Mate, I just got back from a beach session with the same weight gear but using hardbody lures. Landed a few tailor and a 3kg salmon. The salmon on that gear was intense. I’m getting up in the morning and having a crack with plastics after watching this. Your videos are inspiring brother, keep em’ coming! 👊🏽

This was so good! It just shows us all, it doesn't have to be all massive pelagics & remote area fishing- really good footage as well in slo mo. So great to see you having a great time of it without the stress of mega fish etc. The fam always enjoys watching you creating. Great work Briggsy! 🎣✌🤙

I love casting lures on a light set up in the surf. Have caught some surprisingly big fish. And agree about the Keitec . They dont hold up well at all. That water looks amazing. Nice vid. Thanks

When i was young i used to throw a hot pink octopus skirt lure on the beach. The one where you put a bean sinker inside it and tie directly to a hook. It was also very successful at catching flatties on the beach. Use about a shimano 4000 reel on a close to 8ft whippy rod on 10lb line. You would be supprised how bigger fish you can pull in on light gear when you play it out and tire them out a little 'actually fish' not skull drag everything in on 30lb line.

fishing for me is a relaxant, but there is nothing more relaxing than walking the beach fishing low tide gutters with a flooding tide using light spin tackle. the variety of species is amazing with the occasional epic catch. 2 for this year is a 81cm flathead and 98cm jew and the best is a 124cm jew a few years ago and of course everything is catch n release. having bipolar i use the sights n sounds of the ocean and surroundings as a resetting and refreshing tool.
Good sesh so far bro. I'm about halfway through. You're inspiring me to take another beach trip. Wish i wasn't so far away from the coast

A lot of flatties you have caught there indeed. Amazing you handle them with you bare hand like that without getting spiked.
There is not a lot of good science on when flathead spawn. All the old fisho's say it's around September. And there are a few very old, limited source research papers that suggest this. But having fished and caught plenty for them over the last ten years - my stats show that I have caught far more in the estuaries in March and April than in September, November. I have caught a lot in the last few weeks around the river mouths in the Northern Rivers and I expect they will be even thicker in the run up to the new and full moons @landangler
Motor Oil color pattern is good for every species... Catch everything on it.

love fishing small gutters on light gear, don't get as many flatties here in SA but get a lot of salmon with the odd silver trevally, bream and yellowfin whiting. sometimes can even get onto a little mulloway.
its always good fun and a nice break from the heavier fishing

nice work mate! i recently caught 13 off the beach just a few hundred meters to the north, there were 2 holes just past the lake opening. they were taking everything i threw at them but got at least 5 on the 3.2 oil flash....yeww!

These light tackle beach fishing videos are my favourite. Such pretty scenery and clear water. I’ve been doing it a bit as well but haven’t been able to line up much fish. How long do you spend in each gutter? I have moving pretty steady so wondering if I’m not giving each gutter enough time. Also haven’t been able to line up a sunny calm day like you. Not sure if the heavier surf has an effect
My 2 cents after reading this a year later, look for the deep gutter where the water is washing off a bank and flooding in, cast up current and pull your lure back towards yourself, let the current do some of the work, twitch twitch pause for 90% of softies and work the same gutter for a good 30 minutes to an hour before moving along. The main thing is watching the tides and the moon phase. The tide has a big influence on beach fishing and rock fishing, if u want to get yourself flathead try fishing from top of the tide down to about 4 hours after high tide. If u can fish from the sand without crossing over to reach a gutter throw a second rod out with a pilly on a paternoska rig. Will catch u some fish and also teach you about how the beach works. Had to drop a comment as no one wanted to help u out after over a year 😂
Fun ass day man, flatties are like a mix between flounder and redfish over here in the states. I like how they have blue tails like our redfish

What a great and fun vid... well done telling the story. Idea... the outside edge of the sandbar the outside waves are breaking on might harbor some monster Flatheads. I can't tell if you could hit that with a heavier jig or perhaps a drone-drop but might be interesting. Thanks for putting this out!
Your flatties remind me of flounder fishing here in Florida. I fish same looking places and lures for flounder, what’s funny is we call our flounder flatties too.
