  • Terry Carter Music Store Guild D-20 vs D-120 Acoustic Guitar Showdown - American Craftsmanship or International Excellence?
Welcome fellow six-string aficionados, to an acoustic showdown that's been a long time coming. With the help of our friends at Terry Carter Music Store, we'll peel back the veneer on two remarkable all-solid-wood beauties - the USA-made Guild D20 and its international sibling, the Guild D120.
    The Guild Legacy: D-20 & D-120
The Guild D-20 and D-120, though sharing the same birthplace in the Guild lineage, offer subtly different takes on the iconic Guild sound. Both guitars offer that distinct Guild tone, a culmination of premium materials and painstaking attention to detail, but with their own unique twists.
    Guild D-20: American Craftsmanship
The D-20 hails from Guild's revered factory in Oxnard, California, featuring a satin nitro finish that allows the natural resonance of the wood to shine. This is a guitar made for the player who appreciates the touch of a craftsman's hand, the scent of lacquer in the workshop, and the age-old adage - 'they don't make 'em like they used to.'
    Guild D-120: Imported Excellence
Meanwhile, the D-120, the imported sibling, boasts a gloss poly finish that adds a layer of shimmering resilience. This is for the musician who likes the shiny things in life, without compromising on durability and sound quality.
Sound Comparison: The Heart of the Matter
Both guitars sing with the authority of all-solid-wood construction, but with discernible differences. The D-20's satin nitro finish allows for a more open, organic sound, while the D-120's gloss poly finish offers a slightly brighter, more focused tone.
Feel and Playability: Your Hands Will Know
In terms of feel, the D-20's satin nitro finish offers a more 'played-in' texture, while the D-120's gloss finish is slick and fast, perfect for the more technically demanding guitarist.
    Price: Understanding the Investment
While the D-20 commands a higher price due to its American origins, the D-120 represents an incredible value, offering many of the same qualities at a more accessible price point.
Terry Carter Music Store: Your Acoustic Destination
Both these Guild classics, as well as an expansive selection of other premium instruments, are available at Terry Carter Music Store. Not only do we offer these outstanding instruments, but we also provide custom work such as setups and pickup installs to ensure your new @GuildGuitarsUSA is perfectly tailored to your style and needs.
Whether it's the homegrown D20 or the globally-minded D120, each guitar tells its own unique story. So ask yourself - are you a satin nitro soul, or a gloss poly spirit? Only your fingers and ears can decide.
Experience these two extraordinary Guild guitars for yourself at Terry Carter Music Store. It's time to strike a chord and create your own musical legacy. Remember, like our long-time Guild advocate Tom Petty said, "Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life… it's pure and it's real. It moves, it heals." Now, let's find your magic.

I’m a Guild girl…when not a Martin girl. I have three Guilds now - a GAD50 which while made in China is my favorite goto guitar. Fabulous to play & sounds like (loud) angels!
My purchase of this was as a beater guitar to protect my F50.
I also have the light of my life, my 2008 F412!
My Martins are the D12-28, my limited edition 175th anniversary D18 & my Martin D15.

I’m a big Guild fan - I’ve owned many and worked on 100’s - I’ve owned an M-20 and an M-120, and a D-140. I sold the M-20 and kept the M-120! (Believe it or not!) The other Guilds I’ve kept are an early 90’s DV-52 and a 71 F-112. I’ve owned D-55’s, F-50’s, D-40’s, etc. All great guitars! The only “expensive” Guild that I retained is the DV-52 - a guitar to “judge” most others by. (It keeps up with my 6 Martins! It’s my go to “square shoulder” dreadnaught)
    Peace.
(Your playing was just fine! No better, no worse than mine (after 52 yrs!) - very real!) cheers!
