sticks out into the lake) is beautiful. Milwaukee and Madison are fun cities and the Wisconsin Dells are spectacular. Stay safe!
@@tootsieb11 It stands for "Upper Peninsula." There is a peninsula of land that is part of Michigan that is above Wisconsin on the east side of the state, and we call it "the UP." (I'm a Wisconsinite)
I could feel your joy if staying in your camper for the first night!!! Emma, I can totally relate to the sand/crumbs/grit in the bed thing, I just can't sleep if I can feel it! Better to be sleeping on the beach on a pile of sand than a few grains on the sheets! Alex, I'd be just excited to spot the squirrels and chipmunks, they are so cute and I didn't know there were black ones either! 🤯🖤 Can't wait until next Tuesday morning (your Monday)!!! 💚
Congrats on your first night. A tip for sand removal- apply baby powder anywhere you get sand and it will dust off easily before entering the camper. Good luck
Glad things are going well with you guys. I love the comment about being an animal lover and being excited about seeing a squirrel the last time the wife and I went camping I spotted a jet black squirrel and spent 2 days trying to get a picture of him for my adult kids. Good luck on the visa, does that mean dual citizenship?
Thank you two so much for giving me 20 minutes of making my heart ❤️ smile !!! It has been a rough day health wise BUT I feel nothing but joy when I’m with you two (and the chipmunks 🐿)🙂
So happy you have a new vacation home in the US! I grew up on Lake Michigan and it will always be my favorite! If PA ends up on your list- I love camping in the Allegheny National Forest (lots of campgrounds, but Dewdrop is my favorite- right on a beautiful reservoir and easy access to hiking trails). Warren nearby has a couple of fun breweries.
I am american and I never clapped for a sunrise or sunset but you know what I think that is a pretty cool tradition I think I might start clapping ...why not mother nature is pretty amazing and puts a spectacular show better then any human could
I've never seen a black squirrel so thanks for sharing. this was amazing fun filled video, so nice to see you both so happy and excited to start this adventure 😃 would you ever consider 2 videos a week?
Growing up on the Great lakes ....you have to go jump into them and go for a swim.... And then go back at dusk and go for a swim as the sun goes down..... beautiful.....
Awwhh when Alex said he's looking at his dream! Mega happy for you both and looking forward to many more episodes of your American adventures. Hugs to you both from UK xx
It is very nice that someone reached out to help you buy a camper van. I hope to find one soon myself. I was born in michigan, and have been to 30 states currently. I have also lived in 4 of them, and never seen; or heard of people cheering when the sun finished setting behind the horizon. I would expect it when children are involved to keep them entertained, and excited so they won't get grumpy or cry. Anything to keep a kid happy, and away from being bored, because they will scream, and cry otherwise since kids can't just live in the moment, and be a human without a phone should be a stereo type. Oh, and the black squirrels: squirrel color 3.0 apparently. Good find! lol
"Greetings from a fellow Michigander" Welcome. So excited for you both on your New Camper Van and your first stay in it. here in Michigan. There is so much to see and do, but whatever you decide on, hoping it will be an outstanding adventure for you both. Thank you for great videos and can't wait for more.
Ooooo. I have been waiting for soooo long for this series!!!! Good luck Beans!!! Can't wait to see all the shenanigans y'all get into along the way!! Hope to maybe run into you along the way!!
Also white. Saw them in a park in Cape Town. White and friendly squirrels. Just joined and watched your latest two vlogs. Thoroughly enjoyed your presenting. Looking forward to more in future.
I’ve been so excited for this video!! I was secretly hoping you might do 2 videos a week on the US road trip a week seems so long to wait for the next instalment it’s just too damn good xx
Oh you two, you have made me so homesick. I was born and raised in Michigan. We spent every summer camping along Lake Michigan. That was 50 or so years ago. I will enjoy watching your journey up to the UP. Every state has it's natural beauty but none can compare to Michigan and the Great Lakes.
Have you tried Mighty Travels Premium yet?

And, for those who have never seen or heard of white squirrels -- just to be clear: these are *not* albinos. They are squirrels like any other, except with white hair. And they are lovely. (We very occasionally used to see them in Hendersonville, North Carolina, but they're growing more rare, alas.)
Finished watching now…Now don’t just stand there…Applaud!
Phoenix is the perfect name for so many reasons. I am so happy for you. Congratulations!
I never get tired of seeing squirrels either. We only have one or 2 that are usually in our yard most of the time. HUGS
❤️🙏
When I would take my son camping in our tent there were chipmunks everywhere, and they root through all your stuff because they look for food. I always made cookies or brownies etc. to take and one night we forgot to take them in the tent and the next morning they had eaten right through the Tupperware containers and devoured all our goodies. Chipmunks are cute but very sneaky. Snakes are my biggest fear when camping.
The sunset clap completely cracked me up :) You guys look so happy and the new camper looks amazing . Peace & love Moll & John xx
Baby powder is great for getting sand off before getting in the van!
Glad you folks are loving Michigan so far. I hope you get a chance to explore more of the lakes.
If you visit some of the State Forest Campgrounds you'll get more wildlife. Saturday and Sunday I had a beaver swimming past me every morning, and a loon calling in the night.
Keep a bucket of water and a towel next to the door so you can rinse your feed
Great start to many more exciting "Travel Beans" adventures. It will interesting to find out which states you guys like the most. Since being retired for just over a year, we have done more traveling abroad in search of our roots and haven't given the US much thought for travel. We just recently purchased a 30 foot travel trailer so we can start exploring in our own back yard. Living in the Pacific NW we are surrounded by many many areas to camp and explore, but are looking forward to expanding our adventures. Maybe we'll run into each other during our travels. Looking forward to next weeks episode. Safe and Happy travels.
CARAVAN
what a dream!
Thank You Both For Having Us🚐💜👣🚐🦋😊🚐
we are SO HAPPY for you guys!!! What a journey it's been, I truly believe everything happens for a reason, so glad it all worked out - the bed looks so spacious!
Welcome, have a good time! Black squirrels are prevalent in Kent, Ohio, where I am from. I'm so happy you saw one in Michigan! Happy Trails!
This video makes me so happy for you both. I found myself smiling while watching. Can’t wait for what’s next.
Hoffmaster was a huge part of my childhood! Almost emotional watching this video, especially when you walked past what we called the lagoon, where the river played behind the beach for a bit before joining the lake. So badly need to get back there, but at least I can live vicariously through your enjoyment of that fine facility! 😍😍😍😍
I love hoffmaster!! We went there almost every year because it was close to home. And my elementary school would go to the nature center every year.

What a gorgeous first night in the van. I am so excited for you for more adventures in Phoenix!
SO great to see you both smiling and grinning! Wonderful start to the two month U.S. tour! 😎
I waitresses at a Tea Room in Sandwich Ma. and we had a covered out door patio and we had a family of “Chippys” that ran the room lol. We learned to dodge them and they are feet while we carried heavy trays but it worked . The customers loved them ,well mostly,😊
Great name. Great van! I love a happy ending/new beginning. Have fun guys!
Thank you! 🙏😊
I’m so happy for you both

I'm so glad you're loving Michigan! It's my forever home! After the UP, you can make your way into Wisconsin. Door County (the part that sticks out into the lake) is beautiful. Milwaukee and Madison are fun cities and the Wisconsin Dells are spectacular. Stay safe!
Sorry but I'm in the UK.. what is the UP?
@@tootsieb11 It stands for "Upper Peninsula." There is a peninsula of land that is part of Michigan that is above Wisconsin on the east side of the state, and we call it "the UP." (I'm a Wisconsinite)
@@pattysheldon656 that's so right! BTW, for Ruth and others, it's the you-p, and those who live there are Yoopers.
@@pattysheldon656 thanks x
@@emilyserafamanschot800 Yoopers.. wow.. thanks x
I love sunsets. They’ve always been my favorite. 👍👍
Good luck
So happy for you both, Phoenix is a perfect name. Can’t wait to come on your journey, you warriors xx Safe travels ❤️❤️
I am so happy for you guys living your dream finally in the states. Happy trails many more.😊
Glad things are going well with you guys. I love the comment about being an animal lover and being excited about seeing a squirrel the last time the wife and I went camping I spotted a jet black squirrel and spent 2 days trying to get a picture of him for my adult kids. Good luck on the visa, does that mean dual citizenship?
no it's just a visa, american citizenship is hard and would take years
Beautiful place Beautiful van Beautiful smiles on your faces 😎😏👌 enjoy
Thank you two so much for giving me 20 minutes of making my heart ❤️ smile !!! It has been a rough day health wise BUT I feel nothing but joy when I’m with you two
(and the chipmunks 🐿)🙂
Starr Man - Just independently, but I hope you the best. Carry on.
I love the van it’s beautiful and comfy. Can’t wait to the states through your eyes. 🍿
Perfect recommendation!! Red Bridge cg is great too!
(Franklin, PA here)
I am american and I never clapped for a sunrise or sunset but you know what I think that is a pretty cool tradition I think I might start clapping ...why not mother nature is pretty amazing and puts a spectacular show better then any human could
I've never seen a black squirrel so thanks for sharing. this was amazing fun filled video, so nice to see you both so happy and excited to start this adventure 😃 would you ever consider 2 videos a week?
Growing up on the Great lakes ....you have to go jump into them and go for a swim.... And then go back at dusk and go for a swim as the sun goes down..... beautiful.....
Awwhh when Alex said he's looking at his dream! Mega happy for you both and looking forward to many more episodes of your American adventures. Hugs to you both from UK xx
B2 !!! for 10 years!!! 6/6 the dream !!!
Amazing and long life to you the phoenixes ;)
I’m so happy for you guys. It was great to see how happy Phoenix has made you. Many awesome adventures await.
Good find! lol
So pleased for you both. The van is amazing. You’re living the dream, keep going, keep enjoying, stay safe
Black squirrels are the norm in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Even the pub (no longer there) was named after them.
Yes, Phoenix It Is❣️😊💕🦋👣
Take two! Great to see you guys back behind the wheel & enjoying your first night in Phoenix. Can't wait to follow your adventures in the USA again!
Very happy for you both. It was heartbreaking watching Frank burn down.
