    Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧 That Ford sounds as good as a Leyland tractor👍. If not better 😃

    I was about 12 years old when The Commander 6000 showed up on my neighbors dairy farm, boy it was far ahead of anything the other guys had...... But they disappeared just about as fast.....20 years later during a John Deere 8 speed Power shift seminar I asked the instructor about the connection between the Deere power shift and the Ford Seletospeed.....Any He related that story.... Almost as it was told to you.....

      That's a really cool piece of tractor history. I really enjoy hearing these stories and 1st hand accounts like this, so thankyou for that.

    Great video Tim...nice to see the spring sunshine even if it's on a YT video. What Allis Chalmers tractor would be the approximate horsepower equivalent to the Ford 6000 diesel?

    There was a 6000 here that had a M&W turbo added. Fun to drive, I wasn't too impressed with the hydraulic accumulator hitch on the 3 pt. It did well enough, but it had the updated clutch packs in the trans. The reason there was problems at first, the excs at ford rushed to put it in production and it wasn't ready. Same issue IHC had with their 560 series. Recalls suck, as both builders found out! Both tractors were about the same power, along with the Deere 4010. Ford got all pissed with the designer of the select o speed and fired him. Deere hired him and gave him free reign to make it right, and he did! IHC was messing with their hydrostatic trans at the time, it didn't work out on big power tractors but was the answer for combines . The motors used in the 6000 were Ford built power units ,also used in their combines, good motors for the times.

      This is the only one I've been around. He's got it updated, and pressure changed in the transmission he said. It's been his plow toy for many years I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting. I enjoy hearing stories like this. And ist hand accounts.

      6000 had 66 hp, the 4010 had 80. The 6000 couldn't keep up with a 4010. The rnginrs were ok in the 6000 but thd wrist pins were weak and broke, especially if you turned the pump up on a Diesel and pegged the throttle day in and out. Spent many hours on both a 6000 D and a 4010D, both untouched. Both pulled a 5-14 but the 6000 didn't go as deep and shifted lots. The 4010 just torqued thru.

    My grandpa had a gas Ford 6000. It was good for light duty work, mowing, baling, hauling grain and silage wagons etc. But any heavy work and the engine would cut out and seemed to lack power. The reason he bought it was because his brother in law had a 6000 diesel and it was a work horse.

    • @TimothyFluegel
      @TimothyFluegel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Had they waited to get the transmission 100 percent before they launched the 6000 it would have been a really tough tractor to beat. That weird about your grandpa's cutting out... did they ever figure why it did that?

    Good day from Ontario, I did not understand everything he said about trans. Our neighbour had 2 6000's 1 trans. went other one crankshaft broke. Yes those 6 cyl were just truck motors.
    Thanks

      I believe it was the red 6000s they had troubles with. Farmers who bought them were given the choice of having theirs upgraded or getting a brand new upgraded one that was blue. Not many red ones around because of it, but I have seen them in magazines.

      There was a recall on the power shift transmission as far as I'm told. It wasn't ready yet lol

      Me too but it handled it nice. This ground is pretty mild, last year he brought it to plow day at my farm and it was snorting but pulled through the hard red clay non the less. I've got ax video on my channel of that if your interested.

    What did ford use for a diesel motor?
    I know Ford truck used their own engine but I'm not sure about the tractors.

    • @TimothyFluegel
      @TimothyFluegel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't know the 1st thing about them. I can't tell ya value or anything I'm sorry. If it was orange I could get ya in the ballpark for sure 😆. As far a what's wrong with it. Is it the engine that is bad or transmission, or did the transmission go bad and now it sat to long and the engine won't run too. Get whatever info you can from your neighbor is where I would start.

    • @stephenfonder7409
      @stephenfonder7409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could also be a stuck injection pump. Some people don't realize they do not have an oil line running to them they have a spot to put oil in them. They should be changed every time you change oil on the engine. I found this out the hard way after I bought mine. The previous owner didn't change the oil and ran it dry and it filled up with rust and locked up on mine shortly after I bought it.

    I just sold my 6000 diesel last year. Had a M&W turbo on it. Didn’t ever lack for power. But finding parts and trying to keep ahead of all the leaks was a headache. Despite all the hating on them, if you actually adjusted things right and did what the good mechanics told you, they became pretty solid. Mine had a set of duals with it. I adjusted the shift pressures a little higher, and it shifted smoother. Pump was set up 15%. Back when it was new, a lot of early diesels weren’t built tough enough. It should have been offered with the 5 speed with a high and low range. But 560’s had their problems, D19’s had their problems, 4010’s had their problems. Grandpa settled on a 6000 with 5-14’s and it was fine. Other grandpa had a D19 and liked it, but complained of head gasket issues.

    • @TimothyFluegel
      @TimothyFluegel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those buddas in the 19s were good engines.... until they put a turbo on them 😆. They should have never used that engine in the 19 would have been better off with a naturally aspirated 301 in my opinion.
