This is painful to watch. It breaks my heart to see the state of their relationship especially since Lingyi is now questioning whether or not Shiyi actually cares about him. She made a huge mistake when she believed that he was responsible for killing her mother. She allowed her feelings to outweigh her common sense. Now she knows the truth/it's going to take her making the first move to mend their relationship. Lingyi was so heartbroken at the thought that Shiyi didn't really trust him. Unfortunately her father was a huge disappointment. He's the reason why she has trust issues when it comes to men. He never once protected her from his wife. He allowed her to be expelled from the family because he was too weak to defend her.
The pain in his eyes is so evident. He loves her but he's still reeling from the fact that she believed he was capable of harming her mother. The only saving grace is that she chose to suffer rather than to use the divorce agreement. She showed her love for him by fighting for their relationship. It's only a matter of time before they work through their issues. Mr. Ou was trying to help mend fences between them which is honorable. However, knowing how Lingyi feels about his family it's a bit awkward....lol

I think it helped redeem Shiyi somewhat in Lingyi's eyes that she chose to suffer rather than use the divorce agreement but her faith in Mr. Ou did not help. The look on his face when she unconsciously demonstrates her trust in Mr. Ou and defends his character shows some hurt. Lingyi is her husband but right now in his eyes she apparently trusts another man more easily than himself. Ouch.
I understand her mistake. Given both her age and her background it is very easy to see why she was misled. She didn't realize the coincidences were too perfect until she got some hindsight. Her mother was her most important person. The thought that the person she was coming to love might be responsible for the death of her mother would make it hard to think straight.
I felt bad when he rejected her touch. I think that was one of the first times she ever willingly made an intimate gesture and he rebuffed it. His action let her know that he was still hurt. He wanted her to tell him that she loved him. It's why he asked her why she would rather suffer at the farm than leave. They had a misalignment in communication. She used actions when he wanted words.
@@mckalla2109 Lingyi gave her the divorce decree as a way to protect her...if his mother ever found out the truth...but it was also used as a test for Shiyi. He told General Fu that if Shiyi had to use the divorce decree then it was heaven's will to part them. He didn't want to lose her. He just wanted to know if she loved him. When she chose to suffer it gave him a little bit of hope especially after she told him that she would never leave....because she was waiting for him.
I don't think his reaction to her defending Mr. Ou...It had more to do with him being jealous. He suspected that Mr. Ou had feelings for Shiyi...and when he arrived Mr.Ou was on the farm. He was the beloved son of his enemy...and he couldn't believe that Shiyi had so much faith in him after knowing about their history.
She made a huge mistake when she suspected him of killing her mother. Most times Shiyi is very observant...and can easily figure out the plot within a plot but this time was different. She never had faith in men because her father was so inept and he let her down on multiple occasions. He never defended her or even protected her so she never put her faith in any man. She started to let her guards down with Lingyi.. she even started to trust him but in the back of her mind...she was always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Yes, it broke my heart when he rejected her touch. His pain was written all over his face. He wanted to trust her...but he couldn't let go of his disappointment. She knew he was hurting....but she didn't know how to fix it. Their pain was real...and their longing for each other was apparent.
