This is my favorite scene of the 1998 film. Despite what other people say or thinks towards it and that the creature was later re-branded as "Zilla" when TriStar Pictures rights from Toho Co., Ltd to use the Godzilla-character expired in 2003, it will always be Godzilla to me. I, however, have a positive open-minded opinion towards the 1998 film and that is I like to think of it as a story of Godzilla retold from a different approach in a way that's never been done before, which is where Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin were obviously taking it.

He wasn't a fan and admitted that as such, that should tell you this movie being "realistic" isn't an excuse for the lack of proper representation. Saying you know how the newer ones are going to end isn't a good excuse. Him being able to run 300 miles per hour but can't catch up to a taxi going less than that isn't a good thing my guy. There is a good reason why all 3 MV godzilla films made more money and got more positive reception than this film.

grew up with this movie and i gotta say, that´s an awesome way to First time show off a price of shait, not on the Levels of G14´s Roar but, still better then the first Trailer of Sonic the Hedgehog.
An often overlooked part of this great movie is the awesome comedy provided by the French special forces team . The gum chewing was classic as well as the coffee and croissants!!!
While I do not accept this as a Godzilla film, it IS made better if one were to imagine this as a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. That IS where most of the inspiration for Zilla came form anyway.

It's simple really. As a kaiju movie, as a giant monster movie, it's a good movie! It keeps you entertained for its run time. It has action, humour, even emotional dramatic moments. It's just, as a Godzilla movie, well, it's not a Godzilla movie. Good kaiju movie, bad Godzilla movie.
