    I just love watching your channel 👏🏼 maybe one day I’ll meet you on the road 🚐 We/I traveled 20 plus years in 15 plus motor coaches! My husband passed away 2 years ago and I just sold our business and now selling our home. I hope to go full time soon in my Tiffin Motor Coach. That’s when we were the happiest and that’s what makes me happy 😀 Safe travels to both of you 💕❤️🚐👏🏼

    Always interesting and informative to see how other folks do this. Lots if similarities in our routines. On our Newmar Motorhome - we also use both a Garmin RV GPS and the built-in Rand McNally for Navigation. In addition, my wife uses Google Maps, etc on her phone or IPAD - and she is also such a great Navigator/co-pilot that we are also upgrading her IPAD to the latest gen (mobile capable so you get the built-in GPS). It is always a balancing act on what you take out and then have to put away for travel. We like to stage things for easy access as well - including lunch for most travel days! Safe Travels!

      Every time we travel back to our home town, we switch out a thing or two we left and her sisters house. We actually STILL occasionally drop off items at Goodwill while we are traveling. Amazing!

    Tiffin's have much more convenient placing of the button pad to retract our slides. Ours is a 2009 and I can stand comfortably in our hallway one of the reasons we bought our rig is the full access we have. We have a better walkway when ours is closed up. Good video other Newmar owners to be which are now owned by Winnebago.

    Good video. We had a Class-C when our kids were you and we loved it. We just purchased a 5th wheel and after watching your video it brought back memories of having to listen to everything rattling around in the coach as we traveled. I wont miss that at all.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its funny,........we don't ever hear anything for the most part. The stereo equipment in the cabinet up above rattles around and the noise is DRIVEN into the dash camera mic because it follows the glass windshield down to it,.........and it sounds really bad. Have fun with your 5'er!

    Love your comments on the slide out buttons especially the part about not standing on it to long my wife is the one who operates the buttons while I watch the slide out movement I’ll have to remind her about this.I do have a question do you turn off the pedestal breaker when plugging in or unplugging

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES!!! We make sure everything is off, plug in our EMS tester,.....switch breaker on,......watch the diagnostics. If OK, we switch the power off, ......plug in the coach to the EMS,...... then switch it back on. When leaving,......we power down everything in the coach,.....especially the A/C units,.......switch off pedestal,.....then unplug.

    Hi,
    I'm French Canadian and soon will be leaving for Florida for the winter. I recently caught your videos and really enjoy watching your adventures.I baught my pusher 2 years ago and really enjoy it.
    Doing it full time is not really an option because our stay down south is limited to 6 months per year. Hate winter, I dont want to see snow anymore.
    Be happy, maybe I will see you down the road somewhere.

Thanks for taking the time to show all of us RV Newbies exactly what goes in to breaking camp to make sure you are safe and ready to roll. Your engineering background and FeFe sure comes in handy! Great tips and advice. We took an informal poll and yes it is time to get Sue and iPad. May we suggest the brand new 1TB 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Please email me your travel dates and itinerary again when you have time. We may be renting an Airbnb in the Atlanta area for the month of November so we can be close to go pick up our rig in Alabama and then get back over to Safe-T-Plus headquarters so they can install on our rig before we head out on our first long trip. My wife and I just purchased a Ram 3500 Dually Diesel and Toy Hauler this last week.
    Now all we need to do is dust off the take off strip for my youngest son, load both Harleys in the toy hauler and take off.
    We hope to one day do it full time and often wonder about monthly expenses. All the expense items you wrote down were right about what I had in mind.
    Ok maybe not the $800 a tire part but still.

    Good video. Just so you know, one reason to use the fast idle when you first start your coach (after the oil preshure comes up) is to get a more thorough / compleat burn of the diesel fuel. If you don't it can lead to the unburnt fuel washing down the cylinder walls and creating excessive wear also contaminating your oil. So it is a good practise to use the fast idle feature when starting your coach. Are you doing a oil analysis program on your coach?

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip William. You also always want to watch your idle time in general so you don't load up your particulate exhaust system enough that the engine needs to actuate a regen! Been lucky so far. Yes,..we have been getting the oil samples taken. That will be important for proving the engine health when it comes time to sell,....

    • @WILDEBILL308
      @WILDEBILL308 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurJourneyInMyles That is a good policy. One recommendation is to pull your samples and have the results back before you drain the oil. That way if you have some realey bad/odd results you can double check with a "check" sample to see if you realey do have a problem or just a bad sample.

I constantly needed something to kneel on, so all of a sudden, this pillow was useful. My friend Tom (from West Allis WI) was a true "Man's Man". He was thin, and wirerey, smoked Marlboro cigarettes, drank beer, and had a giant goatee mustache. He was a real construction worker on large industrial projects. I see you are towing a Honda Odyssey. We are a family of 6 and need the minivan but were told it was a no go for our odyssey. What year do you have? And do you have any resources you could point us to for more research? Many thanks!!

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We needed to pull a garage! We tow a 2013 EX-L Honda Odyssey. This is the latest model, and highest trim level model you can tow. Yes, I know, your not supposed to tow it! Blah, blah,.... Honda decided it wasn't worth the warranty claims of damaged Odyssey transmissions when NOT shifted into neutral following the EXACT instructions they provided way back in 2004. They gave up on the Odyssey public, because of this Odyssey peculiarity and said you can’t do it. I corresponded with a few other brave souls that had over 30,000 miles towed on their Odysseys before I was man enough to do it. I have towed ours about 20,000 miles now.
      The 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring was a 6 speed, and CAN NOT be towed. In 2014, EVERYTHING went to 6 speed. You can search for the Honda Vin number decoder on the internet to make certain your Honda is a 5 speed to see if you would be OK. Any others years you would want to buy, you would want to research the internet and vin # to make sure you are not buying another 6 speed! We liked our (2) 2015 6 speed Honda Odysseys so much, that we sold them to get our (1) 2013 5-speed Odyssey. We are FT, and just need one car now. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY ADDED LUBE PUMPS!
      THIS IS THE TOWING PROCEDURE WE USE,…….EASY AS PIE,…..
      It has been simplified, directly from the 2004 Honda Odyssey towing instructions, which is the last year they "allowed" towing. The "PV1A Transmission” is the ONLY Honda Odyssey Automatic transmission you can tow, IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS from Honda back in 2004 when they allowed the PV1A to be towed. It MUST be this 5 speed transmission. I left in a lot of the Honda legal jargon at the end just for your info.
      • Start the engine, and get it to operating temperature. (I am usually still packing something up.)
      • Press on the brake pedal. Shift the lever through all the positions (P,R,N,D,2,1).
      • Shift to D, then to N. Let the engine run for at least three minutes, then turn off engine. THIS IS THE KEY, AND THE ABSOLUTE ISSUE THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL FROM REVERSE WILL SET YOU UP FOR PROBLEMS, AND/OR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. How many times you can do it wrong, I don't know. I am absolutely vigilant on this procedure. You must shift to neutral from DRIVE.
      • Make sure parking brake is OFF.
      • Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY (1) so the steering wheel does not lock. Make sure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned off so you do not run down the battery. (Our tow electric cord has a trickle charger line to keep the battery from going dead. We have an SMI Air Force One brake system,.......Honda is around 4.600 lbs.)
      If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures.
      NOTICE:
      The steering system can be damaged if the steering wheel is locked. Always leave the key in the ACCESSORY (1) position to prevent damage to the steering system when towing behind another vehicle.
      CAUTION:
      Severe automatic transmission damage will occur if the car is shifted from reverse to neutral and then towed with the drive wheels on the ground.
      NOTICE:
      Improper towing preparation will damage the transmission. Follow the above procedure exactly. If you cannot shift the transmission or start the engine, your vehicle must be on a flat bed truck or trailer.
      If you tow a Honda/Acura vehicle with automatic transmission, the fluid must be changed every two years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first.
      Although experience has shown that the Honda/Acura transmission and powertrain are capable of being "motorhome towed", America Honda does not assume responsibility for any vehicle damage or liabilities incurred due to the towing device, towing vehicle, lighting hookup, or other towing equipment or towing procedures; any responsibility for these items is assumed by the owner/operator.
      If you have additional questions, please call American Honda Motor Co. Inc. (National Consumer Affairs) at 800-999-1009.

    Luv your channel, the only recommendation I have is to always retract slides before retracting leveling jacks and vs versa level the coach and then extend slides. These chassis twist and flex a lot and with the jacks extended the chassis is as straight and true as possible. This might be why you have had numerous full wall slide timing issues. I have read PIB38 and you should visually look outside to determine chassis flex based on gap of vertical wall trims. Shame on Newmar!

    Good thing to check that toad. I once had to chase down somebody when I heard them DRAGGING their jeep behind them from inside my RV. (It sounded terrible. To this day I cannot understand how they couldn't hear the screaching of the tires on their toad unless their rig was just THAT SOUNDPROOF. They laid black marks on the road for a good half mile before I caught up with them, zipped around and stopped in front of them.) It was kind of funny because they were initially quite pissed at me that I'd stopped in front of them after zipping around. I just looked at the guy and said, "Well okay... I won't bother to tell you you've been laying down a black strip of rubber all along the road for the last half mile while dragging your toad." LOL.
    Might want to see about getting a dust mop. It's an additional tool to carry along but I found that they worked so much better on wood and tile floors. Much faster than having to sweep the floor before bringing in the slides and honestly speaking I think the dust mops actually work much better than the broom. Good video. Safe travels, y'all!

    Thanks again for your vid, it helps folks like me 🥴 know we're doing the right thing....... 🤭aren't we? 😅
    Very nice rig all y'all are traveling in. Maybe we'll catch y'all on the road.... mmm OK with your diesel motor maybe all y'all will catch us someday but til then be well and safe travels.

    Great video! Really shows what it's like to prep your RV for a move. Thanks for the reality check! Food for thought, wouldn't a Minnie vac, say a small shop vacuum be better than sweeping before every move? Just wondering cause I hate sweeping! Lol.

      We have a small handheld Dyson, as well as the rigs central vac built in. You just can't beat the safety check of sweeping the whole deck front to back!

    Love this video and seeing how you set up everything for travel. I loved you r comment at the end about how storing your furniture would have been a 3 year waste of money. Got the same feeling after my wife died and I got to clear out our old storage units of stuff that was wanting "for the right time" to come back home and never will. Could have bought a rig with the savings.
    Question about driving your coach. I know you have to compensate and make wide turns just because you are so long. Do you have to also factor in the car, or does that pretty much follow you as you make a turn.
    Newbie trying to figure out how to get into the lifestyle.

      The car pretty much follows you, but,..............if you didn't make the turn quite right you still may be able to correct any last minute "sins" by also watching how the car is tracking. Said differently,.....if you don't always check the vehicle you are pulling, you WILL smash into something.

      This really was one of the more "odd" stops for us. We just wanted to rest a while, and head out early in the morning the next day to our home town! We are usually really hesitant to park on grass. Experience has shown, our 44,000 lb motorhome prefers concrete or asphalt.
