After I read this book, I suspended all my social media accounts, because I did feel like I needed to stop the world, think about this story, about Alaska and just focus on the important things in life. I ended up getting back on the socials when Christmas came, but I'll never forget how good it felt to not have the urge to be constantly checking Instagram, Twitter,... This does not have a straight connection to this book, but as you said, it was published in 2005 - Back then, teenagers lived differently and my reaction to this story was to live in a different era, to go back in time. This book means so much to me, I wondered about it for so long and it feels great to be hearing about it now, after all these years. Thank you Nikki, for another amazing review!
I loved how John Green tried to explain life and how to solve problems by a metaphor: "How would I get out of the labyrinth?" because at the age of a teenager, all seems to be complex, to make friends and interact. By the way, Miles goes into it and finds the Great Perhaps, Alaska, which is also the way out of the labyrinth in some way, but then she dies. However, he still finds the way out of the labyrinth of his loss, and the same answer, Alaska helps him by the legacy she gave him. Pudge just changes his perspective and tries to figure out why she died, but then I realize that he was thinking a lot about it. And then he acts like Alaska would like him to act, he forgives her and himself and still has Alaska in his heart as a lifetime experience for an entire life, even if Alaska died, she had a permanent impact on everyone, for example, the last event of school, the last and most wonderful prank ever.
I LOVE THIS BOOK. For me, it's my favorite John Green book. Also the Hulu TV show adaptation is probably the best book to screen adaptation I've ever seen. I genuinely don't think they missed a scene from the book- and added more. Ugh I love it so much
I read this book a few weeks ago and had "Glimpse of Us" my Joji on repeat.... I cried for 4 hours straight. Overall, I love this book so much. I relate to Alaska in so many ways. I loved her unpredictability. It got annoying at times, but you're meant to see the flaws in her. The flaws of her are the most beautiful parts of her. I think what tore me apart was reading Tukami's letter and then Pudge's essay. About forgiveness and letting go. Forgiving others and forgiving ourselves. About hating Alaska for leaving but loving her and forgiving her mistakes. "I don't know where ' there' is, but I believe it's somewhere, and I hope it's beautiful".
This book was assigned to me and my senior class in 09. Idk if it was different in other states,but the DOE didn’t fully approve this book, but They allowed my teacher to use it in her lesson plan as long as she used her own funding. She basically had a talk with us to make sure we took this seriously and not waste her money and promised we’d love it. We read it in class aloud every day, discussed it, and some kids actually finished it ahead of time because they couldn’t wait. Safe to say majority in the class was crying at the turning point. I think this book actually got me into reading again after the slump that was post- Breaking Dawn 😂😂😂
I vaguely remember starting that one at some point in my life but definitely did not finish it and couldn’t tell you anything about it haha. Will for sure be picking it back up though! 💗
Looking for Alaska was SO SO good! I've been waiting for this for a long time and it really didn't disappoint. I read this book when I was in 7th grade so I was like 12/13 years old and I remember loving this book so much!!! I also remember thinking that in my opinion she had committed s******. I’m curious to see what I would think if I re read it now that I’m 21 years old 😅
