      I’m interested in where Atlanta would end up in those rankings. Would their good (not great, but still good) offensive line pull up their bad defensive line in the rankings, or would their bad defensive line pull down their good offensive line in the rankings?

      Is there any specific reason why those two would be lumped together rather than separately? It’s like ranking every team’s combined receiving core+secondary. It’s just a weird way to combine them. I think an individual O-Line and D-Line ranking would be way more informative and relevant.

    I don't put blame on a GM's first draft on them. They get in the building Jan/Feb and draft in April, when scouting takes months if not a year. Not to mention a lot of new GM's have the job of cleaning up bad contracts that got the previous GM fired. A GM that can get them out of a hole after year 2 or 3 and not just survive but thrive grades a letter or two higher than what their surface history shows.

    Vikings at C is a joke. Draft isn't everything, and still excluding 2022 kwesi has been fine in the draft (consider it a rookie mistake). Look at free agent signings and coaching hires. There is a reason they are 9-2, and it isn't completely luck. B tier FO at worst. They have been great since the FO turnover, just need to see some playoff success and its an A.

      Jack Campbell plays like a good starter you can accept but Don necessarily love. Same with jahmyr gibbs
      That's the problem with those picks
      You need PRO BOWL level production a franchise cornerstone with a top 25 pick
      Jahmyr is a guy your happy at 30 to 50 range because he is like a 20 to 30 guy
      Jack Campbell is a guy you want in the mid second round
      Detroit drafts good but they are overpaying for these picks when they could have had more from the Stafford trade
      This is the reason your a groomsman or bridesmaid n NEVER the ELITE tier like the eagles ravens bills n chiefs and the 49ers/buccaneers n packers of years ago
      Your doing the right things but you have TO DO GREAT n innovative things to GET the Lombardi and good job isn't enough to reach the super bowl anymore

      @@nautgamingnautgaming9949Gibbs literally made the pro bowl as a rookie 😂 and Campbell was a major position of need. His progress from year 1 to 2 is showing that he could be worth that draft pick. His improvement in coverage specifically is part of the reason the Lions pass defense has improved so much this season. He’s been the best LB overall in that draft, and imagine what the Lions LB room would look like right now without him.
      And by the way, the Lions are 100% elite tier. What are you smoking? By DVOA since they started tracking it in 1979 or whatever that was this team is top 5 all time.

    this was very good, i think the question brought up by the cowboys about ownership is super valid. I would say that since the ranking is "front office" and not "GM" you need to consider ownership. If the owner is tight on the purse strings or has other defects that can be a real factor in offseason efficacy.

  • @qdahdrummer
    @qdahdrummer หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Bengals grade is tough but I think fair. It’s definitely an old school front office that is handicapped by ownership that doesn’t want to give out a lot of guaranteed money to players. Forces them to hit on draft picks which they just have not done.

    • @DaveCompton5150
      @DaveCompton5150 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Bengals have a good front office, but a cheap owner. They drafted a good team in the mid-2010s, then they decided to let Marvin Jones and Mohamad Sanu leave in free agency the same year. Both had many good years afterwards, especially Jones. This led to the John Ross disaster.
      Same with Bates, didn't want to pay...he left and has played great for the Falcons....draft picks and free agent money have been wasted trying to replace.
      I give the front office a B.....the ownership a D-.

    TE gets hurt upgrades withs Hockenson
    Darrisaw get hurt gets a starting level LT in Cam Robinson to replace
    Blackmon goes to IR get Gilmore to replace him
    looks for upgrades before and even during the season
    2nd RB not playing well go gets Akers for a 2nd year in a row to replace him
    DIdnt cave to Kirk cousins stupid demands, gets a Starting level QB performance for 10 mill cap hit.
    upgrades RB as soon as GB messes up and release Jones
    Free agency with cap space (thanks for saying no to kirk KAM)
    replaces an Elite Edge in Hunter with Greenard (having a career year) AVG (unrated high end Edge)
    and simply put if the Bears the Freaking Bears who just fired their HC after letting him address the media is a B than the vikings FO who will have 2 out 3 seasons with a winning record if a B at minimum because at the end of the day winning is all that matters in the NFL

    RE: Rick Spielman. As a Vikings fan, I still have a lot of love for Rick. But he needed to go. If you go back in the drafts, he had an all-time draft in 2015 and sort of rode that high until he was let go. Yes, he had JJ fall into his lap in 2020, and he made the right move. But if you look at all the defensive players he drafted from 2016 until he was let go, none of them panned out. We were constantly misfiring on DBs, whether it was Trae Waynes (who was fine but not worth a top ten pick), Mike Hughes, or Jeff Gladney (rest in peace). He struggled to identify good defensive talent. I agree with the Kwesi ranking, where he is looking hit and miss on drafts, mostly miss. But in FA Kwesi is as good as they come. Also on Mekhi Blackmon, he was terrific as a rookie then tore his ACL in camp. He was looking fantastic.

    I think B is solid for the Broncos. The Russ trade really holds it back a bit, but the current grouping of guys in the FO figured a way to get rid of him and still be competitive brings it back up to a B.

    Love EDC as a GM, always seems to land at least 2 starters in every draft, doesn't really make big mistakes in FA (Earl Thomas being the only real one) and he's a master of trades, got Marcus Peters for very little, he was awesome pre-ACL tear, Calais Campbell got him for nothing and he was awesome, Roquan for a 2nd, was a steal, sending out Marquise Brown for a 1st was insane value. In my opinion, he's the 3rd best GM in the league behind Veach and Roseman

    Gute swings heavy at the plate in round 1. When he hits, it’s out the park. But he’s certainly prone to being struck down and whiffing at the ball. Taking Meyers over Humphrey was bad. Taking Quay over Trent McDuffie was horrid. But we’ve also gotten one of the most talented gunslingers in football, an All Pro caliber CB and an at times dominate player in Gary. This most recent draft class is looking very solid with guys like Bullard, Cooper, Morgan should contribute in the future as he’s too talented and the most underrated pick of the 2024 draft in Evan Williams. Gute struck pure gold in 33.

    Greatly disagree with Ballard that high. He'll probably be fired after this season. 8 years and only 1 playoff win to show for it. Took forever to finally draft a QB, kept throwing old QB bandaids on it. His HC's have never panned out. He HAS been very good in the draft. But he's failed to better the team via FA, consistently leaves big holes on the roster because he won't spend the money. We'll never know who was behind controlling the AR situation between him, Steichen, or Irsay (I would imagine the latter) but it was a disaster and an embarrassment how it was handled.
    There's been no real culture here during his time as GM and it's time to move on. If he could just handle draft responsibilities he'd be great.

    Mekhi is also a hit for us. Sadly he tore his ACL in the start of training camp but last year he was really good. And at least Kwesi has bit the bullet on his misses (see 2022).

  • @davidsettles2920
    @davidsettles2920 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the reason you don't see Ballard making trades and spending in FA is because he knows the Colts aren't in "win now" mode. They're in " wait-and-see AR's development" mode, so he's not making those moves you see those "win now" teams making. That said, I think if AR starts to become more consistent in addition to the flashes we're seeing from him, you'll start to see him make those moves like when he signed Stephon Gilmore in FA in 2022 (we all know how that year went).
    I see it as a wise move to keep cap space in reserve and not trade away players/picks to maintain flexibility for the future.

    You're wrong about the Packers GM not making moves. In 2019 he went out and got Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, and Zadarius Smith. Like those free agents turned the team around into 3 straight 13 win teams. He absolutely made big splash moves to load the team up for deep playoff moves.
    If you're asking why he didnt sell the farm, because a lot of times it dosent work, and then the team is screwed. Look at the Saints since 2018

    The Bills might be one of the best front offices in the NFL at trades, cap management and mid to late round drafting, and one of the worst at early round drafting. If they could find just one first round star, they'd be in a totally different position. Instead they just keep making due with developing good players and system players. It means they have a deep well rounded roster, but they keep lacking that one big play

    Ranking front offices is kind of like evaluating a team's offense. You can see the results on the field, and there are some places where you can clearly call out mistakes or poor performance, but you don't really know what the play call was and how they coach it. Maybe the receivers ran bad routes because that's exactly how it's called and coached. Maybe the QB starts his progression on the wrong side of the field because that's what he's told to do. And for front office, maybe they trade for Watson because the owner told them to, and they executed that terrible decision perfectly.

    I've been saying this for a while with the Cowboys, and I'm a vikings fan, but I think ESPN is extra critical of them because of how big their market it, like I always thought that drafted pretty good, but when you dig deep on the last couple of years I was even more surprised how good they actually did draft. I thought converting Micah to a pass rusher was also a really good move to.

    The draft is only part of what makes GB a good front office. They know when to let guys walk a year before they fall off. The decision to let Rodgers walk and move on with Love was gold for the long term success of the franchise. Signing McKinney and Jacobs this off-season. There's a reason GB has been CONSISTENTLY a contender for 30+ years with only about 2 down years. ELITE front office.

    As a Pats fan, I was pissed with every pick they made. Loved Drake Maye, but two teams picked 2/3 of the consensus top 3 QBs and Kraft insisted we get a QB. Every other pick I hated. Hated the trade down and taking Polk, hated both OL picks, I liked Javon Baker but had a feeling he'd fail with us, hated the Joe Milton pick. And then there's Uche who took a significantly smaller contract to stay in NE, just to get traded anyway. It's only 1 year, but Wolf might be worse than Belichick was, at least he could draft Defense and RBs.
