    Fun fact: the song played With a trombone mouthpiece in an alto sax is frequently used for movies and tv shows in Arabic settings. But it isn’t Arabic. It was written for the worlds fair in Chicago in 1893. They had a belly dancer exhibit but had problems hiring actual musicians to accompany them. They were able to get the correct instruments though, so one of the musicians they did have there wrote that song just for the fair. Because it wasn’t a real song, it was free from copyright, making it really easy and free to use in movies so it stuck

      The song's origins begin some time before the World's Fair of 1893. However, even then, the song's origins are still unknown aside from their two famous appearances. In 1845, a German musician named Franz Hüten likely drew inspiration from a French musician names Christophe Ballard. Ballard wrote and published a piece titled, "Colin Prend Sa Hotte" in 1719. Both Ballard and Hüten's pieces shared the same first five notes at its start. At the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, artist James Thornton debuted his own rendition with the same beginning notes. This piece was named, "The Streets of Cairo; or, The Poor Little Country Maid," and it shared those same beginning notes which all of these pieces share. The song they owe inspiration to is a lost Algerian song from the 17th Century called, "Kradoudja." So, in truth, while it may not be Egyptian, it is still hailing from Algerian roots. Both are African nations, so it only makes sense that they would share similar, yet still very distinct, musical identities. The wonders of music transcending their cultural bounds are usually quite beautiful.
      (James Hüten lived in the 19th Century, Christophe Ballard lived in the 18th Century, and the lost song is from the 17th.)
      [And just in case anyone gets confused by the naming convention]⌉
      (Don't worry, me too) ⎸

    Insane that it actually works at all. I always wondered why brass extends the tube and woodwind covers holes, but I guess it doesn't matter.

      @Reaktron88 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ludwiglanestudios Yeah thats why it's hard because you need to adjust your embouchure, to increase by a semitone, rather than using the valves. You can actually do that on any brass instrument, but french horn is designed around that.

    Alright look, I will not stand for this Saxopet (alternative name being Strumpet or Trumphone) slander. I did the same thing in high school with my friend who played sax. I played the mouthpiece while they worked the fingerings. Gotta say, It honestly sounded pretty good and I feel like it'd be a good fit for Jazz music (which may sound obvious, but it sounds like it fits better than just straight sax or trumpet imo. It sounds weird since both are jazz instruments, but I feel the same about sax mouthpiece + trumpet.)
    And yes. I know what Strumpet means.
