      thegamingbrit There is no British accent. There are so many regional dialects Brits from like 20-30 miles away speak so differently.
      Almost every American trying to impersonate a Brit does a cheesy Dick von Dike Mary Poppins accent that no-one in Britain has talked like in a hundred years.

    In the UK you probably have a street with four Chicken and Chip shops with one Fish and Chip shop, at least where I am Fish and Chips isn't that popular anymore

      Really depends on where you are. I have tons of the usual chicken and kebab shops, but my town is also a seaside town so we have an absolute onslaught of fish and chip shops. And it is glorious xD

      ***** where I live is the same - I swear, I live in a tiny village and I'm pretty sure we have over 4 fish and chips shops in walking distance. Never heard of a chicken and chips shop, though!

      Oyin Toluhi Yeah def depends on the area-South London is probably the most heavily concentrated place with all the various types of chicken shops. Once I left Croydon, all I saw was Fish and Chip places-but they sell fried chicken too now!

      Chris Mulliken Save up your British pounds and open up an authentic fish and chip shop here in California! I'll be your regular customer. I once had some really good fish and chips in Portsmouth England. It was served in real newspaper! Btw...if you want to blend in in California DO NOT say CALI. We say "SoCal" (Southern California) "NorCal" (Northern California) or simply "California".

      Darren How Yes it is authentic thank you very much. Yes , a lot of places are owned by Pakistani's instead of Indians, but there are still authentic Indian restuarants. And not all curry is spicy. Curry doesn't have to be spicy in order to be a curry.

    • @surajbhat5447
      @surajbhat5447 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chelcie Morris listen mate, I'm all for fusion foods. I ain't a hater on fusion foods, but what i do have a problem with are fusion foods, or foods that have been adapted to suit the local area's tastes authentic. If you like British curry, good on you, so do I. But as a first generation Indian immigrant child, i can tell you that British curry ain't like 99.9999999999999999..............999% if not 100% of indian curries. I'm not trying to be a bully man, but stuff ain't actually authentic. Of course, it isn't only about the spiciness of the curry that's inauthentic.

    • @gamblemadman
      @gamblemadman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +suraj bhat British Indian food isn't the same as Indian food. It's evolved it's own flavour, which makes it unique and authentic to Britain.

    In Britain, a lot of families have roast dinner every Sunday (Sunday Roast). It can be roast chicken, beef,lamb, pork etc however, my favourite is roast beef with roast potatoes,yorkshire puddings and veg (carrots, cabbage etc depends what you like) ...and not forgetting..gravy!! Awesome video. As you requested, I'm British born and bred. Stuff like fish and chips is one of the nationwide foods but there's very strong regional identities and that's reflected in the accents and the food. I'm from Devon and Cornwall in the deep south-west which is mostly rural and isolated so it has it's own thing going on. You will LOVE clotted cream, Cornish Pasties are a good quick fast food, originally developed for the miners so they could have their entire meal, in a handy pastry case. Saffron cake is amazing too.
    Pasties are tasty and hearty but like most Celtic foods, it's pretty basic as historically the people were poor, just beef, potato, onion and what Americans call 'rutabaga' (we call a swede) all finely diced with a bit of salt and pepper and butter, put into a half moon shaped pastry case raw and crimped around the edge to hold it together and all cooked together. The crimp around the edge was traditionally the handle for the miners to hold it with when they ate it and then throw the crust away as they would have arsenic dust on their fingers from the mining.

    I grew up on fish and chips. My father is half British and half Japanese and my mother is Vietnamese. Moving to NYC at a young age I never really appreciated my heritage growing up. Heck I was part Asian and white speaking English with a British accent in Brooklyn. It wasn't until middle school when I went over to a friend's house for the first time in my life that I realize how great I have it. My friend's mother scoff at the idea of cooking anything else besides Vietnamese food (which I love). After that day I realized how lucky I was at home. I grew up enjoying a variety of different types of food and never really thought about it. We cooked British food (fish and chips, pastys, bangers and mash, curry, ect.), Japanese food ( soba noodled were a staple, oyakodon, udon, tonkatsu, ect.), and Vietnamese food. I was probably the only kid that has ever brought a bento box to school with fish and chips, tamagoyaki, rice (banh cuon sometimes), and pickled carrots/daikons on a daily basis.

    In Britain, the term "Asian" may refer to "East Indians", however there's an increasing common use to call orientals "East Asians/Easterners", just like in Canada where Indians are referred to as "South Asian". We may be different in looks, but in all honesty, our cultures are very much intertwined in places like Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, SE Asia basically. Buddhism is another influence too that impacts east Asian culture [the actual Asians by American standards]. Props to you guys, I'm glad I subscribed. You really show the different "Asian" cultures that are abound. Best of luck with your future videos!!

    So, I'm from London, and I'd say there are way more burger places, fried chicken places, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Turkish takeaways than fish and chips. I would say fish and chips is a popular takeaway, but it's traditional and other things are more popular. And.... fish and chip shops now usually sell other things too.

    We don't call them Swai here in Singapore. We call them Sutchi. The Sutchi fillets are sold frozen and are readily available in supermarkets. They tend to be a little oily, but make good Fish n Chips provided the batter is well prepared.

    Fish and chips are great and all, but I think roast dinner is eaten more often. The roast dinners I usually have consist of chicken (sometimes vegetarian sausages), roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, broccoli, peas, carrots and gravy. Some people even have mash potatoes along with roast potatoes! My family also have roast dinner on special occasions such as Christmas, but we have it with salmon - it's always what I ask to eat for dinner on my birthday.
    Other than that, there's not really many more British dishes except for the common sausages and mash potatoes, Shepherd's pie/cottage pie and fish pie. We mostly eat food from other countries such as curry and fajitas. A lot of people like to eat McDonald's or KFC, but there are a lot of pizza and Indian takeaways around here. Chinese restaurants are popular in my area, but there are not many places where you can get takeaway from. I live near a place that sells authentic Italian pizza and it's so different to the pizza you usually get from other places! Some popular places to eat out are the Harvester, Jimmy Spices and Frank and Benny's (as far as I know). I know that you don't have Greggs in America which is one of the best bakeries in existence! Okay, maybe I'm over-exaggerating, but they have really nice pastries there. I bought a vegetable pasty from there which tasted like roast dinner in pastry - 'twas absolutely delicious! I forgot to mention Bubble and Squeak which is basically just fried leftovers.
    I don't really know much about normal food to be entirely honest - desserts are easier to name XD
