Cut some slack people... there are 42 pockets in this thing and our friend JUST got it out of the box! :) Owning 3 discontinued Scottevest products-- (Trench 1.0 the fleece, and a coat I use as a winter coat that is like a stable coat..) They are amazing. It takes a little while of having one of these vests to better figure out how you want to organize on your person.
I've ordered this one as a replacement to my now ancient fleece--which I've used and abused over 2 continents. I can't wait to fill up the new one!
Things I've learned from products I currently own...
The battery chargers are something you might want to use while you are walking around to recharge your phone... You can wire this vest up in such a way that your battery chargers can be charging your equipment while you are walking around! You can also wire your ear buds in such a way that you can have them stowed but ready to place in your ears to listen to your mp3 player/phone/tablet etc while it is safely ensconced in your jacket. It's the Personal Area Network that they talk about.
The pockets aren't padded--so it's very important that your gadgetry be encased protectively, in case you take the coat off and things clink together. Typically you don't need to do more than you would normally do.
When you do pack this, and you are flying, make sure that you are not taking liquids or other forbidden things into your jacket--you'll just take it off and put it through x-ray... it's amazing...
Very often, especially in the summer I don''t actually wear the vest, rather I pack it and carry it draped over the handle of my 4 wheeled roller--over top my laptop bag which rests on top of the roller for walking through airports.
Because I've gotten the cords and gadgets out of the laptop bag, I can now use that room for things like paperwork, books etc. that I need to have during my travels. This then leaves enough room for a 5 days worth of clothes in the roller bag. (Socks and underwear/t-shirts, folded/rolled neatly work well in the large inverse kangaroo pouch in the back--if you are wearing it seated it's not bad if you've put stuff in there so it provides extra cushioning... :) This leaves the roller open for things like your formal shirts, sweaters, slacks and shoes. Do not place breakables in the rear pocket--unless they are properly padded/encased! Similarly with laptops! (If you accidentally sit on it--no amount of padding will keep your laptop alive!)
I always put snacks (a bag of pretzels, cheese and crackers with a plastic knife, into one of my pockets so all I need to do is purchase a bottle of water at the airport and I'm ready to fly in comfort. I always have this at hand, (I place it on my lap sort of like a blanket during flight so I can get whatever I want whenever I want it... Then if you need to leave the plane quickly, you just put it on while you are waiting your turn, grab your other luggage, and go.
They claim that this is useful for photography and it can be (I haven't seen the back pocket of this one yet.. if you're willing to use a small point and shoot, or your cell phone. I could also see the possibility for carrying some camera equipment. But in my prior E-Vests this is kind of limited. Hopefully this will be better in this incarnation! (According to UPS I find out tomorrow!)
I do have a DSLR that fits into a small case logic case that I may try to fit into the back pocket of this, or it can sit on the top inside of the roller bag--if I must check the roller under the plane--I pull the small camera bag and carbiner it onto my laptop bag--which somehow doesn't get me into trouble with most flight attendants--especially if I'm surrendering the larger roller bag. (in fact they do tell you to pull out any cameras or laptops if they are placing your bag under the plane.)
So... we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Wow that is cool! Your explanation is very helpful, Dave, thanks for the tips. I probably would look like a cow wearing one of those, but how very clever and convenient. I tend to cram a lot of things into my oversized waistpack/camera bag when I travel. It would be nice to thin it out a little.

Scott Jordan says, "Innovation - and competition - are about advancement, and moving the conversation, the products and the industry forward… not repeating what was just done." He certainly didn't care enough to post the constructive criticism I gave him in a review HE asked for!
    Here's that review:
I'll See Your Dork, and Raise You One!
I saw or heard somewhere in Scotty's ads, the phrase, "without having to look like a dork". It's funny how the techies see a fishing vest as "dorky". The dorks live and breed in silicon valley. They wear things like ScotteVests. Most of them can build software that can get us to the moon and back, but they don't know which end of the screwdriver you're supposed stand on!
I owned a travel vest made by Trail Designs. I used it primarily to organize myself while driving taxi. It's nice to have access to things without having to get out of the car. It lasted 16 years. When I went to replace it, there were none to be found. It cost about $32 and gave quick deployment to all pockets' contents.
I replaced it with a Rothco Vest, $32.99. I spent $40 to add my logo to the back. (I also perform magic.) I was very disappointed when it only lived 2 years.
Now we come to the ScotteVest. I was very leary about spending $149 on a SeV Q.U.E.S.T VEST. I can see from the gate, this thing is not going to go the distance. It's main fabric is nothing more than pillowcase material. I'm not even going to waste the money on embroidery work. I give it two years max, with the second year not looking very good. I bought the version with the maximum pockets, but only a few of them deploy quickly. (compared to an individual pocket with a velcro'd flap)
I guessed these might be designed by right-handers, for right-handers, and they are. I thought ordering the maximum pockets would be the best action I could take to try and get around this. My wallet ends up in a camera pocket and it is always having to de-velcro the pocket on it's way in. The phone sticks to the pocket with the see-through film, that's annoying, especially since it's on the wrong side for me. I use an iPhone 5 and you would have to turn it upside-down if you wanted to use your earpods without putting undo stress on the cable. (The iPhone 4's had the jack on top. I guess the pocket didn't get updated.) I hear about a patented PAN system that's supposed to organize your earpods. They kept falling out of their little pockets so much that I just removed the earpods completely. The little rubber grommets that are supposed to hold the earpod cables really aren't well placed. They do succeed in making you look like a dork all the time though. It completely clutters the neckline.
There are some good ideas here, but for this price point, you should get a product that will last a while. If they have the resources to offer so many versions, why aren't at least some of them offered in left-handed. (Because they were created by right-handers? ...and left-handers are not only in there right mind, but they are more intelligent! Sorry folks, but those are the facts!)
This product approaches pragmatic, but doesn't quite cross the finish line. The earpod pockets and the phone issues have nothing to do with being right or left-handed. (They need to hire a left-handed Virgo if they really want to get organized.)
The RFID pocket isn't big enough to hold my wallet. (I use a Senior Pocket Daytimer.) I need to do some investigating on these things. I'm assuming that since these pockets are offered in various levels, that you could possibly still get skimmed if you have the lowest level protection?
I do like the stealth of the design. I intend to travel with this and don't need to over-advertise the "tourist" look. I like how the zippers are well hidden and give a nice "clean", simple look, but they are probably too small to last. Many of the pockets are hidden behind the tiny zippers multiplying the mileage put on the little buggers.
The lining gives you a nice feel, but probably comes at the sacrifice of durability. I love the magnetic flap closures. I haven't had any problem with these yet.
The hood enclosed in the collar serves as a nice pad to bear the load, and keeps the collar standing up, succeeding in both function and form.
The pockets that remain after "taking care of business", have been filled with magic to share with the world!
So there you have it! Remember - function before form, if it doesn't work, who cares what it looks like, so to answer the question in the survey that asks you to select whether you are "Comfort Driven" or "Style Driven", I'm neither. Function before form, if it doesn't work, who cares what it looks like!

How many pockets are there in the hat?

I have an older version of the hat... :) It has one under the bill and one over the headband which is enough to put a small amount of cash, a house key/car key and/or thumb drive/credit/atm card.

How the hell did you become editor in chief? You should have given the review on the women's medium vest too. You received the wrong size and still went ahead and did a review on it? WTF! Return it and give a proper review MR. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF.
