I know how you feel. I'm a book illustrator, much older than you, working for years doing school textbooks. I made them as lively and intelligent and colourful as possible. Each book looked like a storybook, and the illustrations did what illustration is meant to do- amplify the content, give depth of understanding and context, and make the lesson a visual feast. I was replaced in the early 20's with editors using clip art, because they didn't cost anything. Yes, I lost my job. But the schoolbooks lost their soul.
I agree. One of my clients didn't quite like my multi media drawing that I did for her and suggested that I use AI. In my opinion, it just doesn't have a personality and soul. All of my work has my unique personality in it. AI won't replace genuine good artwork.
@@oscarhare9553 Because globalist satanists implemented a grand plan to degenerate Western civilization and they were very successful. They managed to destroy the old understanding of quality art in architecture, cinema, painting and comic book art, etc. Therefore, society's appreciation of art in every field has become inferior, degraded and terrible. Most of society no longer knows what good art is. For example, instead of Beethoven, they listen to the disgusting thing called hip hop.
I would definitely buy one of yours, before i buy one of these. If i could. Because it's a big difference for me as a reader to look at something that was made with hand then what's made with technology. Maybe you could bring out a book for kids? Like little nighttime stories or stories where kids can learn serious topics without getting the wrong picture. I think the market has a gap there.
We artists don't paint, because we are the best and most effective solution to getting a realistic looking photo. We do what we do out of love for the process, our desire to learn and for self expression. AI cannot substitute that. Telling an artist "AI is better" is like telling a runner "Cars are faster, lol".
A lot of people equate "art" to "realism" but if realism was always the goal we'd just invest all of our time and effort on photography. Art is essentially capturing a moment or idea and presenting it through the lense of the human experience. Its essentially something made by the human soul for the human soul - it should be extremely obvious why AI falls very short at making praise-worthy art.
Exactly, I watched a video about music the same. You don’t listen to music to finish the song, else all songs would be very short so you can finish the song fast. You listen for the journey not the destination❤️❤️❤️
@@HughMansonMDa lot of people " mistake" art for realism, its a tendency for laymen and amateurs to do that as realism is the most basic and easily digestable way of telling "quality" of a piece of art. Basically you can tell that someone knows jack shit about art when they only can comment abd apprecie on technical "detail".
"our desire to learn and for self expression" That's a great mentality for a hobby artist... Clearly you've never tried to sell your work to try to make a living
Usain Bolt was celebrated as the fastest human alive for a reason. Not the car, not cheetah, not plane. Because humans admire the amazingness of humans.
i agree , but the problem is when coming to digital art it's hard to identify which on is human made and ai made . even educated clients just purchased ai generated image think like it's done by human.
@@ramjeevacartoonsthose who commission ai imagery instead of real art don’t care about art enough in the first place to notice. to them it’s no different. those who rlly want human art will know unless they’re VERY naive- most artists will send several progress pictures and sometimes even concepts and timelapses, and you have proof of laters
Agreed. The example I always give is chess: AI has been able to effortlessly defeat any human player at chess for a long time now, it's not even close, and yet people still play chess. Art isn't going anywhere.
My favorite part about this video was hearing the genuine joy in your voice as you talked about the whole process and your artistic journey. The creative process behind art is why I love it so much. I'm still fairly new to art. I struggle to draw a decently looking cube, but while practicing, I've come across so many interesting techniques and combinations that I can't help but get excited.
Wow. Your wolf is so beautiful! The thing about Gen-AI is that it may look cool at a first glance. But the more I look at it, issues start to jump out. Nothing can beat the heart and soul an artist pours into their work. Your wolf is absolutely stunning and has a life of its own because it reflects part of you and your energy. AI can't duplicate that.
The life, character & personal experience that artists bring to their work could NEVER be replaced by AI - the entire industry is based in envy & jealousness of those who can not do for themselves in a satisfactory & timely manner forcing their will to get the results they want - more conquering than creative I'd say
That's just your own opinion few people making statements like they're real based off of your opinion is actually stupid Believe it or not AI does make photos a lot better than a lot of you people claim y'all be saying it's garbage and stuff You should check out some of my album arts and then talk about how you think I photos are garbage Because all you're doing is basing your own belief on your own opinion

im really hoping ai just just a trend right now, and in the next 5 years itll die out and nobody will care for it anymore (when it comes to art and such, not in general) i see people say a lot of the same stuff that has been said when other innovations in technology were made like printing or cameras, and obviously theyre not the same, but im hoping its a sign that over time ai will also have its place and be respected in a way, but nowhere near how it is right now (not really sure if ive worded this well)
@@teneesh3376 at this point im tempted to definitively seperate rendering style (computer made and ai) from art style (human made and includes emotional composition). i should add that 3d artists not only exist but use the word render much more often than other artists. in this context their work would fall under art style since it describes their progress and not the final stages of their artwork getting rendered, aka detailed with the final generated resolution. while the visuals look the same, the very definition of art as a form of expression falls away.
@@schaschia6332 Oh, that's a good point, actually. You wouldn't call the look created by the technical strengths and weaknesses of a game engine an art style, you would call the look of a single game an art style insofar as it was created for that game by its authors. I remember playing the Beginner's Guide, and the narrator, who is eventually revealed to be an unreliable prick, talks about how the art style of the environment is supposedly based on the limitations of the Source engine. Thereby proving they understand nothing about computer rendering and nothing about art.
This is, kind of bad advice. They will get better than Daniel because they can essentially copy his style efficiently, and then also modify it by amalgamating the style of others into it at the command of a newbie. If Daniel were to still produce a masterpiece he had never produced before and is unprecedented, the network can trained to learn this new style within a training session spanning a hour or so, and it’s over once again.
Yep, that was the exactly shit they said to the theater artists: "That movie thing will never be more popular than a theater, do not be afraid!". And although theater is still up and running, it will never sustain the same amount of people a movie does.
@@eufrosniad994 idk man, yes they can make something that looks cool, but it has no value whatsoever. Real art on the other hand is awesome to look at every time.
I think the key difference between AI and you is that you’re my favorite artist because of your evolution and how you push yourself to try new techniques and ideas every time you paint. It’s inspiring and teaches me so much how you always work to improve by using your imagination and ideas you haven’t tried before, which is something that AI, being trained and based solely on past works of art, will never be able to do. You are incredible, and I can’t wait to see what amazing pieces you come up with in the future! AI will never replace artists like you :)
AI art is impressive yes, but many of us humans enjoy watching the painting process. To sit and watch how a simple sketch is painted over with colour, how the background is created, how a few simple brushstrokes brings light and life to a subject, and to then marvel at the stunning final creation; it's uplifting and inspiring, and it stirs our own imagination and creativity. I've seen a lot of AI art lately and there's often something wrong about it, people's faces and hands and animal paws and tails are often wrong, missing or just creepy looking. I think it's a real shame that people have lost their jobs over the introduction of AI. We need to keep our creative spark and ability to make and create with our own hands, it would be a sad world if we relied on AI to make everything.
You know you can train it yourself with your own handmade art, not just past works of art. Also combining multiple unrelated sources into something new like all art always did.
I have a BA (HONS) in art. I'm 46 and have been painting since I was 13. Funny enough, painting figures in GamesWorkshop taught me about details and patience. AI has its place, but I'm more about the process and how it looks and feels. Give me REAL art every day. 😀
My gosh… your painting of the wolf was beautiful and the process of making it breathtaking! AI could never do that! There’s something awe-inspiring just watching someone take their time making art.
Haha yeah, AI will remeber this video to copy from when making its "AI vs Human" rendered video.😹 I think the AI made a perfectly nice airbrush on lorry composition though. But the real question should, like that print everything, be if it could actually one day actually do the airbrush on that lorry. After that it will of course still be quite a bit before its doing a classic medium painting of it.
Tell that to the people that pay just to get something for their work or hobby... For consumers/clients it's the destination, not the journey. For those that love the journey, then AI is not a problem, no one is going to force them to stop their hobby because of AI, just don't expect to get paid for your hobby when I can get better results faster and cheaper.
@@OnigoroshiZero reasonable but this is the reason why im working on an artstyle or a technique in where I can draw quicker and paint quicker in just minutes or a day, is impossible but for me, i dont care, i might give up sooner than expected but is been years and ive been improving getting close to those speedpaints that make a really good drawing fully colored in just an hour but ofcourse AI will always be better but HandCrafted Art will only continue to become more valuable if AI art continues to rise
@@OnigoroshiZero For consumers/clients, it really depends on where they stand with AI. If they see AI as not having a certain something, whether that's a lack of soul, that human touch, or whatever it is, there will always be people who would rather pay for something created by a human.
I'm not sure if the sequence around 05:30 was only intended to be a joke, but I found it very deep. I think it brillantly showed the bottom of the problem: above all we are doing art because we like it, we enjoy the process, it brings something meaningful to us. AI is just emptiness.
@@lindendrache8998 This just isn't true. Well, at least the more accurate description would be "it depends". (copy paste from a previous comment of mine, as I want to say the same thing here and don't fancy trying to reword it all unnecessarily) In the hands of someone with a genuine vision and care for what they are doing (aka, an artist) AI tools can be used to create something really wonderful. Why would you think it any different? I have a 'traditional art' background, but I LOVE creating with AI tools - and just like any other digital art tool, *if the result the machine gives me isn't exactly what I'm looking for, I have to re-iterate and go at it again* (and again, and again). *I* am the one who is guiding the process - and I intend to keep it that way (in my own work, I will have a very specific vision in mind and must iterate and give the tools feedback in the form of sketches, poses [I use a rig], colour guidance, etc. - have you ever tried to get AI reproduce EXACTLY what you have envisioned in your minds eye? Best of luck to ya!! Yeah, it doesn't work that way LOL. That being said, just slapping in a prompt and holding up the results and calling it 'art' is, imo, akin to banging on a synthesizer preset and calling yourself a musician. The synthesizer isn't where the problem is, it's in the person using it. I do, however, agree that something 'hand crafted' will always hold special value, beyond what any digital tools can reproduce; and there will ALWAYS be a place for it. In fact, in much the same way as 'Hand-Crafted' Etsy clothes, toys, etc. fetch a premium in a world where machines can create them at a dollar a dozen, Hand-Crafted ART will only become more special (and thus, valuable) in a world where fancy pictures (I don't call *these kinds* of AI produced images 'art' anymore than the person banging on the synth an 'artist') are made in seconds by machines.
@@Atreyuwu If you go ahead and use AI as inspirational tool to get an idea of how something might look and do it your own way, it is ok in my opinion. But I have an issue with people who claim themselves artists because they are able to write a prompt into midjourney. And use the result without even polishing the errors (like too many fingers) out. For me art is about the process - yes, of course the result matters, too. AI tools can be interesting to try out but if you have 300 results of a prompt by an AI and browse through them it feels just strange. It is like a photorealistic unicorn vomited all over me. Sorry, I don't know a better term. It is too much - it looks kinda polished perfectly and kinda off at the same time. It is strange. It is just AI art. (or let's call them AI pictures...) I feel that this stuff will make media even more soulless and corporate than it is today - consume, consume. Yes, there will always be real art, it is part of being human. But the AI pictures that are everywhere right now are just soulless. And I don't think someone who plays with a synth preset (if you mean the sound) is like one of those AI "artists" - He needs to play a melody and combine sounds in order to sound good. The synth preset is the color - the artist needs to use them right. AI art would be adding a random generator to the synth and click start - but doing nothing musical at all. Yeah, not a really comparable example...
@@Atreyuwu Creating art with AI is just an illusion, it reduces art to a simple idea and your artistic control is very limited and replaceable by AI itself. It could work for the crap of contemporary art and the "creatives" of advertising. If you are not a talented artist and using AI you believe you are representing your ideas by drawing like Michelangelo or painting like Rembrandt you are naive and AI is your tool. You will probably never understand great works. Do you really think that Michelangelo could have created David by typing "boy standing relaxed, with wavy hair, with a concentrated look and a slingshot on his shoulder"? How would he have transferred his anatomical knowledge into the work?
I disagree. Just like some comparisons in other comments. A car is faster than running. A photo is more realistic than a painting. Neither of these make the accomplishments of humans less valuable. But we still enjoy racing and photography, and nobody is judged for that as if they are replacing or de-valuing humans. I consistently see that this is not the case with AI. While I have no love for people dishonestly trying to pass off AI as hand made art or real photos in order to trick people. I think people should be allowed to use and enjoy AI for what it is. And I also think it deserves more recognition than simply "writing a promt and pressing a button". In the same sense that professional photographers aren't just "pointing a camera and pressing a button". Yes, there are people who use AI the same way people use photography, to snap meaningless selfies and pictures of food. But there can be a lot more to it, that a lot of people are unwilling to see because of blind hatred for anything AI.
Why on earth a person would go to an artist and throw on his face a fact that AI is killing his work? Why? You guys like to see artists suffer? (I'm not a pro artist, by the way)
I mean, artists (in the specific sense of painters or sculptors) may be sort of safe. But illustrators have had a hard time even before AI. Now AI is simply replacing stock images.
Your painting is WAAAAAYYY better than AI!!! It’s absolutely breathtaking! There’s so much heart, soul, and love in your paintings that can never be replaced or captured by AI. There are a few of your paintings that have moved me to literal tears when you revealed the finished piece. You are beyond talented…you’re gifted!!!! All of this must be so frustrating for you but please don’t stop sharing your gift with the world! We love you and your brilliant paintings! ❤🐺🐆🦁🐻❄️🐘❤️
"Ai is Rubbish" - while I understand the sentiment, don't be so basic. In the hands of someone with a genuine vision and care for what they are doing (aka, an artist) AI tools can be used to create something really wonderful. @@Atreyuwu I feel like people are misunderstanding AI in image generation. AI essentially allows a person who cannot paint, photograph or do 3D modelling a way to produce their vision into a piece of art. Instead of painting or photographing or 3D modelling, the user essentially describes their vision about a subject or scene to trigger the AI network to generate their vision into artwork. So in a sense, the AI is like a paintbrush, camera or 3D model software who follows instructions of the user without the user needing to master handling a paintbrush, camera or 3D modelling software. Thus, the art from a real artist in a world where AI image generation exists would only be special insofar as their works invent a new style or look. Of course, then the AI will master that style and offer that as part of its capabilities to the users so it will be a tough job.
@@Atreyuwu This is a poor comparison since a synthesizer is simply a keyboard with predetermined sounds. Yes, you could synthesize your own sounds if you wanted to, or just use the presets. Either way, you need to know how to play a damn piano if you want to make something good out of it. You aren't stealing anyone's art by playing a synth with presets, unlike the blatant theft of artists' works used to train AI programs.

Remember Daniel , where there are 5 haters, there are millions of supporters! many of them just haven't found you yet. Keep on doing art, it's inspiring!, and thats the thing AI can't take away from you, the ability to inspire others to chase their dreams. Not crush/destroy them☺
I wish everyone who supports people would do the simple things it takes to show it. I see it so much as a Pro-Palestine activist, people think silently agreeing is a positive, or at least a neutral. It’s not it’s a negative. The algorithm knows you saw it and took no action, Sent no likes, didn’t save, didn’t follow. That’s a minus in the algorithm, not a neutral. Everyone should interact with what they want to see in the world. The creators have no possible way to continue if we don’t

@@Sun_Simp Yep, people bashing AI for its supposed ease of use think this way because they only "know" toys like Midjourney. If they had any experience with serious solutions they couldn't keep claiming this argument. Plus it seems they don't know neither about solutions like integrated AI in digital painting's softwares like Krita, which shows the next step : adding AI in the infographic workflow, making possible to paint with it like with any other brush/effect/etc. It takes a lot of efforts to really be able to control AI, and countless hours of learning and experimenting before being able to really control it.
@@jsmith8147 Before bashing photographers why don't you try yourself to take a photo that looks really good? You will soon noticed that you still need skill and thought before you take a good shot, AI needs no skill so you can't compare the two
What non artists seem to forget is art is about improving, exploring and learning over many years. It's not just about the finished product but the process. You get none of this by using an AI shortcut. AI also is only as powerful as amount of human created input. Without these AI models stealing art from real artists it would have nothing.
AI art is like fast food: It finishes quick, the results are pretty much the same every time and its not very good for you. Real art is like home cooking: It takes a lot of time an effort, but the result is satisfying because someone worked hard to make it.
This whole thing is so sad. I recently lay awake for hours wondering how young people will ever develop true creativity and competence in any of the arts. Learning to write, paint or create anything is hard and often thankless work. If young people hear the messages you're getting, what will propel them through the challenges and obstacles involved with learning to create beautiful things? Our world will lose something very important when the only art available is that which has been produced by a computer program.
It's so depressing hearing teachers talk about how students don't know how to do anything because instead of doing their work, they just get AI to do it for them. Kids use ai as a search engine and think its accurate
I'm part of the new age and I love drawing art, I like the hard work because in the end it's worth it. I don't think AI will take over since they mess up with limbs, fingers, hair etc. and they feel so soulless
I'm not concerned, the current young generation is the second most artistic generation we've ever had. So many people just want to make art, even when they think no one else will care, even when they know what they've made is bad. Just look at how fandom spaces have operated in the past ten or twenty years. There's a constant stream of negativity, and yet there's also a constant stream of new fanworks. Plus, almost every good artist currently in their 20s started out in the nightmare of fanwork culture, and managed to get past that. AI won't change anything. Aspiring artists already thought they didn't matter before AI, and continued to make art anyway. If we do see a decline in artistry going forward, it'll be because of TikTok-style brainrot sapping peoples' desire to do anything at all, not AI.

Thats madness that you received so many comments that AI is better and quicker. Its the time, effort and love that goes into the art by real people that makes it so special. AI can copy it, rip it off but never replace it as it hasnt had the love & time put into it.
It’s telling that all those comments were on a viral short. AI bros have short attention spans and would never sit through a ten minute video. That’s why they spend their lives searching for shortcuts and easy money instead of improving themselves.
If you’re interested in using pallet knives, I would suggest trying to find a pallet knife that’s a bit more bendy. It makes it easier to apply paint and isn’t as awkward to use.
Anti-AI tools like Nightshade exist. They "poison" the images in a way that messes with their algorithm. There is always that path/option if things get too bad for us artists. For now, let's just spread awareness that those tools are an option!
It doesnt work. I made a lora with 'corrupted' images and it still came out fine. Even after setting the strength to 2, it still didn't affect the image.
Ai is soulless and lifeless it cannot override actual art done by an artist. Your painting has much more life in it …maybe I’m showing my age as I hate anything like that ! I’m totally old school. Oh and I’m with Amber on the toilet sketch ….. not on a Sunday ! Ha ha 😂😂😂😂
The problem is that if Ai slowly eats away the feasibility of making a living on a majority of art and illustration, the "soulful" content of making art for no profit, isn't gonna be a thing many can devote their life to.
It definitely is. There's a greater chance ai would create two images that look EXACTLY the same. As opposed to sitting down two humans where it will never, ever be the same.
Idk I’ve seen some a.i. art that is really good and looks like a human created it. With the right imagination of the user, a.i. can produce great art and the technology is only getting better-and it’s getting better fast. It sucks and I don’t like it either.
@@tm5123 The problem is that AI art can't be copyrighted, because no human created it, and only humans can claim ownership of an idea in order for that ownership to be transferred. "why don't you just AI it?" Well as an artist I don't understand people who said that. Where's the fun in tryna mix colors and make shapes. AI art is not satisfaction fot artists as they can generate instant drawings but those drawings don't have any feelings poured into it. The unfortunate reality for a commercial artist (I am a graphic designer), is that AI art doesn't have to be better than you to replace you, just faster & cheaper.

@@Latte47 As much as I dislike AI art…You clearly don’t understand what you’re talking about. Many people always seem to misunderstand what AI really is and instead use their own limited understanding of it to fit their narrative of AI = Bad/Slop when if you were in the AI space you would know that AI for the most part is a helpful invention. It’s like saying “all an LLM (ChatGPT for instance) does is read a book and then spit it back and “steal” the writer’s work”, when it’s far more complex than that. AI art models use training data, like every other-kinda like using reference. They don’t “steal” anything. And I say all this as an artist of 8 years lol. I'd venture that hand-drawn art gives you a certain sense of satisfaction and achievement that AI art never really can (though visually it admittedly can also yield brilliant results). You WORKED at it. Really impressed with your skill at painting, by the way. Keep it up! I remember that when I was a child I dreamed of being an artist. But my family kept telling me that art is something useless and you can't make a living out of it etc. In the end my family won the argument and I never became a real artist, just a hobbyist of sorts. But looking at the trends around the world, perhaps my family was right after all? Ah, the complexities of life...

@@frankoptis I reiterate; AI image generator bros are not artists, they are participating in theft. That skill will never be honed if that person is just using a machine to take pieces of others’ art and smash them together to make a picture.

@ how is AI like photoshop? I’m very curious, since photoshop takes learned skill and needs artistic input to produce a final product. How is the use of Photoshop equivalent to typing “girl with armor and white hair and fire behind her” and waiting? Edit: you could argue that photoshop is essentially taking many images and putting them together to make a picture. True! Some artists use photobashing for concept art - is taking pieces of pictures and merging them to create environments. However, that takes work. It takes skill, effort, and time. It takes hours of blending and tweaking something “just so” to make a picture. Photoshop is the brush in a painter’s hands. Our definitions of “artist” or “art” seems to vastly differ. The google definition of “artist” is “One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts.” “A person whose work shows exceptional creative ability or skill.” Artist; a person who uses their honed skills (and by skills, I am referring to their countless hours of learning how to draw more than some squiggly lines) to produce paintings, sculptures, etc. Art, according to Google; “The conscious use of the imagination in the production of objects intended to be contemplated or appreciated as beautiful, as in the arrangement of forms, sounds, or words.” Art; the use of consciousness and skill to make something beautiful. Perhaps you’d say “oh, well I’m writing a story into the image generator and sorting through all the results for a good one. I used five whole words to get just what I wanted from this AI image site. Therefore, my ‘human effort’ makes this art, and I am, therefore, an artist”. To that, I say, “Bah humbug”
When the power goes out, you can keep working. AI can be unplugged. You can't. AI is dependent on real artists for its material in the first place. I know a lot of artists who have fully incorporated AI into their workflow, they do a sketch run it through AI, Paint over it, run it through AI, and when they're happy they do some finishing touches to it and it has massively increased the amount of work they output. I refuse to use it, even as a tool, I know it's here to stay, and I know it's only going to get worse, but I will not use it, if that means I'll never be successful then success isn't worth it.
Keep it real buddy ...your art is incredible ...the sad part is that most of AI ART technology is just referenced from real art by real people merged together 👊❤️

Interesting video! I'm a digital artist self-learning wildlife and fantasy creature art. I essentially have no popular social media for the reason that is AI bros, only Cara and non-AI Discord servers. Personally I found the AI image to just be cool looking, but that was it. It might have fit the brief a bit more, but the colour choices and all were made based on a popular algorithm. You, as a human artist, would be able to use colours to influence the way we feel when looking at the painting, because art at the end of the day is communication, and AI doesn't understand that. It doesn't understand why red evokes a different feeling than blue. You do. Keep your head up! You provide value with your human made art that AI simply cannot replicate!
People who comment stuff like "ai can do it better", is people bitter because they can't do anything and whant to make artist feel as they feel themselves, I love art, and for me being able to create a work of beauty is something priceless, for me art is a part of human's soul, life and porpuse.
Art shouldn't be quick or easy. Watching you paint was so satisfying. I'm... okay at art, but I find it a more of a struggle now than a pleasure. So sometimes I use AI, but JUST for fun. I would never try to claim it as mine or try to sell it as such. The latest use was a picture of my D&D character, but I think of it more as a placeholder until I find somone who's art style I like and comission them to do a proper protrait. Nothing wrong with AI, but like EVERYTHING new that people get their hands on, the first thing they seem to do is abuse it. Don't be too discouraged. AI will never replace real art. Lovely video and a lovely painting.
I've not had nearly as many shorts views as that. That's bonkers, well done. I can't believe how rude some people are online. I think much of it is just projection. Instead of looking in the mirror, it's easier for them to point outwards. Also I think shorts tend to be a different audience to the main channel viewers. But there have also been some lovely comments left on the shorts too. I just think in general, shorts viewers tend to be more impatient.
Any single thing an artist does, no matter how simple--even a messy, scrawled line--is better than the "best" "art" any AI ever spat out, simply because a person did it. Full stop. Your work is beautiful. Keep being a real human artist.

I don't want a robot waiter to serve me in a cafe or restaurant. I don't consider something made with artificial intelligence to be a work of art. It's a fashion. A work of art means "soul". Fashions pass, the soul is eternal. Artificial intelligence can imitate Van Gough, but it's not him. Art and artists will always exist.
Robot waiters are already happening... I hope our future world is a better one from now, not a worse one. If robots are replacing humans, I can only hope it does the remaining humans any good. I can't see it, but I hope.
The problem is not everyone looks at art the same way. Some, and I fear to say most, just want that pretty picture to put on their wall, on their website, in their book, on their logo and so forth and don't care for the human being behind it. Those who appreciate art look at the creation and the intention behind it, appreciate the skill of the person who crafted it, admire the craft itself. That creates value, which helps the artists live and continue to create more. What I fear most i AI diminishing artists when it ironically only copies the ones that came before, and that the end result will eventually be stagnation and a kind of bland sameness to the art we encounter in our every day lives as the pool of real art it draws from grows less and less. What a dreary and depressing outlook.

I hope you never stop painting! As someone who loves generating ai art myself, I also just love seeing masters at work! There's obviously something about human created art, especially your style, that is so inspiring! I've watched many of your videos and I really want to try painting something "irl" (lol do we have to specify that now). I just like using AI art to enhance my imagination since I don't have the talent, patience, or money, to learn/hire your talent.
I think the problem with ai is not the can create bit, but the I have something I want and AI CANNOT get close at all to it, and if it does I have no way of making it fix the little issues without rolling the dice again. If I want a simple 32x32 sprite, then AI is absolutely useless. If I want a scene with very specific details. AI can't do that at all.
I love what you said near the end when adding abstractions to your painting, "I really enjoyed the challenge". THIS. This is the point, guys! We actually LIKE what we do. Learning and challenging ourselves brings us JOY. We never asked for these shortcuts created through stolen art.
those people who say "ai can do better" are losers and insecure that they cant draw who aspire to be an artist but quit because they cant draw/paint and resorted to ai art
Agree so much with you. Most people don't realize that one thing is seeing a piece of NON-DIGITAL art on a screen, and an entirely different one is seeing it live. I've used AI for quick images I needed for workshops and events, but nothing beats the texture that pigment and strokes of paint/charcoal/whatever give to even the most realistic looking paintings. Even in printed media, I'm yet to see an AI-illustrated children's book (which now abounds) that comes close to beating the truly masterful. Of course, at some point, some genius will have the idea of giving a robot brushes of different sizes. But then, what's the point?
I think there is a future where people that can actually create painted art become even more special (as well as the art they create) as it becomes something that is rare, takes time and skill. People knit jumpers, make pottery, create music, grow food in their garden now in spite of there being far quicker, cheaper alternatives. In a world of AI people that have skills will still stand out and be special and rewarded for their talents. Who wants a AI print on their wall or a real painting?
I love your art and I'm using a lot of your tutorials to paint. The wolf turned out so beautiful like always :) But the AI one is in a completely different style and format so I don't know if it's fair to compare both of these pieces. The prompt should be similar to your idea and of course the format (like on ideogram you can choose if the image would be square or 3x4 or whatever and it's for free). I sometimes help myself with AI but only to see if my idea is even good or if I should think about something else to draw. It's sad to see so many AI art everywhere... and how fast it becomes better and better. I don't think it will take away all our customers and fans but surely it will take a lot of them. The worst thing is that AI steals our style and uses it...
I don't actually paint or draw much, but I have experienced something similar regarding AI. In my free time, I write books, and after finishing a 650 page fantasy novel that I spent thousands of hours on, the first question from one of my co workers was: Did you generate that with ChatGPT? I was honestly speechless and also frustrated. To prove that my book wasn't AI generated, I let ChatGPT write one and it was complete garbage. There were no character arcs, some of the characters didn't even have a purpose, the story basically lead nowhere with absolutely no conclusion or lesson you could learn from and there were countless plot holes. It felt like reading something that a toddler wrote but with the wording of an adult. And the worst part is, that my co worker liked the AI story almost as much as my own. It seems like ordinary people that don't understand much about art can't identify what makes it unique, and I have the feeling, this problem will only grow in the future.
Please don’t pay any attention to the trolls, nothing will ever replace hand painted art because it comes from the heart and the imperfections etc just shows the human side… these are things AI doesn’t take into account.
Why doesn't AI art take that into account? its trained on human inputs / data. If anything, AI makes more mistakes than most professional artists right now
There is a way to ACTUALLY test this. This is how you design the experiment: pick a theme, and then you paint something rellating to that theme. Someone who is pro ai art generates an ai pictures rellating to the theme, and picks their favourite. You can't see each others art throughout this entire experiment. They need to be the same size and printed on the same material (take a picture of your painting and print it out). Then a third person, who doesn't know which one is the ai art and which is the human art, will walk around and ask 100 random people to pick their favorite out of the two. Obviously they should ask in the same way evey time and not add details to sqew the random persons opinion. The 100 random people can not know what the experiemt is actually about when the pick.
I support this method. It's accuracy could be upgraded though. One should use multiple images from multiple artists and from AI. And use ELO system to do a comparison.
I'm not sure if whether or not it's "better" is the right question to ask. Advanced Dota AI (not the vs. bots mode that comes with the game) can absolutely crush human players even with multiple forms of handicap placed on it. Yet the DOTA league doesn't allow AI to compete, because everyone realizes that is complete BS. The question is, why do we allow AI to compete with humans in the real world, but not in games?

I gave up painting for business just before AI really became mainstream but to be honest before that the algorythms were already ruining my creativity and there's no point being an artist if you are going to let an algorythmn dictate what art you create. At that point you are not an artist but a slave to tech. Good video and congrats on managing to be a successful artist despite everything working against you!
Been taking photos since the 70s. Processed my own film, printed my own work. Digital arrived and took away a lot of what I enjoyed about photography: The whole process from buying film, taking the photos, processing. Digital was too easy, way too easy. You can just shoot until you get it right. But wait, nothing about composition changed. And then I found astrophotography and macro photography with focus-stacking. No second chances in either of those domains: You set things up correctly at the start or don't bother. Photography was challenging again. Yes, I've sold some of my work but nothing can replace the sense of achievement after producing a good image or timelapse. AI can be very good and I'm sure it will get better but, it still needs good images to 'learn' from. Same for music. All those tones you get out of an electric piano (a good one) exist because someone knows and recorded the notes. The 'art" is not dead.
@@PhilJonesIII I love photography in all its forms, I love painting in all its forms. I giggle every time someone says that painting or photography is becoming obsolete when AI exists. You can create your unique art style, trademark it, train an AI with it, sell the art of your AI or the AI itself, and get much more money that you ever would doing art by yourself. In the end you get more money, and people get art cheaper and faster. See? AI helps everyone 🥰
The real to remember is that AI cannot really be creative, beyond what it has seen and read online. . . If you wanna challenge AI, you need to challenge the creativity. AI uses your work to create something on its own. But can it actually think outside the box?
It boils down to "Why make music when you can listen to music?" "Why paint, when you can look at a painting?". It really is that silly. The act of creation IS the point. Seeing what that person's entire life up until now has created, with a million subtle influences. That's the point. The AI creates cool things. Great! And? You may as well say to someone making a song not to bother because Hans Zimmer exists.
Great video! I never got to see the AI version of the wolf compared to yours. I think yours is so much better from I saw in the care and human touches you gave your painting with real paint. There is still lots of room for real painters in our world as people do appreciate real art.
Great video. I recently took a cruise out of LA, and stayed at a hotel made out of an old Titanic style cruise ship, the Queen Mary, before getting on an almost brand new Carnival cruise liner. While the new cruiser obviously had many more amenities and such, it missed the shear epic hand detailed craftsmanship of the Queen Mary. Thats what AI is missing at the moment, but with it's current advancements, I don't think it will for long.
A problem in our time is that many people see photorealistic art as the highest form of art. This fact shows that many people do not understand art at all. Art is not about hyperrealistic images or generally realistic representations. An artist expresses emotions and makes these emotions noticeable in the images. That is something that AI cannot do. AI has no emotions because AI is not alive. The problem is not AI, we are the problem. We interpret something into this AI that is not at all what it seems to be.
Damn that's pretty! As a young artist I inspire to have an eye for detail like that and the way you add the abstractness to it with the pallet knife is incredibly done. I don't care how good AI art gets there's just something about the feeling of a pen on paper, a brush against a canvas or pastels against the gritty surface of a board that just feels so freeing art is life for me, the feeling of making something from nothing with your own two hands is something I could never give up no matter how discouraged I get.
The thing impressive about your Work is the tallent, effort and the sorrow that went into to it. If the AI image would have required 5 Children to sacrificed in a Volcano in order to compute that wolf, we would be very impressed by it.

@@peggyeaster5272 Yes it is. Loved your comment. So true.

I'm not sure if the sequence around 05:30 was only intended to be a joke, but I found it very deep. I think it brillantly showed the bottom of the problem: above all we are doing art because we like it, we enjoy the process, it brings something meaningful to us. AI is just emptiness.

In the hands of someone with a genuine vision and care for what they are doing (aka, an artist) AI tools can be used to create something really wonderful.
(or let's call them AI pictures...)
I feel that this stuff will make media even more soulless and corporate than it is today - consume, consume.
(I'm not a pro artist, by the way)
Lots of cluster-B disorders around, and underdeveloped empathy.
Money comes first
I mean, artists (in the specific sense of painters or sculptors) may be sort of safe. But illustrators have had a hard time even before AI. Now AI is simply replacing stock images.

Those people don't understand that AI isn't an acheivement. It's ordering food from a restaurant, putting it on your own plates, and letting your guests think you made it yourself. AI is just keywords and theft. Any artwork created by people contains actual emotion. AI can't do that.
There are alot of people who post pictures of food they didn't make.

Stay confident, individual art can never be replaced.

This was soo much fun to watch :) What a wonderful wolf painting you painted Daniel
So for all these AI hacks, they will simply be generating soulless characters anyone else can come along and snatch out from under them and do their own thing with. Once enough of that happens AI will lose its shiny new look.
@@AmbientShadeswhat are you talking about? You can add your own input. Well as an artist I don't understand people who said that. Where's the fun in tryna mix colors and make shapes. It’s like saying “all an LLM (ChatGPT for instance) does is read a book and then spit it back and “steal” the writer’s work”, when it’s far more complex than that. AI art models use training data, like every other-kinda like using reference. They don’t “steal” anything.

They may finally be able to express the images in their heads without putting in the time and effort, but they are not artists lol

@ AI Image Generation is just like Photoshop. Where is the problem?
The google definition of “artist” is “One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts.”
“A person whose work shows exceptional creative ability or skill.”
Artist; a person who uses their honed skills (and by skills, I am referring to their countless hours of learning how to draw more than some squiggly lines) to produce paintings, sculptures, etc.
Art, according to Google; “The conscious use of the imagination in the production of objects intended to be contemplated or appreciated as beautiful, as in the arrangement of forms, sounds, or words.”
Art; the use of consciousness and skill to make something beautiful.
Lastly, there is an organization that formed to allow artists to opt out their work from AI generators in the first place. I can't remember the name right now. Will post it when I find it.
Edit: Copyright Alliance is name of the group fighting for legislation to protect artists' original work from being used in AI generators without their permission.

Or you can embrace both lol.
Such luddite statement to make.

There's no competition, the heart shines brighly in one and not the other. NOTHING can ever replace that, keep up the brushstrokes🎉
Ay I think you better stay Painting, Daniel!
The only loser here is you. It's convenient to judge people by your idiotic views, isn't it?
That was brilliantly done. Had me laughing a lot. Great job. 👏 ❤
6:14 That fur looks amazing , I like how heavy and fluffly it looks .
Honestly, your underpainting has more expressiveness and feeling than the AI finished piece. Keep doing what you’re doing!
I think Amazon's lord pf the rings spin off must have been written by ai... Beca it aso lacked plot arc, etc.
it probably wasn't that good, that's why your coworkers asked you that.
@@Buste123 He asked it before reading.
@@nicinator then it's not an AI problem, your co-workers are just human trash.
This is exactly why people use AI : "It seems like ordinary people that don't understand much about art can't identify what makes it unique"
I had the "did you make your art using A.I?" as well. A time will come when people will realize it is too late, when A.I has taken over everything.
The problem isn't ai, it's people who leave comments on TH-cam.
Your picture was stunning
you are incredibly talented. AI is just not in the same realm
@@andrewaverbah4809 Yes, obviously several scientists should repeat the study. I'm not sure what the elo system would add in this situation?
@@StroominPrime Do you want X to be better or worse? Substitute X for whatever concept or word you like. Maybe "better art" compared to "worse art" isn't super important to a lot of people. But better enegnering, better inventions, better medicin, better safety, better programming; what about those? (Better irregarles of if they are made by ai or human. "Better" is better no matter who made it.)
Does the ai bots make DOTA competitions better or worse?
@@riksstaden4927 I'm saying better and worse are the wrong ways to look at art. That's not the important question to ask. Engineering, medicine, safety, those are fields where lives are at risk. The purpose of those endeavors is to protect lives. The purpose of art is to communicate. Show me a bot with anything real to communicate. You can't.
and yes, ofc using bots in competitive events would make it worse, next you're gonna be asking me if bringing a car to a marathon would make it worse
You win, yours is beautiful! I hate AI art. I also hate that people may lose their creativity with writing too.
Your painting feels alive, vibrant and full of emotion.
The AI image is "cool" for like 2 seconds and that's it you stop paying attention to it.
What is the point of painting when you can just take a photo? - some photo bro circa 1869
It's like saying that playing the violin is a waste of time because there are synths.
The point of art to me is not the result, it's the act of overcoming something bigger than oneself.
Never stop creating my friend.
@@aliceberethart Like skiing (which I also love). You pay good money to take a lift to the top of a mountain, just to slide back down again in one piece. Pointless? Yea, unless you are doing it.
My son (40) took up film photography recently. I still have a lot of kit and together, we are having a ball. No price on that.
Life is about doing stuff.
You can create your unique art style, trademark it, train an AI with it, sell the art of your AI or the AI itself, and get much more money that you ever would doing art by yourself. In the end you get more money, and people get art cheaper and faster. See? AI helps everyone 🥰
And he doesn‘t even have to do art anymore - he must love that idea as an artist
@@flyversusfly76 He doesn't HAVE to do anymore, but he can keep doing it if he want to.
Yeah thats the only ethical way to make AI art, but something tells me 99.9% of actual artists with skill won't be doing that.
Your painting invokes so much emotion, beautiful, really. AI "art" is as shallow as it can get. And not just this one, all of it
The real to remember is that AI cannot really be creative, beyond what it has seen and read online. . . If you wanna challenge AI, you need to challenge the creativity. AI uses your work to create something on its own. But can it actually think outside the box?
I love how silly and comedic this video was, I hope you make more vids in this style!
God, the amount of salt dripping off every second of this is wonderful XD
Your painting turned out beautiful btw!
Your joking your painting is way better! The AI one is more of a print, yours is a fabulous painting! Your painting is awesome!
People commenting that "AI can do better" don't realise that the artwork that's generated by an AI generator was originally DRAWN by an artist.
Great video! I never got to see the AI version of the wolf compared to yours. I think yours is so much better from I saw in the care and human touches you gave your painting with real paint. There is still lots of room for real painters in our world as people do appreciate real art.
keep going with the palette knife! it would look amazing for the fur on the wolf, to give it more depth!
I would cringe so hard if I saw someone have AI 'painting' hanging in their room. Absolutely tasteless.
YOUR art is exceptional. I was so shocked when you said it was acrylic!!!! You win the contest👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Cool video. 😂 Your artwork is so much better then AI. 👍🏼😃
The thing impressive about your Work is the tallent, effort and the sorrow that went into to it. If the AI image would have required 5 Children to sacrificed in a Volcano in order to compute that wolf, we would be very impressed by it.
No comparrison to be made! I know what I would want on my wall and it is definatelly NOT the AI one!
