- I review the Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS, a professional Autel scanner in detail. This Autel scanner is one of the affordable good scan tools. I explore its diagnostic and service functions, and conduct a number of tests. This is a solid active scan tool with several functions that challenge many snap-ons. Note that the Autel MP808TS does not support a passthru device as such cannot be used to flash, program or update ECUs. While shopping for this device note that Autel has several other scantools that look like this e.g. MaxiCOM MK808 or MK808TS, MaxiDAS, MaxiSys, MaxiCHECK MX808, MK906BT etc.

Yes. I recall seeing an active test option that turned the fuel pump on or off for the 7th gen accord. Keep in mind that the availability of the function may vary by vehicle.

Yea, something to take into account.
All your reviews about the capabilities of the unit are tops unlike those reviews of so many trying to sell the product, Scan Tool Network for example. And it seems you respond to questions. Doing a BMS, can you actually enter the Ah capacity (92) and the battery type or are you limited to a list of Ah ratings?
Many thanks for the compliment! I am yet to plug this into a car that has a BMS module, so I may not be able to comment on this now. I'll lookout for cars like BMWs that support this.

TPMS means .. Tire Pressure management system
Do you have to pay every year in order for this OBD reader to work ? If you dont pay does that still work ? Do you need to have internet to used it ? If you don't updates does that still work without updates ? Out from the box can you used it without wifi or internet ? Can this scan for Fuel Pressure ? And can this do compression test ?
Very well Done. I just ordered this same unit less the TS. I have a 2008 Range Rover and one of the procedures I hope to be successful with is calibrating the ride height. Do you happen to have some insight or knowledge of this procedure?

I have Collisions mitigation on my dashboard , which Autel can I use to clear it,808 or 906
I've added a response to your other comment. If a collision led to the warning, the SRS components will need to be replaced and crash data cleared before anything can be done to turn it off.

Hello. How many data pids can you graph at the same time? Can you change the data pid graph background to black for night viewing? Thanks in advance.
Hi. You can only merge 3 pids to visualize on the same sceen/graph. That said on the live data window, you can graph as many pids simultaneously and scroll through. I am yet to find any support for dark mode of any sort.

Hello, thanks for your comment. Yes. It handles adaptation and initialization for parts on some models. However, you will have to specify the make, model, year and trim of the car you intend to do this on. I can confirm if you have those details. Also, specify the part you intend to replace.

You mean your VCI doesn't light up when connected to the car?
hello, after stopping all the injectors, what do you mean by reseting the PCM? What data will be lost, does the PCM need to be coded again?
Resetting the PCM is just like how you would do when erasing a check engine light. The reset reactivate the injectors.
When you record live data to play back later, can you play it back in a graph format or do you only get to see the pid values
Not sure if I've tried recording a graph. I'll give it a short over the weekend and revert. For now I can only confirm pid value playback, and so far it's been frame by frame and not an automated video.
Make sure you use San Disk SD cards..They specify you use only San Disk class 10 cards. Ask me how I found out...

So I bought a San Disk Pro class 10 4k... Works fine...
Well, my backup worked well. I think what matters is the specification of the memory card (read/write speed, class etc).
The Lexar I used is class 10 too. But, let me look for and watch the video. Thanks for the info.

Watched the video. To be honest, I don't buy it. I think what matters most is using the right spec as I mentioned earlier. Something tells me they probably tested only with SanDisk and stuck with it. Just like how some car makers recommend Castrol or some other specific brand.

What even drove my skepticism is the fact that I have a genuine 400gb SanDisk that I use for something else. It unmounts itself every now and then. Lol.

Had a MK808TS and never had a problem to program TPMS, changed to a MP808TS and it won't read any TPMS sensor so far, any advice? 😕
It's possible all the sensors you've been trying to read are already dead!
Had that issue with the first car I tried to read TPMS on. All sensors, dead. TPMS batteries last anywhere from 5-10 years depending on a lot of factors. Or are you saying the MK808TS will read a sensor while the MP808TS doesn't (right after)?

It's a good unit, I recommend. Haven't had an issue reading sensors at all, except if the sensor batteries were dead as I noted above. In which case the sensor will need to be replaced. Even if you were to have any problems, Autel support is pretty responsive.
I ran across this once. Somebody programmed all of them with the same ID... I bet $50.00 US they didn't move the other ones 20 feet away.. And it did all four art once..
So maybe they should read the instructions...

Yes. It will disable functions that require access to Autel servers.

I didn't find the 'clock injector' function. I also tried using the function feature to look for this (even with the MaxiSYS Elite) and couldn't find it either. Is there a chance it's known by a different name?

Hi Noor,
This tool can reset ECUs, it can also be used to replace an ECU. However, it will not reprogram(update) and ECU with newer software. It does not have capacity for a pass through device.

In principle, yes. By reprogramming I mean writing the VIN to the new ECU, as well as making the immobilizer work. However, the specific brand, model and year is needed to be sure it works. You can check Autel coverage tool here autel.com/vehicle-coverage/coverage2

Hi dear, i just bought mp808s-ts based on many reviews. But my concern is the cars coverage. I saw many videos show the list of cars company but great wall not their. I checked on autel website for the car coverage, it was there. So, is it cover Chinese car, specifically haval h9 ( great wall ) and changan?
Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS vs Autel MaxiCOM MK906BT? Which is considered suitable for professional use having more features in European cars?
Compared to the MP808TS, the MK906BT has improved hardware & vehicle coverage plus added advanced ECU coding, wireless connection. Its also compatible with Autel's oscilloscope and inspection camera. However, note that the MK906BT does not complete TPMS services, while the MP808TS is a full TPMS tool that can be used to service the TPMS system of most cars.

I'm thinking of why not to give it a 10.... I will take away a point for speed of the device and score it a 9 for now.
Pls which simple diagnostic scan tool would you recommend for a beginner first time car owner, that doesn't want to be scammed by all this so called mechanics when diagnosing
For a beginner, and for the need that you mentioned, a simple code reader with access to manufacturer codes may be all you need. Depending on budget, you can start with this and upgrade over time as your knowledge increases. If budget is not an issue, you could also start with something that has access to other ECU's in the car in addition to the engine. E.g. Transmission, ABS and SRS. Either way, having even a basic code reader is better than nothing even if it's the Bluetooth dongles, just be sure to not leave it permanently plugged in.
Otherwise, you could look out for things like the Autel ms300, ms309 or AL319. There also similar offerings from XTool, Ancel, etc.
My first scanner was an ELM bluetooth scanner dongle. Sold for less than $5. Learnt a lot with it!
Does it read ABS faults?
Yes it does. It's an all-system scanner, meaning it has access to all modules on a car.

At 1:34, the VCI on this device has a couple of LEDs and a micro USB. What is the USB used for?
Updating the firmware of the VCI. This is different from updating the the Autel device itself.
Damn you are good. You actually answer most if not all questions posed. Since I posted that, I also found out that the USB on the VCI is so that you can do a wired connection from the OBD connector to the diagnostic tool (screen). I think that is in case the Bluetooth does not work for whatever reason. Maybe I am wrong.

Is it able to program the abs module?
Thanks for watching. On what car specifically? In general, this doesn't program ECU's. Can be used for ECU replacement for some modules.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I will be replacing an abs module on a Dodge Caravan. I just need to "initialize" it, that is how they call it.
What year is the Caravan? Let me search the function menu
So I just looked up the Dodge Caravan and chose 2012 year. I can confirm "ABS initialization" as well as "Initialize ABS non ESP" are listed as special functions for the MP808TS. Hope this helps. @@DIYAutoworksNG That is good to know. the car is 2009, it is from a client that needs to replace the abs module but I did not buy the scanner yet because I want to make sure it is going to work.
which is better, launch X431 and Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS
There are several variants of the Launch X431 so it depends. Generally, for the variants at a similar price point, they are comparable. I have never used a Launch so may not be in the best position to say. Some people say Autel is more user friendly which was a major determinant when I was making a purchase. The 'TS' in the MP808TS supports more functions.
In all, I feel its down to preference and the cars you plan to use the scanner on. Some of the listed functions for both Launch and Autel are vehicle specific. Hope this helps!

Can you clarify what you mean by bi directional switching?
The tool has bi-directional capabilities and there a ton of bi-directional tests it is able to conduct depending on the car.

If you mean activate the EVAP purge valve, yes in principle. The available functions are usually dependent on the vehicle.

I haven't used the Thinkcar Thinktool (TT) but from my quick review online, the modular design does make it attractive as you can add on more features that the MP808TS does not support through the purchase of modules e.g videoscope, printer etc. It also claims to cover more vehicles. Caveat: out of the box, I did read you will only have softwares for 5 makes free. On face value, the TT does look better, however, I noted it appears to have fewer functions: 16 vs 30 in favor of MP808TS. One also has to look closely at update frequency in making decisions. E.g the MP808TS had 25 service functions, about the time I got it, but though updates, it now has 30+. Not saying it has the better update frequency as I am not sure how often TT releases updates. On updates, Autel is damn good.
In all, it appears as though if you get all the advertised modules of the TT, you would be competing with a higher range Autel scanner not the MP808TS.

All functions (active tests and service resets) of the MP808TS continue to work even if you do not have an active subscription.

You have access to 80+ vehicle makes (about 20,000 cars). You get the first year free. For Autel, it's one single subscription to scan all cars. After the first year you will have to pay annual subscriptions for software updates.
Can you program a new module with the MP808ts ?
Depends on what you mean. It can be used to replace the PCM in many cars, but cannot be used with a J2534 device for ECU programming.

what does the "Odometer" function do???
So I haven't fully explored this function as it is not supported on my vehicle. But I will try to scan a car on which it is supported and update.
So I scanned a 2013 Camry and through the odometer service function I was able to pull up the mileage of the car. I suspect it will be vehicle specific. I will still update if I scan a different vehicle.
Likely to set new odometers
I was able to use the odometer function on a 2016 Accord and it pulled the mileage both from the gauges as well as from the engine. In essence, this tool will detect an odometer rollback! I used just that to catch a dodgy car seller.
And What do you think of BlueDriver
Nice small kit with enhanced support for a number of systems and vehicles. Airbag, Engine, Transmission and ABS support. Also clears TPMS codes. It's just to ensure what you seek for in a scanner is covered for the cars you have in mind.
Can you use this on diesels?
Affirmative. It works on diesels and supports the diesel particulate filter regeneration function

Last time I checked, it cost $300+ for annual updates after the free one year.

I sure would like Autel to reduce the price of the updates. Do you know the cost of equivalent Launch annual updates?
I just checked online and saw the Launch license for 1year for $400. This was for Launch V, Launch V+, Launch X431 Pro Mini, X431 ProS Mini, Diagun IV and 5C.
Seems some form of industry benchmarking going on.
