      Jasmine Thomas don't mean a damn thing about black people coming from every where....same color skin don't make us kin....coloreds(as you call them "black")are the 1st ones trying to drag one another down,both male&female so that statement is worthless...has no value until coloreds treat one another the same way they look up to their white superiors.

    I went to a PWI, and now I wish I would’ve gone to an HBCU. White is not always right....the Ivys are probably worth it. The list of amazing grads from HBCUs such as Howard, Spelman, and Morehouse are long and plentiful. Looking back, as a Psychology major/ Spanish minor, I would go to college where I was supported (not just constantly having to prove myself and go at it pretty much alone), go to the school that offered me the most money, and NOT have majored in anything humanities/social science -related! Lol Great review. Thanks for sharing! :) And yes our dorms and dining hall were amazing at my PWI :)

    I applaude both of your takes on your experiences. I received my BS at a PWI. The experience was great, but believe me, the black pop was small and we stuck together. The Greek network was a good help, but I was active in dance and other clubs first so I had friends of all kind. I received my JD from an HBCU, and that experience was different and I felt I had to adapt, it was "lit", but I didn't get to share in that experience bc my focus was different. I would have been lost at my HBCU if I had went there first. The amenities, I must admit, were better at my PWI. I had to prepare my son as he chose an HBCU. I told him to be ready, because your lifestyle will be different. The dorms and facilities were horrible, but the education is just as good...but he wants to transfer one month into his first year. CULTURE SHOCK!

    She is ignorant. Most African Americans spent the majority of their studies at PWI's and have had enough of "the real world". FYI, the real world is 2/3 people of color. I went to Cal and by the time I was a Sophomore majoring in Biology, I was ready to transfer because of the negative stigmas associated with being an African American male on campus. No, I'm not an athlete. No, I didn't get in because of Affirmative Action etc. The BSU was a grouping of black kids trying hard to keep it together and it felt like us against them all the time. The meetings and events seemed forced and almost unnatural. It often felt militant. At Howard, their was no dominant opposition or grand campus issues we had to fight against. Mettings (there was no need for a BSU so Frat. , social , community, healthcare, iintramural clubs were relaxed and productive and always fun. I didn't transfer after Soph. year, but finished my DDS at HUCD, and the experience was one of the best if not the best experience of my life! Worked hard and partied with my peers, some of which were genius level individuals. It felt like the home most of us never had and only witnessed on TV with the Cosby show. Most instructors felt like uncles, aunties, and/or nurturing parents. I finally got to feel what white kids feel when they hang out with professors and not only receive information on a course that one is taking but a meaningful nugget of wisdom that is always on point and could possibly change the course of one's life path. The type of information that is withheld in a PWI, or is geared towards white kids. It was great to feel as if a professor, counselor, receptionist, or staff see you as family. Often times seeing themselves in you many years prior and having the perfect formula and advice on how to be successful either through personal success or shortcomings.

      Ignorant? I'm sharing my personal experience at UCLA, how is that ignorant? Second, it sounds like you had an amazing experience at Howard! Its unfortunate, that you didn't feel the same at Cal. My personal experience at UCLA has been great and our Afrikan Student Union and African American Studies department feels like home to me. This is MY personal experience. I'm sharing this to help others who are curious about the two schools. Just because we have had two different experiences at PWI's doesn't make either one of us ignorant. Sadly, in "the real world" there is discrimination, white supremacy, and inequality despite the world being 2/3 people of color. I wish the best to you and I hope everything works out for you! Ask questions or try to understand somebody's point of view before coming for me in my comments, thanks😊

    As a young black woman consider PWIs (Salisbury, Old Dominion, Seton Hall, Albright) and HBCUs (Howard, Spelman, Hampton, Clark, Morgan) I found this video disappointing. Even though I don't attend a HBCU yet, I feel as if she believes a lot of negative stereotypes about HBCUs. Idk.

    I'm currently at a PWI and I'm deciding between transferring to a neighboring HBCU, the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University for Meteorology, or UNC Charlotte. Both are amazing schools, but my fear is that I'm not going to fit in at an HBCU (personality clashes). How did you manage to fit in at an HBCU?

    This video is such a disappointment. Rather than debate the differences between an HBCU and PWI, I would have appreciated you all talking about why you chose the University you chose and the impact it has had on your leadership development. I am a proud HBCU alum of Virginia State University who is prideful of my Florida State University Master's Degree and University of Southern California Doctoral degree...all of these experiences have shaped my life, but I would never disrespect any of the schools. Please do more research and don't fall into the trap of downing HBCU's. You both are too intelligent to take part in this type of slander.

      I don't understand why you're disappointed but thank you for your feedback. My brother and I were giving recollections of our personal experiences at each school. DonnaMac personally i wouldn’t goto an hbcu cause i wouldn’t want to be around a bunch of other black people. I know that sounds bad but it’s not meant that way I promise I’d rather goto a school that’s a PWI just for the more broad range of ethnic diversity and cultures. I’m not downplaying that hbcus have ethnics diversity. But that’s only like majority black wise, I wanna go where the diversity is more than just black wise. This sounds stupid but I want to deal with the ignorance other people have about blacks so I can correct them and put them in their place. I’m planning to attend UCLA and I’m prepared to deal with cultural ignorance

      Great question.
      I graduated in 2019 and currently run my own business as a full time content creator and social media manger. UCLA connected me to phenomenal individuals, students, alumni, and faculty who have supported me along my journey. Overall, I'm grateful for my experience at UCLA and believe it has been beneficial in a number of ways.
      My brother graduated Howard in 2018 and earned a Master's from the University of Chicago in 2020. He is currently in a dual PhD program at the University of Michigan studying economics and policy. He's received several great internships and scholarship opportunities. His experience at Howard, as well as classmates and professors have supported him along his professional journey.
      We have both had great experiences, as well as bittersweet moments at our institutions. We both give glory to God for all the success and amazing opportunities we've had throughout our life. Would love to make an update video with my brother to go into further detail soon.

      You still see a SAP score gap between Asians and Hispanics, for example. The only explanation is affirmative action.

    • @AA-hs4rk
      @AA-hs4rk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ashok Hegde no stupid, the only explanation is that UCLA is a public university. In other words, it has a commitment to all students in the state. At the end of the day, at every public university you will have good and bad instate students. If you really think affirmative action is there, why wouldn’t they just accept more black students to up diversity?

    • @friedkake1876

    • @friedkake1876
      @friedkake1876 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashok Hegde have you ever tried to put together that some black students just don’t want to goto UCLA ? They probably get admitted but choose not to go you never know. They could have more black people if more black students chose to go. They have a person over African American recruitment but most likely because they want more black students and more diversity. UCLA has been actively trying to get more black students but they get turned down a lot of the time

    Howard University build Executive Black men for the Corporate world; or even branch him into his own business. A PWI would make a servant black man for the Corporate world. HBCU's is up and personal, and with hands on approach to the game. PWI's is like the crabs in the bucket for young, black males. the ONLY BENEFIT THEY GET is the quality of the school's name. I've seen it numerous of times. Look at the image of P.Diddy for example. And compare that to black men who made THEIR OWN money graduating from a PWI.
