Main Stop! Thank you, I knew it was called something else, that started with a M, but not a well known store, when it opened, but no one else remembered, and I couldn't convince them!

Thanks for posting these videos, it's great to see all the old places from childhood. Do you have anything from before the Nugent Shopping Centre was built in St Mary Cray?

Thank you . I am afraid I dont have any pictures of the old trading estate that was previously on the Nugent site. I do however have some pictures of St Mary Cray from the 1980s and will bring a video out on these in the next couple of months

Loving these historical videos about Orpington. Noticed the shop Eric Thomas (selling school uniform) in one of your videos (sorry, not sure if it is this one or not). The family that owned the business lived just up the road from me. I think it got merged into Graduates at some point. Forgotten that Boots had an upstairs but remember now you said it. Also remembered getting my lunch from the Bakers Oven when I worked in Orpington in the late 80s. These videos are great and bring back many happy memories. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Sorry - it is this video that you mention Eric Thomas. I was half way through watching when I commented on it and you mentioned it being taken over by Graduates. Another thing I remember is that I did work experience when I was at school in the Prudential Assurance which had its offices (I think) above Superdrug. Think those offices went ages ago but brings back a lot of memories when I think back at my experience working there.

Another thing we noticed the other day when in the high street is that it's a shame that they haven't done anything with the old Woolworths building. I know that it did become a discounted store at some point (think there were a couple) but now not in use and the building above the shop looks in real disrepair. Sad when you think what it used to be like in it's heyday.

Did Smiths move next door at some point, maybe 1960s? Could be wrong, also I remember Coopers supermarket in the same vague area , that would be early 60's and Seafarer mid 70's, we used to sneak down there for lunchtime fish and chips from school, 50p would cover the meal in those days. Great video.

Excellent video, do you know what was situated on the top floor of main stop before the bowling alley was there?

Thank you. I have just gone back and double checked through the images and I am afraid the first one I have showing the bowling alley entrance is the one in the video. Looking at the 1982 Main Stop image I cant see anything there and I am afraid I cant remember when a bowling alley first arrived. My best guess is that it was created out of unused space in the building, but I am afraid that is no more than a guess. Glad you enjoyed the video!

@@eclecticexperience1 I think it could have been offices based on the advert next to the Main Stop sign.

I think it was a snooker hall before the bowling alley
