The Sea of Jade, Lake Turkana is so named because of the amazing jade colour of the water and for us it was one of the places that epitomised adventure and defines a remote location.
It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake. By volume it is the world's fourth-largest salt lake after the Caspian Sea, Issyk-Kul, and Lake Van
Just getting here is a serious undertaking, with days of remote, bad road driving and wild camping, little fuel and no prospect of help if you have a breakdown. A lot of the prep we did with our vehicle (like carrying 2 spare wheels for the car and trailer each) was geared towards being in wild places like this.
What was a real surprise for us was also the incredible terrain around the lake and into the Chalbi desert. We really loved this part of our tour and looking back at these images we are reminded of just how unique and beautiful this area of Kenya is.

Amazing video indeed. Thanks for sharing. East part of Lake Turkana is where homo erectus was first appeared 1,8-2 million years ago.

Thanks for the kind words. Actually didnt know that about Homo Erectus. We did find lots of fossils along the shoreline though. Cheers

Thanks for the heads up, fortunately our kids are pretty nature wise, but for sure you always have to be careful. Rattle snakes are not found in this area but adders and cobras are and they are equally bad.
