    Most people don't have their mirrors adjusted properly anyways. Hint, if you can see the side of your car in the mirror you have it wrong.

      This. You're also supposed to lean a little bit to make sure and of course check over tour shoulder if you're not tailgater

      What you see in the very edge of your rearview mirror should just barely overlap with what you see on the inside edge of your side view mirror, on both sides. Takes a little getting used to, but my god, it is a huge difference.

    If you are looking for euro mirrors for german cars, the cheat is to order from Japan. I get parts insanely cheap. A whole Brabus body kit cost me $1k shipped

    No blind spot if you adjust your mirrors properly. The side mirrors should aim outward more, so the rear-view image continues in the side mirrors.

    I used to have the "stick on thing". I've not put one on my truck because they have an integrated turn signal that it would cover. I really like them on my last truck. Especially when towing. If they had one for my truck that had turn signal option I certainly would. I like the integration.

  • @benjaminkamben4908
    @benjaminkamben4908 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are technically not legal. However; I don't think an officer would EVER enforce it. See mirrors on cars in Europe do not include the etched on phrase "objects in mirror are closed than they appear". Not having that etched on the bottom of the passenger side mirror is against DOT regulations in all States accept Hawaii and Alaska. Don't believe me? Ask a Highway Patrol or State Trooper. How did I learn about this you ask? My friend Thomas got ticked on his way back from Michigan. His Audi A4 had been vandalized earlier that year and someone smashed his mirrors off with a baseball bat so he replaced them with the European SPEC ones. Next thing he knows he is getting pulled over for a break light being out and gets an additional fine for the Mirror's. It was a Michigan State Trooper that ticketed him. When he looked into it he discovered that the American DOT REALLY HATES tinted mirrors of any kind and it is missing that safety phrase. You have been warned.

    Or you could just look over your damn shoulder, you know, LIKE YOURE SUPPOSED TO!
    Its called the lifesaver check for a reason, in UK, contact another vehicle and failing to check (often caught on dash cam) will see you in the Dock

    • @joedunn1109
      @joedunn1109 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, you think looking away from your direction of travel is better? In truth, if you aim your mirrors correctly you never have to turn your head. At most, you lean slightly toward the mirror while looking at the mirror to see there entire space beside your car.

    • @Craig-wp3pz
      @Craig-wp3pz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joedunn1109 no, you look BEFORE you move, hence it saves lives, it should also be done AFTER a mirror observation, before the ACTUAL maneuver, ie, changing lanes on freeway, or turning right from a red light, I learnt it as a car driver, but lived by it as a biker, and I am required to do it BY LAW (1978 highways traffic act 1978) as a truck driver 😉

    • @joedunn1109
      @joedunn1109 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Craig-wp3pz And while your turn your head and look over your shoulder, you are still moving forward, AWAY from the direction you are looking. In many vehicles, simply assuming the side mirrors wider than most people do will eliminate the blind spots. Moving your head sideways by leaning slightly let's you clear they entire area next the car without having to face away from your direction of travel. This is the approach advocated by the society of automotive engineers (SAE). Driving instructors taught the incorrect assuming of mirrors for a long time, and I suspect many still do. I was taught the wrong way myself, but read the SAE white paper many years later and moved my mirrors outward. My state has also changed the driver's manual (against which new drivers are tested) to retire setting the side view mirrors the way I do it. There is absolutely no reason to set mirrors so that you are your own car, and so that the side view mirrors show essentially the same picture as the rear view mirror. Obviously, driving a vehicle with no rear view is different. But for standard passenger cars, there is no reason to compensate for a large blind spot. It can be eliminated. That is what the side view mirrors are for, per the SAE.

    But why give people a simple mirror that gets the job done when you can over-engineer a solution like audible and visual "blind spot warning systems" and charge them extra for it and charge them an obscene amount of money to repair them should they ever become disabled.
