Great video. Wira saya pun macam tu juga. Baru jumpa video tuan. Nanti nak apply kat Wira. Tahniah. Banyakkan lagi video2 yg bermanfaat. Terima kasih. 👍
Thank you for the video. People would benefit by turning off the sound and slowing the video down to .25 so everything could be watched carefully. I have wira 1.3 and the intermittent problem is that the trip counter comes to 000.9 and stops, it wont go to 001.0, and therefore the odometer wont record. This problem comes and goes by itself. It usually works fine but this time I pressed the trip reset button and then the problem started. Is the problem the green gear or gray gear? Which one is stuck or spinning freely? Which one sometimes grab the axle or sometimes spins freely? Also, have you thought about the problems further and thought of a way to get at the green and grey gears without disturbing anything else? For example, might there be a way to modify the clear housing to allow both gears to be slid off the axle, put back on and secure it with a paperclip, pin or something so the future repairs could be done easily? And, did you ever contact VDO to see if they had replacement parts? If VDO didnt make the gears they might say who did.
Apologies for the inconvenience, glad TH-cam had some features to help with that. I'm not a professional car mechanic, I'm just a hobbyist and hence i didn't go that far to contact the manufacturer. What I could guess from your description is that your least-significant-value gear is lose. and I'm not sure if you have two rows of digits like mine has, but i'm guessing you do and you're referring to the bottom ones. In my case, it was the grey gear which was lose, it wasn't supposed to rotate freely like I did at 02:10 and hence I added some superglue to fix that
@@YYEngineering I do understand you are not a mechanic and thats OK. Your video was very good and the only one covering this topic. Yes Wira has two rows, basically the instrument panel is the same as Saga. I just went to KL from Penang and the odometer only recorded half the mileage because the trip meter would stop, and only start again if I hit the top of the dashboard with my hand and played with the trip reset button. Yes, I understand that the odometer is dependent on what the trip meter does so I must solve this problem. If the fuel meter also fails, COMMON, then a person would never know how much fuel is left in the tank. ALL the instruments are prone to failure and VDO refuses all repairs. Even if I replaced the speedo, it would be with an old secondhand instrument and that doesnt solve anything. I understand how it comes apart but in my opinion resetting needles has to be avoided so Im trying to see from your experience if there is a way to get at the gears without total disassembly. I really hate this problem. Also, I had an idea, do you think its possible to remove the pin that on the face of the speedo that rests the needle and note where it rests by itself? It might rest at 6pm or 530pm, then all you have to do is put the needle back on at that time, then move the needle past the pin point and stick the pin rest back in. Possible?
@@cvcoco thanks for the complement! It appears to me that if you don't reset the trip meter things run fine. I can only guess that the reset pin causes some misalignment between x.x gears on your tripmeter, when it's supposed to turn from 0.9 to 1.0, the gears don't turn. Note that the speedometer cable and the odometer are not driven by gears, they are driven by frictional plates so if the gears are stuck, the speedometer cable is running but not your gears, the frictional plate ( 02:38 silver round plate) are just not coupled. your suggestion would work I suppose, but you would have to rely on the spring not releasing more than it should when you remove the needle. In your case, I would think you won't even need to remove the front plate and hence the needle could stay in. you may only need to remove the back cover to check if there's any misalignment that's caused by the reset pin? I could be wrong
@@YYEngineering I dont think you are wrong. Ive had the car for years and when you press the reset, you easily feel the tumblers lining up again. This time, last week, the feeling was different and seemed to reset in stages, like the feeling something was broken. THAT must have been that the button was misaligning something. After that, the button felt fine when I reset many times during the trip but obviously whatever went wrong the first time was still present because the numbers would not flip over after 000.9. When I got near to KL, all the numbers were running normally and also all the way back to Penang, and recorded 412km. Having said this, now you are introducing a second problem, that being the friction plates. Does anything in your video show them. I dont even know what they look like. I wish we could do this together at your table!
@@cvcoco if you look at the video 02:45 and pause, you'll see two round plates (one I hold in my hands and the other on the table), they couple together to form a frictional plate that allows the speedometer cable to run faster than the gears assembly of the speedometer.
Wow guy ! the workshop ppl should take training from you !! Its impossible to find a new odometer alone in Kuala Lumpur. I have a 25 yr old Iswara and the odometer died 2 years ago . the car should have clocked 400k odd before this.. Would you please have a look at it. As no workshop guy is interested to fix this. (my lack of local language skills is probably contributing as well). Thank you in advance.
I checked yesterday, and the parts shops say no more stocks of the speedometer. The factory stopped production a few years ago. I should have bought a spare earlier.
Doesn't the spinning circular dial (the one driven by the cable turn the tripmeter's decimal number (the white one) first, which is itself connected to the odometer's first digit on the right ? In my case, both odometer and tripmeter has are not working. I think the main culprit is the small white gear connecting it to the odometer. I'd be grateful if you could explain how the mechanism works.
it actually spins both the tripmeter and odometer together, you don't see your odometer changing as frequent as your tripmeter because there is a hidden gear next to the least significant number in the odometer's digit-row. My guess is that either your tripmeter's gear is broken or your cable is (which would then be obvious since your speedometer shouldn't be working too)?
Hello, My speedometer is working fine. The pointer is moving. But the trip meter and odometer not stepping up.I understand that the trip meter had to step up for the odometer to increase per unit. Has this got to do with the cable or just the meter. Please help me.
it depends on which car you're driving, if you have the exact same car, it wouldn't be the cable. As the speedometer and trip meter share the same source

I'm no expert myself, but sounds to me like your speedometer-gearbox cable isn't spinning as fast as it should or the friction plate between the speedometer and the speedometer-gearbox cable is worn out?
On my 1980 datsun 720 pickup the speedometer is stuck at full speed. 24 yrs ago when I got it, it was working, but I took off the lens to clean out the dust and bump something and it's all the way full speed on dial and just stays there.??? don't have a clue on what to do to fix it?? The OD #s still work, and at driving speed the needle twitches. But it's at full speed on the needle.
It sounds like when you bumped the needle could have popped out and hence no longer coupled with the speed indicating pin, but I'm just guessing here...

normally, the speedometer and the odometer are synchronized. In your case, it sounded more like a gear issue like mine, where the gear gets struck and doesn't turn the odometer anymore.
If it is due to displaced needle then you would need to remove the needle, and then go cruising at a fixed speed, apply some super glue to the hole and put it at the right speed. If it's the speed-release connection or fir modern cars, faulty motor, then you would have change out the parts

I changed my metre card for all temperature, speedometre and fuel metre. The thing is....after remove the needle..unable to put it back to normal, not accurate anymore. Especially the most important needle meter is temperature n fuel..plz help 😥😭
assuming that your car is Proton Iswara, my advice would be, run your car without the needles, wait for the radiator fans to start running, that indicates that you've already reached the optimum temperature for the engine - the middle, then place the temperature needle. For the fuel, just fill your tanks to the maximum level and place the needle at the maximum point.
rudie0626 rpm not working is mostly due to lose wiring at the back of the meter, nothing mechanical. The indicator light could be due to lose contact or simply changing the light bulb? But there could be other causes too.
