- I talk about the good and bad aspects of the cube. I think it's really good, and it certainly is better than alternatives like the Valk/GTS2M (in my opinion), but not by very much. So if price is a big factor for you, I recommend the Valk/GTS2M instead.

I bought the cube about 5 months ago and with your help from the videos i got from like 28sec down to 19sec while training every day with the GAN Air SM

A Rubik's Brand and use the Petrus method and get the WR ( for the slowest cuber in the world)

most of them will break before u can complete your cross lol
i had that 30rs cube when i didnt know how to solve the cube
i just used to rotate randomly without finger tricks and one day the cube suddenly felt easier to turn and while turning it popped and broke. i dont remember what exactly did break but something did lol

love this cube so much.. only been cubing for about a month or two and i've always used rubik's brand, having such a high-tier but not too advanced cube is amazing for beginners, i know it's kind of outdated but it's got everything a beginner is looking for. Would definitely recommend to any beginners or if you have some extra money lying around

Right now my main is in between a couple cubes. The gts2m mass produced is really nice, and my yuexiao pro with original yuexiao springs and n42 magnets is good. I also like my magnetic mf3rs2 and magnetic little magic. I highly recommend magnetizing those with lighter magnets.
This is the first proper cube (after a 2$ cube) that I bought, I didn't even look at articles or videos, just picked a random one with nice color and shape. Turns out, this cube is just GREAT!

Hey, your thoughts about needing a relaxed turning style to avoid catches and lockups was exactly what I said too in my video :P. Cool to see we both agree on that. I also feel like my goal turning style would suit the SM very well, that's another reason it's my main.
Cool! That's an interesting point, I used to love the GTS1 because it forced me to relax my turning by so much and the tensions had to be pretty loose for it to be any good. I feel like my style changes over time and the valk is a really nice contrast to this when im not feeling like i can turn relaxed enough lol. Maybe that's why i mained the valk for a while. Do you change mains often?
That's pretty interesting, I love the Valk for pretty much similar reasons. If the SM didn't exist, the Valk would still be my main. And, no I don't really change mains much, and that's probably because I don't give too many cubes a good chance. I reckon I'll be happy with these 2 for awhile.
Ok same actually i never take time to setup cubes or anything haha i'm too lazy.

Hahaha that's so funny. I haven't swapped out the GES nuts of my SM at all, and not a single drop of lube has gone into it the thousands of solves I've put into it 😂. Yeah I'll be pretty similar to you, at a comp next week I'll prob use the Valk for OH and the SM for 3x3

My SM came loose and so fast out of the box, so I decided to put in the yellow GES nuts, tighten it, and I will put silk, and it was awesome! I avg around 20 and I got a sub-20 ao5 and got couple of 16s solves so it's my main now :)
I received this cube about 2 months ago, and I love it. Its so much smoother than my other gans (Gan356 and Gan356 Air) My PB increased by a few seconds. This cube was definitely worth the $60
yeah it's a huge upgrade over the standard air, which was already a huge upgrade over the 356. i think if any cube is going to be worth $50+, it's this cube.

I really love my SM! it fits my turning style better than all of my previous mains because of how stable it is, how smooth it is, how my solves flow so good and that it doesn't lock up on me especially when its last layer I can just execute PLL with ease. The only thing I do not like about it is how fast it eats lube and I need to lube it like every week.
mine has been pretty good with lube, but i know what you mean. my regular air (not SM) basically cannot be lubed for a decent period of time.

I got a gans air that i really didn't like, the valk 3 has always been my favorite. I was about to get this but then learned about the valk 3 power. Only have the money for 1 so gotta stick with what works for me
The SM is currently my main. But one major problem is that the stickers on the white and blue side keeps getting peeled off while the other stickers are fine.

Me and my friends thought reverse cutting was normal cutting, and now our cubes do almost 45° reverse cutting :S

This was my main for three years, only now in 2023 am I planning on potentially switching... Have the Gan Freeplay UI 12 and the Tornado V3 and I switch between them depending on whether I want the connectivity or not. The Tornado V3 and Gan 12 Freeplay UI feel very similar.
I have the cubicle premium with green nuts and it's soft and mushy, not sluggish, but it has a super soft feeling
while you were talking about that dnf i actually got an h perm because i was solving while watching the video (i suck at h perms)

Great you went over the cons. I have seen most of the people just talking about it to be the greatest cube(which it may be), saying it is perfect(which nothing earthly is)
yeah it's not perfect but it's one of the closest things so far, alongside the valk or valk M in my opinion. i haven't tried the valk power yet though

Ive had my air master for a few years now and after ndot using it for a year or two ive started using it agian. Ive learnt f2l and changed from yellow ges to green. The cube is unlubed but i feel like i can turn quicker with the greeges

I agree with you but I think GTS2M can handle rough turning if set up properly. Plus you have more customizability with the GTS2M as it is compatible with any MoYu/QiYi springs. The catch is you get a ton of stuff with the SM anyway so I guess $50 is kinda worth it for sub30 cubers....

Hey J Perm, in one of your videos you talk about using edge orientation to determine rotation, but in others you talk about how you should insert in the back slots. How do you balance these ideas in F2L? Thanks!

Once you predict the rotation, rotate so that it's going into the back slot. These 2 ideas should only help each other :)
And to clarify, having to rotate means y/y' are both ok. Only special cases (ones with F moves) require you to be facing a certain side. If it's just LU or RU moves, you can be facing the front or back it doesn't matter

Yeah i wasn't sponsored back when i had the GTS2M so i rarely got to get new cubes. I also enjoy switching once in a while because I believe the current cubes are at mostly the same level, and it's my preference that shifts over time.

My MF3RS2 came in today. It’s pretty good, the springs make a lot of noise though. Does lube fix this or do I have to do something with the springs?
yeah you can lube the springs with a heavy silicone lube (because they last longer)

Here's my opinion about the SM: It's for sure an upgrade from the UM, but I don't think it's worth it for 50$, for me, it's way too much. I mean, you can use like a regular Valk and get around the same times; I average 17 seconds, so I'm not very fast, but I think that the SM is NOT worth it.

I got the cubicle pro shop version which was a great idea. I love this puzzle it was an instant main and should be for months. It was so good. Apparently, a thief thought it was good as well and stole it when I left it so I have to buy another but it hardly takes away from how good it is. It is thief approved.

my sm has spring noise and its turning is sometimes squeaky. putting some (sorry jperm) lubicle silk helped. any suggestions.
I bought it when I still didn't know Cfop (I still don't), and went from 45 to 23 seconds.I also learnt some new stuff to get faster lol
I feel like the gan 11m pro has he stability of the sm but the corner cutting and the customization of the xs combined
Do you still have to tension the cube or just tighten the nut all the way
get the top of the nut to be approximately in line with the metal part. tensions still matter a bit, but most people just get them in line and only tweak the colors
I have a Gans um and sm but personally I like the um better because it is faster and has better corner cutting but that is probably my sm

I like the feel and the performance of this cube, but I find that I'm much too inconsistent on it. Before Puget Sound last week I last minute started practicing with a Valk M instead, and ended up getting a 9.36 official average. I believe that I'm a lot more consistent on cubes like the Valk due to it's controllability. My point is, it's a good cube, but not everyone will be able to use it well.
Yeah i know what you mean. I got a horrible average in second round due to my hands being cold, and i feel like cold hands affect me more with this cube than the valk due to higher sensitivity to my actions. Like it's really good when i'm feeling good, but other times it's just a normal cube again lol.

You didn’t mention about the honeycomb design.
FOR 4-way algorithms (n perm, h perm) I prefer to do the AUF before the algorithm itself.
