I just started doing hurdles this past track season in my junior year and the first thing the coach said was that no matter what happened, if you finished the race, it was something to be proud of.
Plus the red shirt girl was leading by quite a bit before she muffed one. Once your timing gets thrown off it's hard to recover. I'm sure she has won plenty of times that she hit every mark.

Hurdles are different then music. You can fall but if you knock down a hurdle you get disqualified, no time. And in music you don’t “roll with mistakes” unless you’re talking about improv, that’s not a mistake. Don’t practice until you can play it right, practice until you can’t play it wrong.

I could hear my team mates laughing for the first several hurdles and then there was silence, until I heard the coach yell at me from the starting line. I finished last by nearly 30 seconds. When I'd jogged back to him, coach had me stand on his right and face my team mates, all of them still smirking and laughing. Coach said "I'm proud of you for finishing the race." Turning to glare at my team mates, coach said "he has more guts than the rest of you combined ...". When he'd dismissed the team to the other side of the field for the 60 yard high hurdles, he sent me to the locker room to be bandaged up and said "I want you to try out for the shot put". I never medaled or placed in any event; coaches praise was my only reward and I still treasure it.
I remember at a hurdle race one of our best hurdlers was tripped mid- fall and broke her arm. Adrenaline coursing through her, she somehow finished the race. It was very impressive. She even got third! I recently quite hurdles to purse pole vaulting, but my respect has always been held high for this girl. Amazing job, Aubrey 💗

When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️

Don’t worry! I had my first track meet just yesterday and I basically jogged the thing. I was so unprepared. today I had my second and ‘jumped’ over the hurdle,landed to hard and ended up on the ground. 😂 it’s not that I can’t jump them it’s That I gather and my form.
I’m a distance runner in my school’s track team, and I know I could never do this lol. I like watching them practice while I cool down, very entertaining lmao!

One of my teammates was doing the 300 meter hurdle race and tripped on the first hurdle, so he picked it back up and restarted while everybody else just kept going.
The girl in red was doing well but actually ran too fast and got too close to the hurdles and then she got a bit tired. Give her some good coaching and a lot of practice and she could do well for the complete race.

@@wyatt2918 for a cool down probably just 1/2-1 miles for after a hard workout. After a meet we do a 4-5 mile run normally.
