I have seen some doing that for the L200, I will check when I'm doing my oil change. You have to take away the wheel so not sure if it's easier. I will probably go with the wheel since I have to replace a cracked bolt anyway.
What tyre size do you have ? Any lift ? I change oil filter through right wheel arch it is much much easier, dont need to remove anything beside canvas cover

You can get to the filter from the rubber flap in the wheel arch. Just unclip it.

Service manual says 15,000km for oil service and 90,000 for timing belt service
