  • All roads lead home. After spending the past three seasons at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, the New York Islanders will be easing their way back onto Long Island. While their new arena is being built at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, the team will split their home games between the Barclays Center and the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, their home for their first 43 years in the NHL. The New York Islanders are back where they belong, on Long Island.

    I'm the beginning of the video you see seats being pushed in. The man in middle was Kerry. He was a great man and kept that building running on time and correct. He was local 290 carpenter. He recently passed away 9f a heart attack right as he retired. Nassau Coliseum will never be the same respect and rest in peace. I worked along side him putting the boards up the stages for concerts the ring for wrestling arena football. I miss that man he was one of a kind.

      It's not just a team and business that matters, also the people that make it work matter. The humanity behind these things is forgotten many times, it shouldn't be.

      Isles were cap floor for ten years before moving to Barclays Center. They could not compete at Nassau Coliseum. The Isles were doomed at Nassau Coliseum. Barclays gave the Islanders the money to compete and access to the entire region not just a minor league fanbase in Nassau.

      The islanders were screwed over by poloticans. Charles Wang was going to pay for the lighthouse plan which was a plan to make almost a super stadium on li but people couldn't agree and the Coliseum was getting old so they were desperate for a new stadium and Barclays was the the only stadium in New York otherwise they would've landed in Seattle or Kansas.

    this is actually our last time on long island, i hope that we can recreate 1980. barzal and potvin both said it was very disappointing in 2020 and 1979. both in 1980 and 2021 we are playing boston. we have a chance to win it in 5 like we did in boston in the '80s,. LETS MAKE HISTORY 1 MORE TIME AT THE COLI AND MANY MORE AT UBS.

    we have been on a Roller Coaster ride since 1994, first with some kid out of college thinks it would be a good idea to change the Jersey to the Fisherman. I am sure he was a Ranger's fan. Thank god for the Ranger's Fans who chanted "We want Fish sticks" that Gordon Fisherman forced the Islanders to go back to their old Jersey, the ones we had when we won the 4 Stanley Cups in a row. I want to personally thank the Barclay's Center's Management who are probably Ranger's fans, for kicking the Islanders out, I can't wait until we are out of Brooklyn forever and it would be a bad memory of the past. " Let's Go Islanders".

    Theres only two places in the world the new york islanders belong,always have and always will. And thats Nassau or Suffolk County.As for as this Brooklyn nonsense,we have never been a inner city team HECK NO NO AND NO AGAIN. Our whole identity is on being a suburban team representing the peaceful tranquil and beautiful suburbs of nassau and suffolk county.

    I was born in Huntington, though my family moved upstate when I was eight. When the Islanders were great my parents lived in Manhattan, I used to go to the Garden and watch the Islanders play the Rangers proudly wearing my Potvin Jersey. The Ranger fans were always more into hockey that the boring Long Island fans. Islander fans could be seen reading the Wall Street Journal during a game. Hell I was at a Santana concert at Jones Beach and Carlos stopped playing and put his hands up asking, are you people alive?
    Barclays Arena sucks, unfortunately so has the Islanders for way too long, but Long Island fans sucked even when the Islanders were great. Guess I’ll just have to watch videos of the past when the Islanders were one of the greatest teams to ever play any sport.

  • @Quinoa_Tifah

    Two things:
    1. Brooklyn is on Long Island -check google maps or rand & McNally
    2. Attendance and revenue at Nassau Coliseum was insufficient for an NHL team for 25+ seasons in a row.
    Moving back to Nassau Coliseum will result in only failure.

    • @yooowhatupribs
      @yooowhatupribs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 things. Brooklyn is geographically on the island but is considered part of the city as it's one of the five major urban burroghs. The islanders are meant to be a suburban team representing the island, namely Nassau and Suffolk.
      2. Their attendance has NEVER BEEN WORSE THAN AT THE BARCLAYS CENTER. Not to mention their contract pays out a set amount every season regardless of ticket and merchandise sales. The Barclays contract is disgusting but was a last ditch effort to stay in NY. When they're a playoff team they nearly sell out every night

      @@yooowhatupribs homework assignment. Review the following statistics, you will find average attendance at BARCLAYS IS MORE THAN NASSAU COLISEUM. Pay close attention to 99-00 season. Report back by Monday 08Oct18 with your findings.

      @@Quinoa_Tifah cool of you to try and be a dick but if they had half the roster in 99 as they do today it wouldn't even be close. I'm talking comparable teams. The Barclays center is garbage, coliseum already sold more tickets this season and they haven't even played there yet

    • @Quinoa_Tifah
      @Quinoa_Tifah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yooowhatupribs what about the 26 years of bad attendance? 87-14 every year was basically on par with Barclays. Heres the key point for everyone. Brooklyn provide access to a broad , deep and growing fanbase. Nassau is a shrinking, declining minor leaugue suburb that has proved over a 27 year old period that it cannot support big league sports.

    • @yooowhatupribs

      @@Quinoa_Tifah You're way off. Sorry, not even close. Barclays center is in a residential area and can barely be accessed by car. Islander fans are mostly Nassau and Suffolk residents that commute by car. It's the worst spot. Just wait til January when you can't get coliseum tickets without stubhub and we'll talk
