While I don’t think I would refer to this house as ever being visually on par with genuine châteaux built in centuries past, I still find it interesting to compare how it looked originally to how it looks now as it quickly becomes apparent that the designers in charge of each version had very different visions in mind: whereas the original attempted to artificially evoke feelings of old world grandeur, wealth, and respectability, the current iteration seeks to shed the idea of belonging to a long line supported by intergenerational wealth and instead seeks to appeal to the tastes of new-moneyed celebrities and influencers.

I prefer houses that connect more with the exterior, with nature, not even one window was shown open to see the views, I feel this house was design just to impress others, definitely lacks the warmth I expect a home should have...
IKR? For the number (I lost count) of "French doors opening to the outside" you never got to see any of them open. And that sun room had so much furniture in it you couldn't even get to the French doors!
This is the house that I have as my wallpaper. I have a dream I was living in that house and I loved it 110 percent. One day just maybe I’ll get a house like that
If I were a billionaire I would buy The Manor. I like the look much more than the mid-century moderns that you see all over LA. The Razor House is an exception - I do love that home (supposedly the inspiration for Tony Stark's place) and if it were in Bel Aire or Holmsby instead of near San Diego it would rival the price of The Manor - but The Manor is my favorite.
It's gorgeous, but there is no reason for anyone to own a house this large. I mean, what a waste of space. Unless you have multiple families living in it, or you have 12 kids, it's just a waste.
I know a very good reason why somone would have something like this. Because they can and because they want to I dont like this house, i think for 160 million, you could do soo much better, but thats me and it aint my money
Don't forget the "Flower Cutting Room" - and there were even plans for a zoo, but by the time the house was almost finished Torrie had really outgrown wanting a zoo.
Why do people watch these videos if all they do is hate? 😂 I never understood the comments on these videos 😂. I'm looking for some inspiration and so far, I've been inspired.
It would be a perfect rescue mission for rehabilitating LA's homeless population and in turn rehabilitate Candy Spelling's reputation of being a classless broad.
I drive by this house frequently. It's not far from where the Playboy Mansion used to be. The Manor is next door to a public park, and is absolutely huge. It's crazy to think that this is going for more than what "The One" sold for, despite "The One" having amazing views, and even more amenities and features.
It’s not necessary a “home” in the traditional sense.. it’s a Hollywood stage to entertain, do business and write off business expense..with a few bedrooms as an after thought..
Well - the inside was pretty much totally remodeled when Petra Ecclestone bought the Manor in 2011. The price has also been slashed again to $137.5 million.
The only thing I remember about this Aaron and Candy Spelling giga-mansion, which is what it was called back in the late 80s, when it was first being built, is Candy wanting partway through construction, the foundation lowered so she would not have to gaze upon the sign on the Beverly Hills Robinson’s department store from her bedroom window. An often denied rumor.
The house has lost any French charm it may have had during the Spellings reign. Now it just looks like an over-sized copy of all the other mansions in Los Angeles.
i'd understand if it's for hosting parties but I honestly cannot imagine living in such a large space. I mean this both as a compliment and an inconvinience-- I think i'd lose my mind in a space this large. I know the way to go is usually to have a ground keeper/ several maids but if you're someone who prefer to take care of their own stuff, this would nightmarish
@@gina.siganoff Lol..One of the original owner, Candy Spelling lived there alone for a few years after her husband's death before selling it to Petra Ecclestone in 2011.
While having been built with the best and most expensive materials, I am perplexed as to why nobody stays in it for generations as Candie/Candy Spelling intended. It is cold and impersonal; nothing feels cozy or homey inside. Several rooms come close like the suite of rooms the Spellings lived in that was separate from the rest of estate.
The best part about this estate is the backyard with the pond and land that it gets you in LA and they didn’t even really show that. Plus this house has a modern design interior that feels dated. Would’ve preferred it to be really traditional or to be up to date in term of the interior furniture and finishes.
I want to see more of it! The grounds and garages, lol. It's very incredible. I remember seeing when Candy showed it on TV, years ago, on HGTV I think.
When Candy owned it it looked like a place for royalty. The inside reflected the outside. Now it’s been stripped of all the beautiful chandeliers and fireplaces All the wall sconces were from Europe. She took over 7 years Into building and designing each room. Petra brought a huge team in and it took 60 days. That about sums of what we see today.
My attention goes directly to the design of the handrails on the stairs and I like it with the white staircase. The oval on the ceiling is very different for me plus there seems to be a mirror before the molding. I see this bathtub is similar to the modern bath tub look I like in white. This bathtub sits flat on the floor instead of legs. With a mansion this big a utility or modern industrial aesthetic makes sense to me. I see this movie theater is fancy with its capacity for a lot of movie chairs including couches to lay down vertically.
There is something off when the primary closet is more impressive than the library. The "library" feels like an after thought. As if the owner said, "I guess we have to give the impression that we read..." with a shrug.
I remember watching an interview in the 90s with the cast of Beverly Hills 90210, they mention going over to The Manor and having parties and bowling at the bowling alley inside the house.
If you want to live in the most glamorous event center anywhere, this is the one for you! A trophy house and nothing more. You know it's too much when your bedroom has a living room. You looked like you could barely choke down any more of this by the end of the video.
I know, I mean how much sense does it make to build something so grand… the average human is still about the same size as always. This is imposible to “inhabit”.
@@purpurina5663 Yeah, the primary suite alone is twice as big as my house. Plus, I don't like 14 people enough to even begin to fill up 14 bedrooms! LOL!
If you think this is too over the top, think about Antilia, the largest private home in the world - located in Mumbai, India. At 400,000 sq. feet (about 7.5 times the size of The Manor), it is a 27-story, 568 foot tall skyscraper that is the home of India's second richest man.
So don’t buy it
This isn't a home though
@@davidcattin7006 you could get to the French doors
As a french man I can promise you there is NOTHING french is that house.
We have MUCH MORE taste.
8:20 isn't that pool area more Italian than French as well?
all the colors make me feel like im in a ikea show room
This is the house that I have as my wallpaper. I have a dream I was living in that house and I loved it 110 percent. One day just maybe I’ll get a house like that
If I were a billionaire I would buy The Manor. I like the look much more than the mid-century moderns that you see all over LA. The Razor House is an exception - I do love that home (supposedly the inspiration for Tony Stark's place) and if it were in Bel Aire or Holmsby instead of near San Diego it would rival the price of The Manor - but The Manor is my favorite.
@@jamesrawlins735 you can get this house if you are just a millionaire bc its only $165m
It's gorgeous, but there is no reason for anyone to own a house this large. I mean, what a waste of space. Unless you have multiple families living in it, or you have 12 kids, it's just a waste.
They're not for families to live, they're for parties, large gatherings, large getaways.
I know a very good reason why somone would have something like this. Because they can and because they want to
I dont like this house, i think for 160 million, you could do soo much better, but thats me and it aint my money
Good thing you can’t afford it
This home is in Los Angeles…….enough said.
True
Here is my library, where I keep vases and upright plates! 🤣
I remember the lore of this house when I was growing up - Thinking “I wanted a gift wrapping room!”
Yep, the 1999 guinness book of world records description...
Don't forget the "Flower Cutting Room" - and there were even plans for a zoo, but by the time the house was almost finished Torrie had really outgrown wanting a zoo.
respectfully loving this Manor
Why do people watch these videos if all they do is hate? 😂 I never understood the comments on these videos 😂. I'm looking for some inspiration and so far, I've been inspired.
There are no words to describe this masterpiece. One thing was shocking: library has no books 🤔
Because they only sell the mansion not books.
Imagine losing your cellphone. Now where did I leave that damn thing.
you would have enough staff to search for it
I have to make a choice and i choose to let youtube go. I wont do vlogs theres no point if choose to make website if i couldnt sell my curriculum.
@@vocaloid444 Way to post something completely off topic. I think you missed the point. I was trying to be funny.
As a french everything that AD calls "french" - don't look french at all, sounds like some marketing thing to make you pay x10 the price
it looks like when you make a house on the sims and you have no idea how to arrange the furniture because there's so much space
Breathtaking 😍
3:58 "Walls for art.." as opposed to normal, peasant walls on which no art can be hung, of course
I needed more footage of that attic. That was, by far, my favorite part of this house.
This could be used for a gifted orphanage program . Or even turned into a X-men house 😂
It would be a perfect rescue mission for rehabilitating LA's homeless population and in turn rehabilitate Candy Spelling's reputation of being a classless broad.
the bowling alley did it for me 😮🤯
Amazing job the house is beautiful
I drive by this house frequently. It's not far from where the Playboy Mansion used to be. The Manor is next door to a public park, and is absolutely huge. It's crazy to think that this is going for more than what "The One" sold for, despite "The One" having amazing views, and even more amenities and features.
“The One” doesn’t have 4.7 acres
One is garbage. Even the builder went crazy & bankrupt.
I would be so lost in that house lol insane homes like this exist when so many are homeless.
It’s not necessary a “home” in the traditional sense.. it’s a Hollywood stage to entertain, do business and write off business expense..with a few bedrooms as an after thought..
“The manor was built on the former estate of Bing Crosby, they tore the house down-“ excuse me WHAT
…..The city of Beverly Hills was mortified that the Crosby estate (and 3 other surrounding properties) was torn down.
wow , the facades are so blend ....
Kudos Candy. You DID that.❤🎉😊
Well - the inside was pretty much totally remodeled when Petra Ecclestone bought the Manor in 2011.
Candy did admit that she didn't understand scale when planning her dream mansion - if she had known it would never have been so big.
The house has lost any French charm it may have had during the Spellings reign. Now it just looks like an over-sized copy of all the other mansions in Los Angeles.
For real, there is no charm in this house anymore. Someone else needs to take it over and put some personality in it.
i'd understand if it's for hosting parties but I honestly cannot imagine living in such a large space. I mean this both as a compliment and an inconvinience-- I think i'd lose my mind in a space this large. I know the way to go is usually to have a ground keeper/ several maids but if you're someone who prefer to take care of their own stuff, this would nightmarish
Can you imagine how long it would take to vacuum and mop . Then the utilities…I’m getting anxiety 😟
@@gina.siganoff Lol..One of the original owner, Candy Spelling lived there alone for a few years after her husband's death before selling it to Petra Ecclestone in 2011.
@@gina.siganoff It took around 50 servants to maintain the house and grounds.
Thank you manager ❤😂😊🎉
It keeps on coming back in the market!
Such a pity the interiors were turned into the tacky 2016 Glam-fluencer design style after it was purchased by Petra Ecclestone lol
oh yeah
The architecture is nice but the actual styling and interior design is atrocious. The furniture takes a classic looking house and makes it tacky.
How the other half live🤯 absolutely breathtaken❤
This is probably my most favorite house in the world. If I had the money, I will definitely buy it
Nice I recently just watch the documentary of this home “Selling Spelling Manor”😅 nice to see in HD quality too
While having been built with the best and most expensive materials, I am perplexed as to why nobody stays in it for generations as Candie/Candy Spelling intended. It is cold and impersonal; nothing feels cozy or homey inside. Several rooms come close like the suite of rooms the Spellings lived in that was separate from the rest of estate.
It’s because the previous owner said it’s haunted.. they moved out
The best part about this estate is the backyard with the pond and land that it gets you in LA and they didn’t even really show that. Plus this house has a modern design interior that feels dated. Would’ve preferred it to be really traditional or to be up to date in term of the interior furniture and finishes.
looks like 1980s inside
Y’all it’s on the market. It’s just staging. And that’s a huge house to stage. I think it’s amazing!
Price for The Manor is now $137.5 million.
Superb Well Illustrated Video . Merci
nice presentation and matching commentary. enjoyed......
Yep it was and damn has it changed for the better.. I hate Candy spellings taste.. Old fashioned and horrific wallpaper
"A family home"...with 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms? I guess you could go on for a week without seeing a (specific) family member.
For 165,000,000 I want Hogwarts
😆 me too!
@@JF-gy7tt it's so blah. How could anyone be comfortable in that thing. Just dumb in my opinion.
@@nabywanieks I like it! But it’s sterile probably to most.

@@justayoutuber1906 I bet you could
My attention goes directly to the design of the handrails on the stairs and I like it with the white staircase.
Incredibly incredible
This home isn't just for the generations, you could fit your entire family tree in this place O_o
That’s the Spelling Manor! Tori Spelling grew up in this house, I think she may have been married here too!
She was! She married that gay, Armenian guy!
The funny thing is they wouldn't recognize the inside today - Petra Ecclestone totally remodeled the inside when she bought The Manor.
Good job presenting.
It has 9 elevators, a 168 car garage, three helipads, and a "Snow Room" that spits out snow from the walls.
It gives me mixed emotions as in awed and appalled at the same time...
Yes! This is the sentiment I was looking for.
🤷♂️ I find it tacky and excessive. But to each their own, of course. Just my opinion.
This is incredible
Insane how something so pretty can be so soulless
Some rooms look slightly dated but the sheer scale of this house makes up for it. It’s magnificent
its big, i dont think its worth 165 mil..it has no character, only part that has character is the stairs
@@SpaceRanger187 A lot of these mega mansions aren't worth the price tag. They so SO over priced these days.
