I haven't read through Eyeshield again in a few years but I think it's been long enough that it'll feel fresh again. Definitely gotta break my volumes out for a reread.

It's difficult to hear the voices over the Naruto music. Gash Bell best manga

Thanks for the feedback! Agreed though, Gash Bell is our GOAT.

Unbelievable, I almost think this video must be rage bait because how on EARTH is the Cell Games not on this list?? The disrespect is unreal - they either intentionally left it off because they have some bias against Hercule, or they don't know good anime PERIODT

We respect the opinions of all of our fans, even when they spout complete and utter nonsense like yourself. GOOD DAY MY FRIEND.

As a huge Gash Bell fan, I can tolerate the placement here. I think it's very arguable the best manga here, but "as a tournament" I'm not sure it really hits on the things you'd want from that framing.

Thanks for checking out the video! Gash Bell is probably my favorite series of all time and in just about every other ranking we do on this channel it ends up number one. But there's so many other great things happening throughout the series that aren't quite related to the tournament aspects.

@@SCLASSAnime Oh for sure, I know you guys give Gash plenty of love in your other videos!

How could we not, it's so good! Are you reading the Gash Bell sequel?

@@SCLASSAnime Yep, I read the Gash Cafes, Gaiden chapter, and Kazenban special book too! Pretty much the only things I haven't looked at are some of the character guide books, and the 4koma and YADAKA Suzuo spinoffs. (and the second movie from the anime and some obscure side material from it: I'm not nearly as invested in the anime as I am the manga, aside from its music).
A far as the sequel specifically, my impressions on it have actually sorta cooled over time. I was all in during the first few chapters (I could literally hear "Ore Tachi wa makenai zo!" from the anime's soundtrack playing in my head during the scene in ch1 when Zellie stood up to Waig; shout outs to XZatchBellGamerX, who is translating the sequel and doing the new makai translation/scans of the original series, for actually doing an animated edit of that scene's manga panels to the track!) but I feel it's really settled into a pretty episodic/villain of the week formula and I feel like it's relying too much on having big returning moments for older characters.
Mind you, obviously the original manga was also episodic early on and it's hard to tell what the actual story format will be since it's so early, so maybe it won't be a problem in the long term... i'm even more worried about the reliance on the older cast though since for the most part, they all just feel like themselves without them having changes over the timeskip at all: A big part of what made the original manga good was the development and relationship between different characters over time, and while it's fun to see Folgore and Kanchome back doing Folgore and Kanchome things, it's also not bringing anything new to the table or changing up the status quo.
I wish there was more of a focus on newer characters like Zellie where the older cast was more in a mentorship role, and returned at a slower pace spread out across the series, or at least that how characters have changed over the timeskip was a bigger deal (and we had more slice of life/downjtime or worldbuilding chapters to show that off: Like the Ashuron chapter was great, but really, we didn't even get a chapter for Tio and Megumi to catch up with each other? ) so their interactions with each other could feel fresh and different. Like maybe a situation where now that Gash has matured and has experience as king, he actually disagrees with how Kiyomaro wants to plan something and the two have to have a debate with how to proceed.
None of this is to say I think the sequel is bad, it's still good; and most other readers seem to be loving it, but right now it's just "good" or "great" rather then "Amazing".... hopefully that changes as it progresses and/or I can look back on it as a whole rather then as a weekly thing!

Definitely agree on your points on the new series! We were actually just discussing today that it feels like there hasn't been enough character interactions. As much as I love the battles of the original series, what made them so fun was how invested we were in the characters.
It just feels like two years into this, we should have Kanchome, Gash, Tio and Umagon together working towards something. I feel like Gash Bell is at its best when all of the characters are bouncing off of each other. Heck, we still haven't even seen Umagon.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot that I've loved. Seeing Big Boing again had me absolutely dyeing. But there is still a bit to be desired and I don't really feel anything with these villains.

Shouldn't even have had sports manga/anime here IMO.
Fighting shonens' tournament arc are a framing for allowing multiple fights in quick succession.
In sports, that kinda already happens even without a tournament, the only difference between being in a tournament and not is that the future opponents are limited and thus somewhat predictable, and maybe the locations for resting in between matches change.
Plus, in the case of high school sports manga, if the entirety, or most, of the plot happens within a tournament, is there really a point in calling it a "tournament arc"?
For example, HnI's Class A Tournament could've been just normal scheduled fights culminating in fighting the N°1 ranked fighter and it'd have been largely the same.

I tend to agree with your points. If you were able to watch the video, we discussed that sports series kind of didn't fit the same vibe and in some cases, especially Eyeshield 21, the "tournament" essentially takes up the entire series. Thanks for the comment!
