5R55S solenoid Codes

- In this video, I go over the common solenoid codes we see on 5R55W/S/N transmissions, these codes can be either electrical or mechanical.
A shorted solenoid or bad wire can cause these codes, a broken band or servo can also cause these codes, depending on what you see on the scan tool or how the car drives may let you know which direction to go. Thanks for watching, off to the shop today.
Awesome video. I really love videos like this, and I think this is what's missing in the TH-cam auto repair community. Most of the trans repair videos show disassembly only, and not diagnosis. Great video... please do more like this. Thanks!!
Thanks, i will try
Great explanation video one of the best. I have a p0733 code on my 2003 explorer. Strong and first gear and second gear but slips while in drive going into 3rd when in drive
You could try adjusting the intermediate band, if that doesn't work trans will have to come out or you could try taking the side piston out and look at the condition of that but usually overhaul
Done bushing kits on these more times than I can count😉,as usual another great video thanks Gary.
Yes, I do a lot of these units as well, last week and this week having a run on 62TE, I have 5 of them to do
Thanks Gary. I agree with Mechanix 1033 about the quality of your videos. And those bushings are a neat fix for the worn case. Thanks again.
TakeCare,
Bill
Thanks Bill
Your a big help and a very nice instructive person to talk to I just spoke to you on the phone
Great explanation! I purchased the AJ1E band servo repair kit that’s recommended over the bore & sleeve method. Only code I saw was the 745 on my generic obdII reader & came here wondering if I needed the pack now too, thinking maybe it got damaged by too much or too little pressure etc.
The obd2 reader cannot pick up the other code, i have seen this, what gear is slipping 2nd or 3rd?
Nice information .
Thanks John
Hello Gary,
Thank you for the very informative videos.
I have a 2010 Explorer with the 4.0 and a 5R55S trans.
Back in April, I started having trouble with my transmission banging and slipping when shifting. After reading the codes, I replaced the solenoid pack and trans fluid (@ 12 qts) and that solved the problem until this week, when it started doing the same thing again.
I have a wrench icon lit and the trans bangs from first to second and slips from second to third.
My scan tool gives me a P0962 code (Pressure Control Solenoid A Control Circuit Low) but no others. I realize there may be codes my scanner won’t read, but I was wondering if this code is electrical or mechanical related? I can’t find any info for this specific problem, nor if the Pressure Control Solenoid is different than the solenoids on the pack.
I wonder if the new solenoid pack has failed, and if so, is something else causing it?
Any info you’d be willing to provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Jeff
Yes that is an electrical code. Where did you get the solenoid pack from?, can also be a wire or the connector that plugs into the solenoid pack
Love the vid. I'm having DTC P0778 and P0964 on a 2004 lincoln ls. I'm not sure whether to change the solenoid pack or do the servo bore update. Think I'll check the IM and OD bands first and then go from there?
Does this have hard engagements?
And hard shifts
@@GaryFerraro Not really. Park and reverse are firm but not very harsh like my old trans was. My old trans would make the car lurch forward in drive and backwards in reverse ever so slightly.
@@shaunhuckabee5904 Becareful with this, on these cars the computers go bad all the time, i did a video on this 5 years ago called Checking Catherines PCM check out the video
somrtimes may set codes and sometimes not, if you clear the codes do they come right back?
Quero saber se quando não troca nenhuma marcha qual é o problema falo apartir de Angola
I have a Mercury mountaineer AWD 2005. It’s picking up p0775. I bought the pack to be replaced tomorrow. I’m worried it isn’t that and I’m wasting money.
It probably will not, there are always more codes when you have P0775, Like P0732 or P0735, Chances are it will not fix the problem
Hi Gary. With the solinoid pack on the 5r55w.. is there a set manafatures depth for the 3 depth adjustable screws on the back of each solinoid? Do you know what these depths are thanks
I do not, they are all different, has to be measured before taking them out
Ok thanks very much. Great video to watch
hey, Gary you going to go to Transexpo this year? if you are I will look out for you, nice video
No, i'm not going, shop is to busy for me to take off
Hey man. Love all the info on your channel. I got a P0775 code and when I opened up the transmission, the overdrive planet had metal shards all over the inside of it, and the band looked burned. Is this the kind of thing to set off that code?
Yes, the P0775 is usually along with P0732 and P0735 but if you just have a code reader those codes may not show, problem is with the band which is 2nd and 5th
Thanks a bunch. Upon further inspection I noticed the whole overdrive section looks burned. I’ll probably check the lube dispensing hole on the pump in the morning. Thanks again.
Need some help here. Rebuilt a 2004 5r55s out of an
explorer. had a lot of codes that am down to just one
that it is throwing when drive for about 5 miles and ha
e to go over 45mph.
Code P1744-ff
Things that were replaced:
Full rebuild kit
Servo pistions upgrade
solenoid pack
Torque converter
Pigtail
4x4 selector motor
What would cause this? feel like there is enough fluid
in it. It spits out a little each time - check it.
Do you have a scanner that shows live data?
@@GaryFerraro yes
@@Charles-lj1yu See what your converter slip is when lock up is commanded on, make sure duty cycle is at 100%
@@GaryFerraro sent a link with the data in it. I am sure you will see something wrong but not sure what I should be looking for.

Thanks for this awesome vídeo, it's really helpful. But I have other trouble, I changed the the solenoid pigtail because all the wires was doing contact (all 11 wires was together) and now, with the solenoid connector changed I've a lots of DTC, P0740-FF, P0743-FF, P0748-FF, P0755-FF, P0758-FF, P0760-FF, P0762-FF, P0766-FF, P0763-FF, P0778-FF, P0798-FF, and others. Can you help me please? This is in a Ford Explorer 4.0 2007 4x2.
I would need a translation, but with that code, you may have a problem with the front band which is 2nd and 5th gears
👍👍👍
Thank you
