Kimimaro and hakus backstory is similar, yet it's different too. It's amazing how kishimoto made kimimaro meet haku at that time and him say the line .
I didn't see anyone else say it, but kankuro and temari didn't really get stronger. They just had to hold back in the Chunin exams. They were already either chunin or jonin when they went. Shino and Lee are really just that strong that they were already at that level. Gaara is already supposed to be high jonin level at least
