I thought Sonos was the best surround system until I listened to a set of Klipsch speakers. Then I returned the Sonos Arc, Sub, and two Era 300. The I built 5.1.4 surround system with Klipsch speakers and Onkyo RZ50 for less than what Sonos costs.
There will always be something better out there. I like the fact that I can build my Sonos setup overtime and upgrade as new products come out, move old products to other rooms, and link them up when I'm hosting friends and family for amazing sound anywhere you go in my house. I've just taken delivery of Arc, Sub, 2x Era 300 and Port. This is to replace the existing older Sonos soundbar, Sub and Play 1's (and Connect). We're upgrading the TV to something bigger too so I'll have a complete "old" system to install somewhere else on the property. Very informative as always. I have the Arc with 100 series surrounds and I don't need more bass so no subwoofer required. Based on your review I now want the 300s but agree that they are expensive.
Agree, even if you think you don't need more bass what sub does fills entire room with sound, much more immersive and let's the arc shine without any low end duty. I had exactly the same opinion as you before I got the sub.

I have had my Sonos system for a year or two now and absolutely love it overall. I currently have the Arc, Sub and two of the ONE SL for my rears. Is it worth the price to change from the SL's to the new Era 300? I use the system daily for movies and gaming.
I bought my Era 300's to replace One SL's on launch day, with no regrets whatsoever! I moved the One SL's to another room, and every time I listen to something in Atmos, my full system blows me away.
I went with the original Ultimate (Sonos) Home Audio Experience with the Arc, dual Gen 3 subs, and Fives as rear surrounds a year ago. I really haven't had any regrets, zero app/hardware issues, and no sound quality issues with each and every update. I really enjoy the listening experiences with anything from music, cable, and streaming content w/ or w/o Atmos. Not sure how the Arc/sub(s)/300s sound compared to the Arc/sub/fives with non-Atmos content? I'm only seeing about 20%-30% of the content I watch on Xfinity cable and streaming services in Atmos format (mostly 5.1)? I don't listen to 3D audio.
I have your same set up but just one sub.. Did additional sub on your system make a big difference? I’m staying with my fives they sound amazing and like you no issues at all.,, thanks have a good day

I never felt the bass was under or overwhelming once I dial true play everything (I like a touch more bass with subs +5). I have an office with Beam Gen 2, Gen 3 Sub, and One SLs as rear surrounds and the single sub is more than enough for the 14 feet wide, 21 feet long, and 10 foot ceilings. Both rooms have LG OLED C1 TVs in 77" or 55" sizes. I would go for dual subs if you have a very large space to fill. My main sofa sitting position is full emerged in sound having my Fives sit so far back behind the sofa. I can wait to see if Sonos brings out Era 500 because the Fives sound sooooo good right now (only seeing around 25-35% Atmos compared to 5.1 content with what I watch).

BUT sony just released dolby atmos for the ps5 and I’ve been playing Spiderman 2 which is the first ps5 game to have a full Dolby atmos mix. And MAAAN! It sounds incredible and I definitely hear sound all around me and on top of me, when you swing under helicopters or action is happing all around you it sounds incredible, this is the first time I’ve ever felt like I was inside a sound bubble, If you’re a gamer I have this system I recommend the new Spiderman game, it takes full advantage of Dolby atmos, other ps5 games I recommend putting them on DTS if you have Sonos, I’m excited for the future of gaming if they’re going to start including atmos on more games!
Is it definitely playing in Atmos when you use other sources than the PS5? You can double check which audio format it is playing on the app(assuming you don’t know this already) 👍🏻
What you are saying about TrueSound tuning not being available when the era 300's are in a surround setup is kinda true, but if you use TrueSound tuning before you pair them, they remember those settings when you pair them or put them in a surround setup, so the sound distribution is still optimized for the room.
Interesting to see a new Sonos product. Strange shape too. At least they live up to the name and quality though! Nothing expected less from Sonos though.

I did the Arc, dual subs, and Fives around X-mas 2022 (way before the Era 300 or Nakamichi Dragon release dates). Very happy and impressed with the Sonos compared to my Nakamichi 7.2.4 it replaced. No plans to upgrade the rears to Era 300 because +/-70% of my audio is in 5.1 format (cable TV, streaming TV shows, music). I can wait until +50% is in Atmos or Arc v2 or Era 500 come out.

Complimenti ancora per i tuoi video, davvero ben fatti ed interessanti. Ciao dall’Italia!
I can’t wait to see your face when you review the Nakamichi dragon. I know it’s big and bulky but Jesus Christ what a BEAST of a surround sound system.
Thanks so very much for your awesome information and the way you present yourself. I am replacing my old school amp with all my wires and speakers, so this is a real eye opener. I was going to go with a new Samsung top of the line TV and there Q950 surround sound but after your reviews, I think it's going to be a Sonos surround with Era 300 speakers. Can someone recommend a top-of-the-line TV, and will I still be able to use my cable box and a Blue Ray to watch all sources thru the Sonos?
My fav TV are the LG OLED TVs in the C series 55", 55", or 77" range. The 83" C-series cost is way too much for so little extra space. I have my Xfinity cable box, Panasonic DVD/Blueray player, and Playstation connected directly to the LG OLED. I have the Sonos Arc connected with eArc HDMI port on the OLED. The big downsides with the OLEDs are the reflective screen if you have background light (windows, doors, lamps, etc...) and the screen may not be bright enough if you have a room with A LOT of light.
A review i was waiting for 😊. I hear a lot of complaints that when you use the 300's as surrounds the front speaker is disabled. Did you experience that as a problem or is this an advantage because of a more spatial feel compared to the Fives ? I'm still considering to buy this set up but i am sort of waiting for a follow up to the Arc. Unfortunately i still listen to some physical media from time to time and Sonos doesn't support that format all that well. But of all brands i think Sonos is well built compared to Samsung q990C.
Sonos have confirmed that in surround configuration, the front tweeter is disabled. It is only used when they/it is used for music playback outside of a home theatre set up.
Not for me. It's really expensive for what you get and it STILL does not support DTS HD and DTS: X, only lossy regular DTS audio. I'd much rather go with a Samsung Q990C, a Sony HT-A7000 with SW5 subwoofer and RS5 rear speakers, or anything from Nakamichi as they are all far less expensive (barring the Dragon system at nearly $4000!), they support all DTS audio formats, presumably sound just as good and have 2 or 3 HDMI ins.
What settings do you have the surround sound set at? It feel like the arc is doing majority of the work The era 300s seem like they’re barely working with surround sound
Concerning the microphone on/off switch on the back on the ERA 300’s, what are the pros and cons of that switch being on or off in a surround sound setup?
I think your preference applies a little bit here. Personally, I'd go with adding a Sub. It's going make a massive improvement to the overall sound. The Era 300s are far better than the Ones as surrounds, but the sub would make a more substantial difference.
I live in the one bedroom apartment and the only place I can put the surround is next to my couch. Should I get era 100 or 300 for surround with Arc and SUB (gen 3)?
I would go with the Era 100 with the speakers sitting so close to the couch; especially, having the couch backed up against the wall. The Era 300 turns off the front speaker in home theater mode. The Era 300s need some space to bounce sound off walls and ceiling to envelop the target listening area for Atmos. The Era 100 would be a laser beam of sound directly into the target listening area being that close.
I'm looking into getting this exact system. However, as an android user I'm also interested in the Samsung Q990C. My living room is about 300 square feet. Is the Sonos overkill? 😅
Does the 300's Stereo pair in front also play / add surround sound when watching a movie when added to your arc, 2 gen 3 subs & 2 x 300's rear ? Does all four 300's add the surround sound or does the 300's rear only ?
You can only do Arc with 1 or 2 subs, and two Era 300 rears in the theater group to do 5.1 or Atmos content (also iPhone Trueplay it together). Any extra speakers will be similar to doing whole house audio; but, in the same room. The extra speakers will not be in the Arc 5.1/Atmos Trueplay environment with audio channels split apart. You might see unbalance sound since the extra Era 300 are only working together instead of with the Arc group (extra Era 300 could bounce sound all over the room away from the listening sweet spot).
I currently have the Arc with a sub gen2 and 2 fives as surround speakers. I'm already convinced to replace the fives with 300's. But upgrading the sub to gen 3, is it worth it. What would that add beside an amount of extra money to be spend?
I don’t think it makes sense to upgrade from Gen2 to Gen3 sub. There isn’t a massive difference between them. Fives to Era 300s is a better upgrade. If they come out with a redesigned Gen4 sub, then maybe a sub upgrade would make sense.

I don’t have a ton of experience with this unfortunately. I’d search to see if the specific GPU supports 5.1 ch audio output through HDMI. If so, then you shouldn’t have any issues.
The Beam 2 sounds better than the ARC. I have had both, and the Beam has better Dialogue clarity and a richer sound profile. The Arc has a slightly wider sound stage but sounds weak and anemic, and the dialogue is very muddy.
I have the Arc ( extra large great room, 77C1 Oled, dual Gen 3 subs, Fives), Beam Gen 2 (Office, 55C1 oled, Gen 3 sub, One SLs), Beam Gen 1 (master bedroom, 55C9 oled, Gen 3 sub, Symfonisk bookshelf). All sound pretty good; but, each are in a different room size, speaker placement, and furniture/door/window placement. Using TruePlay helped get the sound profile very similar in each room to my liking. I like the ability to mix/match system components because I don't think I could switch my old stand alone Nakamichi 7.2.4 systems between rooms as easy.
Sonos always fails to meet or exceed expectations for its price segment: Whether it is ease of setup, app features, connectivity options, sound quality, pairing, ... too bad.
I can't remember the last time I rented or purchased a Blu-ray, DVD, or CD for music? It is getting harder to find a vehicle with a tape deck, muilt disk CD reader, or rear DVD system. Not sure why Sonos would invest in a medium that is already one foot in the grave with betamax tapes, VCR tapes, and laser disks?

@@SMAr2wo It doesn't sound like Sonos is right choice for you? There are some other systems other than Sonos to fit your audio needs. Good luck in your search.
It's so stupid they got to this point and never thought to utilise their speaker microphones as callibtlration tools, instead of walking around with an "iOS device only" to offload the work. Besides the obviously, it's aloenating for another issue in that it's intentionally limiting functionality of android users behind a paywall that Sonos themselves don't leverage anything from. I'd be much more forgiving if produxts didnt include microphones on their end as a backup plan, but considering at least one does and is capable of doing this very thing, theres not logic nor reason for this move.

I think your preference applies a little bit here. Personally, I'd go with adding a Sub. It's going make a massive improvement to the overall sound. The Era 300s are far better than the Ones as surrounds, but the sub would make a more substantial difference.
Add a sub gen 3,skip the sub mini
Will ERA100 hold up for surrounds?
If I don't have an iOS device, can I still set up the Sonos Era 300 + Arc & Sub system? If not, what are my options?
Are the 300’s better than the 5’s ?
I live in the one bedroom apartment and the only place I can put the surround is next to my couch. Should I get era 100 or 300 for surround with Arc and SUB (gen 3)?
I would go with the Era 100 with the speakers sitting so close to the couch; especially, having the couch backed up against the wall. The Era 300 turns off the front speaker in home theater mode. The Era 300s need some space to bounce sound off walls and ceiling to envelop the target listening area for Atmos. The Era 100 would be a laser beam of sound directly into the target listening area being that close.
Do you have settings for arc+gen3 sub. Thanks in advance.
Have the same set up , but no sub ...yet.In a smallish room will I be ok with the Mini ?
Please don't buy the mini under any circumstances. Save up your money for the real sub. I returned the mini after 3 days
Hi Jonah, speaking about Sonos, didn't you make a video about IKEA-Sonos collaboration?
I did! It was on the IKEA Symfonisk picture frame speaker!
I'm looking into getting this exact system. However, as an android user I'm also interested in the Samsung Q990C. My living room is about 300 square feet. Is the Sonos overkill? 😅
No its not overkill. Im in a 450sqft and its great
Does the 300's Stereo pair in front also play / add surround sound when watching a movie when added to your arc, 2 gen 3 subs & 2 x 300's rear ?
@@mrgold3591that’s sucks they should have allow you to add two extra er300 for 7.1 home theater set up
I currently have the Arc with a sub gen2 and 2 fives as surround speakers.
Will you review the new Nakamichi Soundbar?
If I can get my hands on it!
How close could you mount it to a ceiling without it affecting the sound?
The 300,s are made for spacial sounds and they work best....hanging up side down.
I just order them with the 40% discount code. I’m glad just got me a pair for $575.
What a steal!
What 40% discount code?
@@apollovonsol7931 it was a promotion ended October 31. It was only for a few selected people that got the code. I didn’t get one but someone gave me one.
Is that 40% from upgrading from an old Sonos setup?
@@Yowzoe I have no idea how it was given out only a select few got it. I got it from a random Redditor that wasn’t gonna use his code so he gave it to me. All 40% codes expired on Oct 31.
True but we are talking around $2500 for the complete system.
Great video, thank you! This setup seems the best choice for a Dolby Atmos experience in the house....
I follow your reviews with great interest and passion and I compliment you on the great work behind them. in the past I followed the review on the Sony HT-A9 system. Your opinion on the Sonos Era 300 + SW compared with the previously mentioned Sony system would be interesting.
its the most highend sounding portable but still in affordable range/not far gap, afaik they still hasnt released it since im very sure its portable either dac or dap
its not neutral so dap is likely
Super-useful -- thanks.
300s and Double sub video???
i know this isnt exactly related to this video but can you help me with something?
i was wondering if it is possible to connect a samsung ah64-05291a reciever to a pc and only use it for the speakers/surround sound. ive tried contacting samsun support about this but they arent too helpful.
- let me know, thanks
edit: if it helps i have an asus prime b450-a motherboard and have a free hdmi port on gpu & cpu
I don’t have a ton of experience with this unfortunately. I’d search to see if the specific GPU supports 5.1 ch audio output through HDMI. If so, then you shouldn’t have any issues.
Era 300 nice or ugly? Haven’t decided yet😂
Wasn't a fan of the odd shape at first, but they're growing on me 😂
Thanks!
Thank you very much!!!
Yes.
Good price
Samsung Q990C Review Pls
Working on it!
this or sony HT-A9?
Go for it, you will not regret. HT A9 suffers from connection drop outs.
Yeah, overall, I’d say this. HT-A9 is great, but this system is better in my opinion
Sonos always fails to meet or exceed expectations for its price segment: Whether it is ease of setup, app features, connectivity options, sound quality, pairing, ... too bad.
Someone likes Post Malone.
Hey Sonos, i just got my Blu-ray Dune in IMAX , DTS HD MA ( DTS:X HD );...why so silent?😂😂😂
Fidelio B97: hold my beer....
What are you talking about, man? I'm talking about lossless Studio quality, not obstolete technoloogy and we are talking about home entertainment, not car's audio system.
@@SMAr2wo Blu-ray and DVD sales are in the toilet. No reason for Sonos to invest in a dying technology for these types of media.
@@mrgold3591 man, do you even know what are you talking about?? How can you compare DVD with Bluray? Just think that Bluray is 720p and 6 channels and Bluray in 4K HDR 8 channels lossless and metadata . I think we are (you and me) in totally different Era ...please study more about D.Audio Formats specially DTS HD MA , DTS 96, DTS with IMAX, Dolby True HD Atmos ...you will figure out .
Broh...Disney+ just released DTS:X format... dying technology you said 😆...
@@SMAr2wo It doesn't sound like Sonos is right choice for you? There are some other systems other than Sonos to fit your audio needs. Good luck in your search.
Yeah, the movies sound great, but stereo music suffers using the Era 300s.
The Fives a much better choice for 98% of the available music out there….
Clearance advertisment 😅 from Sonos!
I'd be much more forgiving if produxts didnt include microphones on their end as a backup plan, but considering at least one does and is capable of doing this very thing, theres not logic nor reason for this move.
trueplay ?? just bough the arc, and Suprise trueplay only works on the newest apple stuff. what a ripp off. my ipad pro 2 gen not supported. dont believe everything you hear in these reviews.
TURN OFF MOTION SMOOTHING
Stop saying "tho" needlessly.
Also,...
IOS 18 Airplay will start supporting Dolby Atomos (Finally)....and spatial audio.
IOS ????😂 i tried to use my ipad pro 2.gen, no luck= not supported !!! Sonus forcing you to spend more money to buy brand new apple stuff= ripoff !!

The bass isn’t so good, I had return it and got the Bose instead
Really!? Dam, you might have needed to tweak the settings.
@@FroZoneDeNiro I did and still nothing, the Bose bass is miles better than Sonos, the whole floor just shakes like crazy

I just wish they weren't made in China. I'd gladly pay more if they were made in the US.
You are using Minoxidil
Nope! Just grew my hair out a bit
too many weird thing like this usb, way to configure equalizer, limitation in app and more. BIG NO.
To bulky and to expensive.
I Agee. And I think this spatial audio is a gimmick
sorry but sonos speakers are weird an ugly, it maybe some of the best but just for that I' will go somewhere else
I like the small size with big sound of Sonos. The speakers do a good job of blending into the background and don't dominate the room.
first!
You talk way too fast.
Wait Johnatan, is that how u have your era place by the sound bar ??
No, purely like that for filming purposes. For all testing they were in the back of the room on stands, or on stands on each side of the entertainment center.
