    I'm all for more content & support for Div2. It's been the only shooter I've continuously played or come back to. My only real concern at this point is storage. They keep coming out with new brand sets, 2-3 named items, & 2-3 Exotics. Storage space is already *extremely* limited.

    • @josephhill2178
      @josephhill2178 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Limited storage has been a issue for a long time.
      I don't know what kind of information the developers have on the total amount of storage used by players across the board.
      This is purely speculative but, perhaps they believe that most players are not willing nor interested in collecting all of the unique gear and weapons. I mean that literally. All off it.
      I think this could be possible due to the fact that there are players that like only a few different styles of play, and perhaps they would not find it desirable to seek out every piece of gear and every weapon.
      I to once had the idea that I wanted to collect every piece of gear but, what I found out after filling up my stash is that, I don't like to play with every piece of gear and every weapon.
      For this reason (this could possible if not likely apply to most other players) they may not see a need to make the amendment, even though players have asking for years.

    I feel that you're pretty spot on about the long term goals of the Div2 dev team. Project Resolve and the short term are to bring people back or new players in, to maximize returns and player engagement before new content drops.

    Essentially from a game dev.
    Live service go into two areas once released.
    “Sustain” - actively developing for the title
    “Shutdown” - getting the game in a good spot for years to come before development stops.
    Now I haven’t seen the content in the new DLC yet. But it def seems the game is going into shutdown. They are probably gonna use this DLC and Heartland as “Keep Players Busy” before Division 3.

    • @TehCoopaTroopa
      @TehCoopaTroopa 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the special thing about Division 2 in particular is that the game was essentially put on ice long ago. After season 4 they were clearly winding down by reducing the size of the team, presumably just to have them get the game to a point where they could just leave it with a skeleton crew. Then, presumably because of covid, they attempted to continue the live service with a much smaller team which lead to much smaller updates. I feel as if the only reason this game got updated for so long and now has the chance for a third dlc was because of covid tbh.
      In that sense I think it's actually the opposite from what you're saying, where the games coming from a soft "shutdown" state to the "sustain" state, which they'll then "shutdown" on Div 3 release (like Div 1)

    Ubisoft even stated that Division 3 isn't one of their main focuses at the moment. Massive still need to patch up Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws has been delayed to mid or late 2024. There are also the Division Resurgence and Heartland games that need to come out first before the dev team can finally start recruiting and working on the Division 3. Therefore, we have to be patient. Besides the Division 2 is pretty fun to play right now. Let's enjoy it while we can.

    I agree with what you say, I think exactly the same. In fact, I always say this to my clanmates. Also it doesn't make sense to release DLC just to finish the game. I think they want to achieve the same thing as with Warlords, that feeling of starting a different story, without losing some of our progress. I'm sure there are many things that have been left half-finished for a long time, due to lack of equipment. And now they are doing that and much more ahead. I don't think TD3 will arrive for another 5 or 6 years. And that is provided that its development begins at the end of this year.

    I think it's going to be difficult for the devs to fully return to a controlled and curated experience, since they have introduced systems like Optimization & Expertise (which remind me of Div Tech and Classified Gear from D1), indicating the game has moved into a sunsetting phase. The fact that they are reducing the costs on these systems seems further evidence of this. Also consider how much Countdown has reduced the gear grind, and the upcoming SHD level rework - all making it easier than ever for new (and returning) players to jump into the endgame.
    It definitely feels like the "let players have fun stage" - and to be fair, I have indeed being having a ton of fun since I came back to the game (thanks in no small part to you and your videos for influencing that decision lol).
    Even the gear lock feels like it's primarily being done to address something in the back end rather than a decision to make the game more tactical / strategic.
    The continued development of the game makes it feel like we are getting the best of both worlds - getting the shiny new things and having fun at the same time. The upcoming DLC, new story content, spec reworks, and everything else they are doing shows they want to keep players engaged while they work on D3 (which will likely be a 2027 / 2028 release IMO). I'm genuinely interested and excited to see how this will play out.

    • @RogueGold
      @RogueGold  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very valid points, and I'm mad that I didn't bring up Optimization/Countdown because those fit right into the conversation 😄
      With Optimization, they actually outright said on stream that they view that as an end-of-life feature, hence why it was introduced with Division 1's final update. They only introduced it to Division 2 in Season 4 because at the time, they thought that was the final update for the game. Once they learned things would continue, they said they tried to devise a new progression system that would allow for players to still have that "chase," and that's when they came up with Expertise.
      Countdown 100% fits into the more "fun" side of things with it's ridiculous loot quantities, and I think that backs up my theory that during Year 4 in particular they were more oriented towards the "fun" side, before Division 3 was greenlit and long-term funding for Division 2 was not a guarantee.
      With both of those examples, it remains my suspicion that the Endgame redesign in Y6S2 will attempt to address those things. Whether or not it's successful we'll see, but from what we know about it it sounds like Endgame reward redistribution is on the table (potentially lowering Countdown's efficiency), and they've previously spoken before about knowing that holistic difficulty would need to be adjusted eventually with Expertise's impact.
      Sorry for the long response, again I'm just more frustrated with myself that I forgot to mention these things in the original video lol.

    This is for those people that think division 3 is coming in 2025. If u paid attention to what they said when they announced division 3 is coming, they are putting a team together to make division 3. That means when they announced that there will be division 3, it's in the early phase of development. Which means we won't be getting division 3 for years. It's not like COD where it takes 1 year of making because they are copying and pasting everything.

      @@TigerWon I know this is Ubisoft. The point I was making is it will take years to make division 3 because when they announced it, they were putting a team together. Most companies (unlike EA, Activision/Blizzard, and any shit company like them) will take years to make games. Especially if they just announced that they are putting a team together to make said game.

    I've expressed this thought process on other channels when the question is asked but here we go... so Division Resurgence is coming out probably within the next few months. This free mobile game will draw in new players and keep everyone who wants to play division on their commute or slow night shift. This will in turn build interest in the main division games, especially the first as it mentions what happens in the first in Resurgence. Also with the games timeline it leads into the div 2 time. Then down the road they have Heartland which is a free battle royal-ish game which will pulling in the PUBG/COD crowd. This timeline is probably around div 2 (I think NGN has a division timeline video about it) so this will lead to interest in Div 2 and due to its similar style should also peak interest in div 1's Survival. Now we've already seen they are having crossover in game rewards for all three games. This would stand to reason they might try to crossover future div 2 updates/manhunts/dlc/incursions. Think an incursion mission for div 2 in Silvercreek, or an Outcasts event in Heartland, or Black Tusk or True Sons showing up in Resurgence NYC. Lots of crossover possibilities. But no the Brooklyn dlc is not the end point, it will be the catalyst for new material. One of my theories is that based off the end of the last Div novel (the one with the cool rogue agent) the dlc will be stopping the separation of ortiz tech channels or part of separating off like ANNA. Anyways I see lots of options for new material even with just the new factions. I mean the Freeman could have bases everywhere industrial workers are in large numbers...like say Pittsburgh or a certain former True Sons ironworks factory. I could go on for hours about little additions that could make tons of content (Psst Ubisoft). So I see Div 3 being 2026 but in other ways there's already a plan made if division 3 is approved so there's already a city picked and ubisoft employees collecting data in it as we spea...type. that's just my thought process though...

    I don't know what I was suppose to look for and advice during the PTS because it mostly felt the same in the content that I played. I know the UI in a few work benches changed, but decent still was terrible for me, and I didn't try summit. I'm all for back-end upkeep, but if they're asking for input they need to be a bit more specific. I am all for more story in TD2 and I doubt Brooklyn DLC is the end as well. That is more a full circle moment for us TD1/ hella old Division players. Revisit the beginning to start over fresh like saving the White House from Black Tusk a few seasons ago.

    Makes sense. MH Wilds was revealed, and Capcom suddenly rolled out the return to world campaign for people whose interest got piqued and wanted to see what's available now in that universe (Some of us don't like talking about Rise/Sunbreak much). Unfortunately, Div2 was left less polished than MHWorld/Iceborne was, embarassingly so, some would say, and devs needed to go back and work on it. Really interesting similarities and differences there, though admittedly MHW is not a live service game at all; the multiplayer aspects simply helped keep it alive along with the depth of content, in the same way that Div2 could be played solo for nearly everything and multiplayer adds more dimensions to it for people who want variety.

I couldn't tell you whether or not there will still be new major content after Brooklyn, but with Ubisoft laying off and currently downsizing more and more, I don't think Ubisoft is stable, now that doesn't mean that the TD2 team is unstable (I do not have any knowledge to know but with the current way they are behaving it looks from the outside that they are stable) but at any moment that unstableness from Ubi can effect the TD2 team, it could be tomorrow, next month, years from now or never, we just have to live and see.

    I think your read on the state of the game is probably pretty accurate. The Division 2 is in a unique position as a game that had basically ended its development and entered maintenance mode, only to be resuscitated and thrust back into active development. Transitioning back from what you call "fun mode" to "controlled mode" is a tricky thing to do, and most importantly, to do right. I can't think of any other games that have been in this position, so there's no precedent for how it should be done.

    I know you disagreed with this before but My personal thoughts are these,
    1. As I said before I think the reason Div 2 is being "fixed" is that it's going to be the core (coding wise) and a way for the new Devs to practice for Div 3, much easier to repaint/reskin/ remaster and such than to build a new game from ground up, we've seen how the Devs can change a map/area to invaded and they do a great job of that so I think this is a way for the to practice on building Div 3 while "fixing" Div 2.
    I've watched quite a few of the Chinese version of Div 2 and it looks shiney-er like it was past through a new snowdrop engine filter and I've also seen how they changed the structure of famous political buildings and landmarks, easy to take a city block move or restructure it around and call it a building in a completely different city.
    2. I still think the NY DLC will be the last new thing (Story Wise) we get in Div 2 because it will directly tie 2 and 3 together via cliffhanger AND I wouldn't doubt that they announce Div 3 shortly after kinda like Div 1 and Div 2, I think we'll hear whispers of Div 3 later 2025 (October-ish) and Div 3 in early 2026 as March 2026 will be a 10th anniversary for the franchise, which will be a decent selling point/ad campaign.
    We all know the Devs are spread thin, kinda hard making Div 3 and still creating new content for Div 2, especially content that can be in Div 3.
    3. Lastly I don't think Div 3 will be overly spectacular in so far as a WOW factor, sure the game will be prettier because they have an updated Snowdrop engine, If Div 1 or 2 were "remastered" via filtering it through the new engine it would be prettier too.
    I think we'll see new things like stealth and a few other mechanics but these are things they were working on in the first game so not really so "inventive" as they will lead us to believe, we are already hearing whispers of some of the new things in Heartland and Resurgence, Div 3 will just be a prettier game with a few new mechanics from those games, a giant "add-on or DLC" so to speak, everything "new" under one umbrella, which BTW I'm fine with, just keep the story moving forward and I'm good.
    You gotta remember, this is a business, you don't make real money on $10.00 season passes/DLC and free game modes, ESPECIALLY on a 5 year old game.

    100% agreed, with project resolve being NEEDED to fix the foundation of the game, think of it like a house, no point painting the walls when the foundation is falling apart under the house.
    with the new dlc coming, as Yannick said it himself, its not about that there is a new dlc coming and it is all cool and all, but the fact that they are allowed to make a dlc, means they have the support of ubi and are trusted to keep updating this game.
    also on Div 3 coming i don-t think it will impact div 2 and its future content, i believe it will keep getting support as long as there are players for it, yannick said it himself in multiple interviews, as long as a playerbase exists they will keep bringing content. hopefully an expansion after the dlc.

    I dont think we will see another story expansion after this next one maybe something smaller sure but I dont think Massive have the kind of numbers or resources required to work on so many projects at once and I would bet most the team is going to be on the working next game sooner rather than later leaving a bare bones crew to man D2

    • @RogueGold
      @RogueGold  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could be! My main reasoning there is that the vast majority of The Division 2's current workforce isn't at Massive proper. I would much rather have had new content rather than a lot of tweaks to existing gear and a few new items. Its also a little contradictory as most of these buffs seem to be making the game easier and yet most veterans have been asking for more legendary missions because the game in their eyes is already too easy. Heroic missions for instance are easily doable with a half decent build. These changes to gear are great for content creators as it gives them the opportunity to make many new build videos (no criticism intended ), but really a few new items and a few buffs isn't going to keep people playing in the long term

  • @RussellBrungardt
    @RussellBrungardt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    if they wanted to keep the community interested and engaged. Why not just change up all the existing missions. Change all the spawn points for the enemy's and the number of them coming out. But instead, they spend time and resources on new gear sets and cosmetics.

    • @RogueGold

      I mean, I think the main thing with what you're proposing is that those are all completely separate types of Devs that they have on the team. The Art team makes cosmetics, designers work on new gear, and programmers work on functional changes to the game's content (layman descriptions). I'm sure the team would agree that modifying old content like that would be cool, but those resources are currently completely tied up working on the DLC.

Year 6 will be the segue between Brooklyn and end-life for TD2, acting as a cover of content for Julian's team to start whiteboarding TD3. Tbh the comparison between 1.8 on TD1 and the project resolve in TD2 are similar.
    With 1 exception that TD3 is been announced. And for sure it needs time to create it. To keep the guys on this game (and of course the new players) they have to do something for the fun of this game. But the thing is that the current state of the game is not "available". We have too much gear sets, we have too much power. We don't have the content to use this power. We don't have the resources to have all gear sets in the inventory or stash. These are just 2 points!
    I remember that Yannick said that the incursion will be soooo difficult. And what? 15-20 Minutes and that's all. Descent is also only useful to waste your time. Only interesting to collect the comms and the in-game stuff (exotics etc.). Sorry for this post. 🤘

      I think they're doing about as much as they can with what they've got. A DLC in production, and an entire redesign to the endgame (which I think is more expansive than some realize) is pretty impressive for a team of their size. Now you're right, 2024 is going to be content-light for veterans, but history has told them that Vets will consistently return after long gaps if there's sizeable new stuff to check out. So if 2024 makes the game even more attractive for newer audiences, then they likely see that as the best path with the resources they have on-hand until the DLC arrives.

    They can confirm whatever they want, Ubisoft and especially The Division dev team has shown time and time again them confirming anything means nothing; being the champions of delays and cancelations. So I will just wait and see. And hope that Division like game of former Division devs, we saw an announcement & artwork of a few years back; is still in production. They really need a competitor that kicks their teeth in so to speak. Since Ubisoft their reputation and many of their games have tanked badly, I disagree that they can afford people walking away; but time will tell if they are actually capable of delivering solid content.

    Wait. We were supposed to go back to NYC at the end of year 5 given the road map shown before year 5 was started. I sat there and watched those two spew that crap in the state of the game. Are you saying now that is not happening until some time next year? After waiting almost a year to get to the end of season 2? After they changed how long the manhunts last? And all of the other crap decisions say it aint so. Its turning out that the books, graphic novels, and audiobooks audible presentation are becoming far more interesting than the game. They are dragging their feet. Constantly doing thing people dont ask for and ignoring changes that makes sense community requested. How is that for QoL?

      I think you're conflating two different content releases. Season 3 begins in 3 weeks on February 6th, this will take place in New York, and the story will revolve around Aaron Keener, the events of WONY, and mysteries we've been awaiting answers for.
      Originally, the update after this would have seen the release of the Brooklyn DLC, where we're getting an all-new map and other content additions. This is now slated for early 2025.
      In-between Season 3 and the DLC is now scheduled to be two other brand new Seasons/Manhunts, their stories and locations are unknown for now.

    They should bring back classified gear! They should also allow us to use as many exotics as we won’t! Make a whole exotic build! They should get ride of all the BS gear/weapons that no one uses! Simplify the gear/weapons. Make new gear/gear sets that actually matter and that people will use.

    I just wish they would stop adding useless items like the new pistol and gloves
