    Makes me wonder then why haven’t surfers taken the initiative to terraform some of the shoreline land just under the water In order to create amazing surf parks! It seems they could make one end beginner surf territory and the other in advanced surf territory.

    so why do most rivers dont have waves similar to that of beaches? i mean wind is also present in the rivers right?

    • @maidenfinesmixedbag8880
      @maidenfinesmixedbag8880 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rivers have some waves, but with less surface area to receive wind, im guessing they usually only get built up to capillary waves. And this is just conjecture, but I would think the fact the the river is flowing from o e place to another would affect wave formation.

    I got a question. Do the waves eventually die off before hitting land? it sounds like they don't but hows that possible? don't they lose energy after a long journey? shrinking in size ever so slightly with each movement? I hope I was clear on my question and maybe somebody can answer it? Thanks

    • @zaw3573
      @zaw3573 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think no matter what in the Earth the particles want to be in equilibrium, in rest and not be disturbed (whole idea of inertia and all that). So naturally indeed these waves should die off before hitting land.
      However, because of the pressure gradient present in the atmosphere and air, where air in high pressure regions would move to low pressure regions, there will be wind movement. The wind would continue blowing onto the ocean surface, causing friction between the wind (air particles) with the ocean surface (water particles). This thus causes the formation of the waves as explained in the video and with continuous wind movement, the wave would proceed on towards the direction of wind and the transfer of energy from the air particles to wind particles will continue.
      Also, there will be waves (or wave trains) with higher wave energy who would absorb the waves with lower wave energy. This absorption of energy increases the amount of energy they hold, causing it to proceed onwards.
      Also as explained in the video, as the deep water waves move to shallower regions and meets with resistance and friction from the change in seabed, the wave energy from below gets transferred to the wave above. And as the orbitals or wave particles below die out, the waves above gets unstable and will eventually break.
      In light of having no wind or no other waves with energy, then the wave would die off before hitting the land.
      I'm not too sure if my explanations are right, but I'm currently learning coastal morphology and this is what I've learnt about the waves and wave energy!

  • @sharkyrich4844
    @sharkyrich4844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that waves are caused by oscillating pressures in weather systems that raise and drop the ocean surface. It's the only way I can account for the energy I'm seeing.

    • @seandaniels9168
      @seandaniels9168 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes its air pressure that causes wind that causes waves.

    • @sharkyrich4844
      @sharkyrich4844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have ever seen a wave you would know wind didn't create it. Must be one of those clowns that believe the oceans are rising and the earth is warming because we don't give money to central banks to cool it down.

    • @sharkyrich4844
      @sharkyrich4844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seandaniels9168 Heat causes the air to rise and that displacement creates a low pressure and the surrounding air pressure replaces the low pressure; and that's wind. I believe there is pressure modulation in these systems that raise and low the surface of the water that create these waves that travel for miles. Kind of like when you blow air over the tip of a straw you will notice the water rising in the straw. If you blow side to side over the straw the water would raise and lower with the frequency of your head movement. There is nothing on the surface of water that can harness the energy of wind. Science likes to make shit up until someone else figures it out.

    • @Teshima_Seiji.17
      @Teshima_Seiji.17 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The windhas no place where it was born (u know what I mean) because the heat of from the sun and so cause the suns heat is heavier than cool air the wind is produced because warm/hot air is lighter than cool air (heavier than warm air)

    When the ocean got to the party it was shore happy. When the ocean entered the party, it’s friends waved at the ocean. After the party, the ocean got into its tide-y bed and went to sleep.
    The next day. The ocean drifted out of its bed, and then brushed its teeth, after that it“washed ”its face and went to its car. When the ocean was driving, it “crashed” into someone. The ocean is dead now. I guess you could say it was a “Wipeout”

    Meh I find this channel too hand-wavy with your discussion on scientific topics. The choice of language is also poor and lacks accuracy. Unsubbed. I much prefer PBS Spacetime/PBS Infinite series and Veritasium. Even Vsauce is more accurate, despite its overexaggerated style.
