From my experience, HBCU'S and smaller PWI's seem to know you as a student and not as a social security number. But at my HBCU'S, teachers (African-American) as a whole want you to succeed and the teachers seem more concerned about you. I came across a couple Caucasian teachers at the smaller PWI'S that I attended for who were willing to make sure that the students grasps the material. But overall, I love my HBCU'S due to the culture and purpose that surrounds the school.
I attended stillman 🐯(HBCU) 5 miles from university of Alabama (#rolltide) and spent a lot of time on both campuses. I may be a bama fan BUT the racism on campus&in the city in general is strong like tx a&m . My hbcu had other races &ppl from all over the world. It was inclusive, no one was treated different. I transferred to UAB & it is very diverse& I loved everything about it. I'm now in Texas. I hope that my kids attend an HBCU BUT I am not confident that they will. It's so much about an hbcu that I wish all races could experience. If even for a day it would dispel a lot of stereotypes & misconceptions.
Great video. I started out at a predominately black school. After a year, I transferred to a PWI and received the best education, in addition to a great deal of help from my fellow classmates. We all wanted each other to succeed. It was challenging at first, but I learned so much and I’ve been able to come across so many opportunities. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 💕
My husband did say that tx a&m fans and stadium beat bama & anywhere he's been. in the sense of being loud , friendly to everyone during tailgating( including us bama fans), and that you could feel the stadium rock from the fans.
We had the no stepping on the grass rule at SC 🤣 we were taught to dress nice everyday. Some didn't dress up but there definitely wasn't any sweat pants pjs etc . I loved that.
Great video. I just wish that the PVU sis would have used this platform to clear up the narrative that classes at HBCUs are easy and that you don’t have to do much work in order to pass. This is something that I frequently hear from black people who attended PWI’s and it is far from the truth. Now granted, she may be speaking from her own experience from taking a few classes at PV. However, I am also an HBCU graduate and my professors definitely challenged us and did not cut us any slack because they knew that no one would do such for us in the real world. We had to earn every grade that we received. #TXSUAlumni
Girl I didn't know Texas A&m college station was a racist school but I'm SO duck off from Texas A&m commerce that I don't know lol. Y'all school class room is so big and I like one o one with professor. I was cracking up when you said "the bigger the class the harder it is to cheat" and I hate professors that give you hell in their class. My school is around 9000 students too and I love the school size and Nzube you have a lot of places to eat in your school compare to me😂
Hello! Yes lol it is very big. Texas A&M can be racist depending on who you encounter. You can kind of tell almost automatically when you are around certain individuals. However for the most part, everyone is okay! -Savage B. 💕
Texas A&M commerce is a good school. I dont really know much about it but what others tell me. I would say to research the school before attending and try to schedule a tour of the campus. One for prospective students and then possibly reach out to an idividual and see if maybe they can kind of tell you the pros and the cons about the institution. I know there student body is diverse but that's about it. 🙃
Please don't have these people thinking HBCUs are easy. I'm a PV grad and school was not easy. This coming from a Texas scholar who graduated in the top 24% of my class at a huge white school with scholarship opportunities at bot UT and A&M. It's still college, we pullled all-nighters, had difficult and easy professors, etc. An HBCU is a historically black college or university. Lamar is not an HBCU. Having a large black population doesn't make a school an HBCU. This was a cute idea for a video!
Curly Actress thank you!!!! I was so upset listening to these “stereotypes.” I’m a Bio major at PV, & no grades are just given. Also our African-American Bio majors are succeeding over A&Ms African-American Bio majors bc at PV we’re given way more opportunities. Either way we’re all getting a degree, just don’t talk down on my institution 😂
So, school comes easy for me and my school is easy for me I also change my major from bio to business. Bio was too difficult for me and I wanted to take a more suitable route. These are all things I spoke about in the video!!! Never said anything about HBCUs being easy
I just looked up Lamar University it is not classified as a HBCU. It began as a PWI and might have transitioned into a college with large black student body but it is not an HBCU that being said my son attends PV imma roll with the HBCU especially coming from Cali.
Yeah i attended both school. Lamar is a PWI with a medium-size minority student body. However, it is not a HBCU. If i were to start all over again I would have just began at #PVAMU
and in the end that means what!? You get a job and get discriminated against and underpaid than your counterparts like everyone else. Join the club, quit promoting the ice is colder
Victoria Roberts in the end that means you’re better suited for the field you want to enter. there’s no plus or upside to having less resources, HBCU students and avid supporters just like to make excuses for the poor environment some of them are in,
Liked the video but let’s keep it real. HBCU’s are not easier. I am a graduate of an HBCU. We work super hard for that degree. All African Americans should experience it even if it is just one year. You learn about yourself and you end up being very close and like family because they are smaller and everyone knows everyone. Professors know you and your not a number. Regardless HBCU’s rock and I will never regret my decision.
This video was good and informative! Y’all are both gorgeous💕and you should make an in depth video on what it’s like to be a biology major and the type of things you do in class( I’m planning on majoring in biology and I’m just curious tbh I mean no pressure to make a video or anything just a suggestion 😊)
Of course! Thank you for your comment. I was planning on creating a video about my major and more specifics about me so stay tuned! There are definitely a lot of majors to choose from but if I were to go through my freshman year again I probably would have chosen to major in Biomedical Science. You want to look at the upper level electives and see which courses you will be taken towards your major course work and if you are planning to go to Medical school (in texas) your allowed to major in anything just make sure you excel in the prerequisites!
I need you to go google search "PVAMU Alumni" before you drag me and my #HBCU. I'll give you few names to start with; Kase Lukman Lawal(Billionare), Mr. T(Actor), and Loni Love(Comedian). Thank you!!!

ChimeInWithSochima you don’t even need to go to school to be an actor. that’s a stroke of luck compared to the many people who aspire to be an actor. there’s little real educational topics that go into acting, so that’s not s very strong argument as to why your “hbcu” is very successful.
You have no clue what you're talking about. I work at a top 50 corporation and my Sr Director in my dept is a black man who is an HBCU alum. I went to an HBCU and all of my employees who report to me went to PWIs. At the of the day, recruiters at major corporations don't care about where you went as much as you think. What matters more is how well you interview, your network and the work resume you build.
Can we just take moment to appreciate the makeup looks or both of them.
I currently go to a Pwi and I am so jealous of HBCU students. I actually made a video about being black at a PWI.
ipromise I know what you mean I attend a PWI in Florida.
Just transfer
Transfer them lol

At a point I started to count how many black people were in each of my classes at TAMU....and I had no black professors
Take sociology with Dr. May. He'll get you straight. Good man, great mentor.
I felt the same until I was exposed to more African American professors who were teaching black psychology/ Africana Studies.
