We didn't know anything until my 12 years old daughter was sent into ICU this Aug. because of ketoacidosis. It's horrible experience for our family. After we went back from hospital, she started her daily life of injecting insulin. About one month of her using insulin, she began keto diet. At the beginning, she ate 3 times a day. Bit by bit, she eats 2 times a day. Now she has stopped using insulin daytime and night time usage for over one month, her blood sugar is below 120 most of time. In the following, my daughter will try fasting more long time to hope to let her insulin cells recover. By the way, she rides bicycle 10km and fast running 1 or 2 miles and practices volleyball over 1 hour every day. Eating nutritional yeast and electrolyte everyday. Any further development of her I will go to share with you. I hope more type1 diabetes people know they can live a better and healthier life. Thanks Dr. Berg. If we haven't met you, I don't know how tough life my lovely daughter would have. Appreciated.

What an inspiring story. Thanks for sharing. When I was diagnosed in 1998, aged 15, I would have killed for this information. Hopefully, I can reverse all the damage now, after medical professionals telling me for years to favour high carbohydrate diets.

Hi, my 10yr old nephew was in ICU last week bz of high sugars, she had 550, currently doctors are diagonising her, but her recovery is zero as she is completely dependent on external insulin.
Now bz I use Apple cider vinegar to control my mom's type 2 diabetes, (haven't seen the video so eager to ask), bz doctor has avoided anything except wht they hv recommended, can you help me by letting me know whether YOU HAVE USED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to recover....It would really help us and giv us the hope

    • @jenny395791
      @jenny395791 ปีที่แล้ว +14

@@lifetech4146 Apple cider vinegar won't treat or cure type 1 diabetes, & all humans require insulin to live, even non-diabetics.
However, following a low carb, high fat diet will significantly decrease the amount of insulin needed, but for type 1 diabetics, careful monitoring is needed whilst eating a ketogenic diet.
During the presence of high blood sugar and high ketones, the pH of the blood will become too acidic, causing ketoacidosis. This is a medical emergency, & it nearly killed me in 2019.
If blood glucose is at a safe level but the blood contains ketones, it just means that your body is in ketosis & it is nothing to worry about.
But please, please don't advise insulin dependent people to swap their insulin injections for apple cider vinegar, as this is dangerous advice.
      Hope this helps.

      @@jenny395791 Thanks for the help..
I now learnt that we shldnt be too quick to advice without experience and expertise..thks a lot
But will it be any issue if we use ACV, to increase the sensitivity of insulin thereby reducing the it's quantity.

    • @jenny395791
      @jenny395791 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@lifetech4146 ACV has some great benefits, & according to Google, it can help naturally lower blood sugar, but my advice to you is that all diabetics should not miss any of their diabetes medication whilst using ACV, until they are confident enough to slowly & safely reduce the amount of their medication. This will require regular blood glucose checks throughout the day, every day to make sure that the glucose levels are at a normal level.
So the takeaway from my message is, prioritise blood sugar readings over anything else. I learnt the hard way unfortunately, but hopefully my experience of high blood sugar can help others 😊

I am from India. My ancestors used to say "Never eat after sunset". Modern people here call it superstitious but what my ancestors meant was "Never eat too late and have good gap between dinner and your sleep". Here in India, the sunset occurs between 6.00 p.m - 7.00 p.m. depending upon season.

Type 1 also, plus a multitude of other autoimmune illnesses since that diagnosis (diagnosed at 13).
I've been experimenting with keto for years. I'd always thought that I felt better eating meat and vegetables before I'd even heard of keto.
I'd heard of the carnivore diet (meat, eggs, butter etc.) but disregarded it. Thought they were extreme and unnecessary for myself.
Cooked roast beef, wasn't hungry so didn't do anything else, just cut off some beef and ate some around lunch time. Was satiated ALL day, full of energy, cognition was improved and thought hmm interesting (I also recalled Jordan Peterston and his daughter living on beef and lamb). Intrigued, I looked into the carnivore diet. Came across some advocates, Dr Philip Ovadia (heart surgeon), Dr Anthony Chaffee (neurosurgeon), Dr Ken Berry (GP), Professor Bart Kay (who left his career lecturing in university because what he'd found didn't line up with the agenda being pushed). Judy Cho (not a doctor but nutritionist) she is all about the evidence.
Let me tell you my mind was blown. I realised why I'd felt so sick after eating a lot of vegetables and almonds n all that. I felt better on keto, definitely. Nothing compared to carnivore.
So after listening to podcasts and lectures by these doctors and others, hearing all these testimonials, I thought I'd try it for 4-6 weeks.
I had blood tests at the doctors at the end of the month.
Everything indicating inflammation in my body had decreased. My HbA1c decreased by 8 points. My ferratin increased by 20 (I had been anaemic since 2007, had transfusions etc but it didn't change much). My thyroid levels, which had not been in normal range for nearly 3 years, were actually normal!!! I'd tried for 3 years to normalise them with the doctors, never worked yet I had teeth fall out, I had other bad side effects from high vs low thyroid levels.
      1 month!! Just 1 month!!!
Dr Anthony Chaffee is amazing, his discussions about "Plants are trying to kill you" was a light bulb moment.
I've never been this well, even with keto.
Please, anybody reading, just look up some of who I've mentioned. My favourites are the neurosurgeon Anthony Chaffee and Judy Cho (nutrition with Judy). I devoured information for a while before I made the leap . It's not a fad diet, we've been lied to more than we realised. Keto is a start. We need more meat (I also had a brain injury, problems concerning neurology, rheumatology, endocrinology, on top of diabetes. I've been through all the departments, it's been hell until now. Please just try it 🙏

Kudos to your guest for his excellent control ! I have been a T1D for 10 years, diagnosed at age 57. I followed the ADA A1C recommendation until a naturopathic doctor told me I needed to get my numbers under a 6, or I would be look at 5% brain shrinkage a year. I went home, researched, mostly in neuro journals, and found this doctor was correct. Quickly I altered my already altered diet, even more, going keto and intermittent fasting and now average an A1C of 5-5.2.
Strangely enough, my current functional doctor wants it higher, quoting me the Accord study. I again went home and researched and next visit I told him he quoted me information from a type II diabetic study of overweight, statin using, high BP patients! He had more explanation and while he might be somewhat right, he accepts my disagreement.
I have an insulin pump that doses a basal amount every hour, Around 16-17 units in 24 hours. My bolus insulin averages around 6 units a day, mostly due to coffee and some monk fruit.
Twice, in the past 24 hours ( we have company) I have been scolded for not eating! I explain that I eat when I am hungry, and I also explain that yes, I have plenty of energy.
We are conditioned as a society to eat three meals a day and for diabetics to eat 5 small meals a day.

That being said it’s important that it’s know and said- insulin is necessary and life saving for type one diabetics. We need long acting insulin to survive.

I am also very interested in hearing if taking stem cells and pancreatic glandular could actually reverse the autoimmune form of T1D. ...for my child's sake this matters a great deal to me. Please make a video on this if you can Dr. Berg. Keto is already helping her TREMENDOUSLY! Many thanks!

Congrats to you and your daughter for doing Keto! As a researcher and a fellow T1D (autoimmune), I would suggest being cautious with stem cell transplants. They are done outside of the US for other disorders but I have not heard of a successful approach with T1D. Yet. And any cell transplant for a healthy child would have to as close to risk-free as possible.
Is your daughter recently diagnosed? If so, there are different interventions that parents are trying (outside of diet), with some success. Personally, I've had success with alpha lipoic acid (ALA) to lower insulin needs, and with enzymes to digest certain foods better. Straight pancreatin didn't seem to help me, but it may be different for a child or newly diagnosed T1d.

Thanks for sharing your story I will tell you something, my son was diagnosed at age 7 he got ill all of a sudden and then got diabetes. Diabetes is not a mistery for us but only type 2 diabetes ran in the family. My father my grandfather and grandmother and uncles, my aunties etc. My father was a nurse so I knew how to prevent and handle it. My son at age 7 graduated from Memphis diabetes auto care and it is like a miracle he does everything on his own. Now to the interesting story, I am diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis another autoimmune disease, my mother with reumathoid arthritis, my sister with chronic inflamation too. I was in bed for a long time with my MS, I watched your channel and learned about vitamin D and K2 and added that to my list of vitamins and supplements including Alpha L acid, Turmeric, Cod Liver Oil, quercetin, niagen and removed bad carbs from my diet. I also went to Honduras and got two BCG vaccine shots which reinforced my immune system and now I am free of MS symptoms. I think the BCG vaccine resets the immune system for diabetes type 1 patients and autoimmune issues. Main point is all of these diseases feed on carbs and bad nutrition using oils that will cause inflammation just use olive oil or avocado oil. Take suplements that are anti-inflammatory and you will keep these diseases at bay for a longer time. God bless you all and thanks for sharing Manuel's story I can show it to my son he is now 13. Vyacite is almost finished with their project for diabetes type 1 this is the Ultimate Solution for a substitute pancreas medical device that will provide a normal life for diabetes patients.

6 months later he was diagnosed with diabetes. Than the craziness started. To make a long story short he was on the roller coaster. Insulin not enough, foods not regulated . Eating earlier to align with the circadian rhythms is what I strive to do! I don’t know if what I’m attempting to do currently could be considered OMAD, but it was pretty helpful with digestion the day before, after a 48 hour fast.
Post bile salts, I replaced those with ginger and fennel seed and on my first office break of the day (after the 48 hour fast) I have these with some butter to get my juices flowing. Then two hours later I begin lunch (I do all of this at work), and lunch would usually be my OMAD for the day. It gave me such incredible results! I felt the body go after the fat and give my brain and the rest of me energy and it was even easier to concentrate at work! I was only going to do this yesterday but the results were so amazing that I decided to try it again today, but this time I’m adding some sauerkraut and some sea salt to the mix. The practice of priming my gut for proper digestion before lunch may be what I do regularly going forward! Thanks to your advice on what to eat, how much and when, of course.
Thanks to you and your guest, you guys are awesome!

    Cod liver oil.
I have problems with my knees since I fell and suffered ligament damage. So I take supplements which should help with that.
I have Kefir in my diet. I eat organic food whenever possible. I drink only water between the one meal I eat per day and practice intermittent fasting. I have watched a ton of your videos Dr Berg. You have helped me to remain focused, or boost my focus when it starts to fade. I don't have food in the house that I shouldn't eat and that makes it very easy to stick to my diet.
I also find it easy to stick to my diet if I go out for a Sunday dinner with my family.
I'm feeling a lot better in myself. I am sleeping better and everyone tells me how well I am looking. I also feel less stressed, I don't know if its diet related or a coincidence.

Great vid. I’ve been type 1 for 43 years ( possibly due to a seizure from a high fever at age 3.) I have had 3 transient ischemic strokes and I am currently struggling to maintain control of my sugars. I take 1.35 units of humalog per hour through my pump. I generally eat less than 150 grams of carbs per day, and I survive on egg whites and rotisserie chicken.

It has also affected his thyroid, lungs, throat in what appears to be an autoimmune response. This is most interesting video. He did High dose VIt C IV and LDN for his cancer as well and it is gone after 3 chemo treatments and his MD is amazed. Now he has this other problem.

This is honestly helpful information. I was diagnosed when I was 7 years old been into dka 13 times and lead to comas I am 32 and sadly it took me til I was 30 to get it all together. I eliminated the carbs ( bagels, breads, cookies etc ) and mainly focus on veggies and fruits and my sugars have drastically improved the norm for me was 500’s sometimes beyond 600 but now I’m around 109-135 ish but me being human when I slip up and have heavy carbs I see the spikes especially for dinner I use to wake up with high sugars. Also I am on a insulin pump but my goal is to one day not have to take insulin.

with sufficient insulin protein contributes verry little for blood sugar, however with insulin deficiency, gluconeogenesis proceeds rapidly and contributes to an elevated blood glucose level.
Also, protein triggers glucagon so if you have some protein with every meal your blood sugars will remain more stable.

Being a Type 1 diabetic, my understanding is that my body produces insulin, but the “Islets of Longhorn” do not secrete my insulin to the blood cells. Now, I have to pump animal insulin into my fat cells. I’ve been IF and lightweight keto for 4 years now, it’s critical to maintain a better A1C.
Part II: I agree with Manuel’s theory though, you may not be fully Type 1 for some reason. I say that because you’re on Intensive therapy with Lantus for basal and Humalog/Novalog for bolus. 5U a day with OMAD? I’m not confident that’s realistic and I’m super skeptical… I’ve done that with my pump and I still have 30U a day of Lyumjev for OMAD..

My response was that they would be basically like everyone else, until their insulin ran out, whether by spoiling or just running out. Then they die. This was shocking to the person and asked what could be done. I explained that their best bet was to start eating correctly now and get into the daily habit of eating the right foods and basically everything else this video describes. Absolutely minimize the amount of insulin they need even while they have it available because this will help them live better and longer anyway.

My wife recently became T1 earlier this year at 25yo. Staying away from carbs is legit as a T1D! My wife only takes 6 units of long acting and maybe 2-4 units of short acting a day depending on the food. We also found out that by simply drinking water, and moving immediately after taking insulin, the insulin is significantly more efficient and requires less insulin when coupled with those things.
